Tips on getting into porn in 2022 from me

I thought I would do a few tips for people.

Feel free to add your own, or disagree with me.

But these are my views/thoughts.

These are for both those wanting to start a porn site and for affiliates.

1. If you are going to start a porn site, get a decent.com.

You want a dent brandable .com. It makes a huge difference.

I have a 4 letter .com that converts with ease. A lot of that I suspect is just because its a short brandable domain name.

This is the first thing your customer will see. Its a bit like having a shop. If the shop is in a bad area and looks dreadful, it will not do as well as a shop in a good area that looks wonderful.

I see people often with rubbish domain names, such as goshwowbabesofearthandspaceandsexy.net (I made that up) wonder why they are not getting sales.

I got lots of rubbish domain names but also a few decent ones, and I see a huge difference in results.

2. Content - part 1

If you are going to start a porn site, you need a decent amount of content on it, otherwise people will not join. And regular updates.

You can opt for a clip store site. You may want to consider this is your films a big budget, and you may be only doing a film every few months.

3. Content - part 2

Make it decent.

Years ago you could have got away with things not great. Lets face it equipment was expensive and you may have only been in a position to buy ok gear.

Today even the best equipment is not expensive (OK, it is - but you can still get pro gear cheap).

No excuse these days for poor lighting, poor sound, poor image.

If your plan is to shoot sexy babes and you having sex with them, and think you will make a fortune that will pay for your sex life (yes, we are not stupid, we know some are looking to do porn just to get sex), then it is likly you will fail.

4. Promote other sites

Before you start a porn site, I would promote other sites.

This will give you an idea what coverts and will teach you how to promote your site as well as build up traffic.

Set up a blog or something.

This should bring in income too until your own site takes off.

5. Get social media accounts

Join every social media you can and try to keep the same username for each.

Even if you do not think you will use a social media, join regardless.

It is also worth getting backup accounts too.

For example have more than one twitter account.

6. Does google matter?

I see people still worry about getting a top place in google.

My personal view is it no longer matters.

By this, I see people worry over getting 50 or so hits from google. Yet a decent tweet on twitter reposted a few times can get you 100k of views in a day.

7. Stand out

If you plan on doing a porn site, make it different.

Think of something new.

8. Expect to make mistakes

One of the BIG reasons I see people fail is they think they know t all.

I see people who get things wrong from the start, but carry on regardless, even when people point out they are doing things wrong. I have seen people with 40 years of experience in porn (before the internet they were doing porn) who try to help new people out with free advice, only for the new person turn around and say they know it all and you will see...

Often (always) they fail.

9. Budget

Its very very very very easy to pee money up the wall.

This applies to any type of business.

Spend with wisdom.

I have had models tell me how others have taken them out to dinner, and so on.

Not going to happen with me.

I did buy one model a packet of chips, but that was someone I shot many many times.

Its also easy to buy gear that you do not need. Put it this way, you could buy a $50000k vid camera and add on thousands of extras, but if your going to shoot something for a porn site, and your shooting outside where it could get smashed up, you may be better off with a $1000 camera that is easy to carry and small and will still give a decent result.

But on the flip side, don't buy too cheap as you will only regret later and end up buying better gear.

10. Booking models

Before the shoot, make sure you finalise everything in an email or something.

Include time/date.

How long the shoot will last.

What the shoot will be, such as solo, b/g, toy and so on.

Make it clear if its pics and or vid.

What the pay is.

That you need ID.

And so on.

This can save problems in case the model is not wanting to do vid, or whatever. at least it saves you having problems later.

This is also worth printing out to take with you to a shoot.

I also ask for the models mobile and will phone or text before I set off to the shoot, in case she is ill, or is running late or whatever.

11. Have an affiliate system

If you run a pay site, it is worth considering having an affiliate system.

CCBILL has it built in.

I would recommend offering 50%.Now make sure you have things in place for the affiliate.

I have seen many sites that do not even post what affiliate link to use.

Personally I would provide, a affiliate link, a few banners, a few pics and possibly a few mp4 clips.

I am also still a fan on fhg's, and providing them hosted as well as a zip file.

12. Do your homework

If you spend time researching sites, you will do a better job.

This is also why I recommend doing 4. Promoting sites.

Many I believe thing doing porn is easy. Go out, and buy a camera, book a model, do a shoot, upload, and get sales, then quit.

You could do this a few years ago, but these days you need to learn as much as you can before you start.

XXX. Have an affiliate system

Get a good host (dedicated server) if you are going to host your vids.

My first hosts sucked when I first started. Often the server would crash, and it would be hours and in one case a week until hey sorted it out.

If your doing 4k films, then the files are huge, So you need to get a server with a lot of storage, and speed.

14. After everything, your sales suck

Lets say your site is live, you have a LOT of content, you have a decent amount of traffic, but your sales are always low.

If this is the case, you need to work out what is wrong.

What you get though with some is the 'if only' excuses. For example, if only a whale promoted them. They would be getting sales if only the correct type of people would visit the site. Or some other if only excuse.

15. Rebills are very important

While it is important to get customers, it is also VERY important to keep them happy and get rebills.

If most people join but only stay a month, then your loosing a LOT of money, and they may never re-join.

So regular updates and different content is important.

I came across one solo model, who seemed to have ALL the vids of her sat in the same chair with the same toy. I suspect once you had seen one of her vids, you would not bother to see all the rest.

So you may have 1000 vids on your site, but if they are just variations of all the other vids on your site, I suspect your rebills will be low.

16. Show updates, what is coming, and models on your site

If you do not have the skills to do this, then do not worry.

But if you can set this up on your site, in my mind its worth doing.

Show updates with dates, as it shows your site is still active. Some sites have the last content shot in 2005 and nothing new.

Also show what is coming up. This will keep members longer and people may join for a model ot yet on your site but who is coming soon.

If you have lots of models, it is nice to see who they are.

Some people will join to see a single model and not be interested in any of the others on the site.

17. Don't give your content away for free

Some will disagree with me, and this is up to you.

But I have seen solo models upload full films to porn sites. These may get 100k views, and probably some sales. The question is, how many people would have joined the site, but seen the model for free and did not join.

I know years ago I was going to join a solo site, but found a vid she posted free on a tube site. I had no reason to join her site after that.

18. Consider non porn too

If you have all the gear to shoot porn *camera and lights and so on). then consider in between shoots doing something non porn, such as a youtube vids.

Do it on something your interested in.

Even if you do not make money doing this, it may give you practice in film making and film editing, that you can bring to your porn shoots, and so improve your skills and the result should be better shoots.

19. Post updates on this site

Do a thread on https://gfy.com/announcements/ with your site updates, and a pic or two from your latest shoots. This is great for affiliates.

20. Don't quit

I have seen people quit because they expected to be millionaires day one.

It is not going to be easy.

But the ones that stick it out, are the ones who are more likely to make it.

I have seen a few give up, who, were shooting great content, and it was a shame.

but that doesn't matter though, as the intention was to get sex (for a cheaper price than with a hooker, and with a hotter girl) and film it, rather than open a real site? you still get to have the sex, plus the ability to re watch it for a wank for the rest of your life...

priceless.

I strongly disagree that search engine traffic doesn't matter.
And if you build your sites with seo in mind from the beginning it's almost no extra work.
It is incredibly stupid to neglect it, and there's no reason not to do both

Some very good advices and I agree to most of your point.

17. Don't give your content away for free

I am not agree on this one. Giving some contents for free on tubes can help you in to more exposure of your site. You can edit a full version and strip down to a shorter one put of advert on the video.

18. email your old members

Put in place a emailing system to your old members with a discount code, it is easier to bring back old members with discount that trying to get new one. Just make a test with Netflix, close your account, you will receive 100 of emails to ask you to join again.

19. Use more than one Billers

Don't rely on only one biller. Having a cascading in case one is down you can still process. Offer alternative payments it bring extra sales for free.

20. Interact with your customers

Having a blog, polls, backstage, Interview so your members feel that can involved into in the site.

Yes

Personally I would edit in a way to show very little.

Yeah 50 hits, or 500, 500K, 5 million... highly targeted hits generating daily passive income, month after month, year after year... who would ever want that?

Accept crypto and other alternative forms of payments.

Regardless of the naysayers, crypto currency is here to stay, and visa/mc are becoming more and more anti-porn.

You do realize you are commenting to a topic started by DVTimes, right?

But yeah, why not. Easy to integrate these days.
Even if you don't believe the value will go up in the longrun, you can still automatically trade it to some stable coin, if desired.

Agreed. The sooner they adopt Bitcoin for payments the sooner they'll be breaking free from the chains of 3rd parties. Permissionless transactions that are instant and free, it is going to be better and it is coming
