Ibill- Why the bad rep ??

I have been in this business sincee 1998-99 and have used Ibill for a lot of things. I´m relatively new to GFY and before I started checking in here in on a daily basis, I have never heard a bad thing about IBill.

But apparently, there´s a lot of webmaster here that downright hates IBill. Why is that ??

I have never had any problems with tehm and they have always been reliable IMO.

Please post you stories, i´m curious

It might be because there is all sorts of news about how the corporation is hemmhoragin money. Or maybe something about non-payment of Web900 sales at one point? Frankly, everyone but CCBill (and maybe Epoch) just look incredibly shaky to me. Way to shaky to have allof my revenue going through any of them.

I think there is less of a chance of them going under than the processors everyone is in love with.

IBill are probably top in line for a shakeup/reorganization/merger .. their parent company ain't gonna tolerate the current crap with US Visa and the IBill amazing inefficency. They were very good in earlier years, but the scenario has change a lot.

I'd sure hate to have bought that company for many millions and, within months had depreciate to what it is today...

I believe Ibill isn't the best company due to the fact that their service fees are not the cheapest. I've recently signed up with Pro Defence Billing. And found tehm a lot more reasonable - For Example; Set up fees $0, Reserve 7.5%, Processing Fees 10 % and Visa Fees $0............

Most of the complaints that ive read on GFY arise from their slow/nonexistent support.

Yep, called them many times. Support answers on the third or fourth ring, and took care of my problem within a few hours. Today they answred on the second ring.

I run two sites through them and for the most part they are fine, always have been.

I still cannot believe people are still asking this question. Let me give you an abbreviated list based on 5 years of using Ibill and our personal experiences with them.

1. lack of customer and technical support. ( recently we contacted their Fraud department 5/3/03 via phone and e-mail, still no reply as of today 5/30/03 )
2. Constant and persistent CMI problems today and yesterday are typical examples, as of 5 minutes ago the CMI is still down.
3. Sign-up pages incompatible with Netscape Browser's 7 and above.
4. Check2 system. ( the latest greatest online check method ) dose not work with Netscape.
5.Your personal account information shared with other account holders.
6. Non payment of web 900 money from last year.
7. Ibill staff unaware of current Visa situation ( example verified by Visa is not going to be available to Adult accounts ) ( Epoch reported this today, Epoch are on the ball, Ibill is not ).
8. I would personally spend 8- 10 hours a week on the phone with my Ibill rep sorting out problems with IBILL

This is the short list but its enough for us to drop them and Use Epoch and CCbill in their place.

Let me add to that list:

9. They charged people the $750 VISA fee even though they cancelled or stated they did not want to use VISA anymore.
10. They double charged the $750 VISA fee for many webmasters and some are still waiting for the refund.
11. They stop paying webmasters as soon as you have new signups and just want their Holdback .
12. They stopped paying celeb webmasters without any notification but still kept charging their customers and rebilled them.
13. They lie when you call them.
14. They break contracts without any notification.
15. They are stealing webmasters money.

From my experience with using them for the past 6 years (although for the past year only as a backup incase our own processing system lost its merchant accounts or such), they are TERRIBLE.

Here are some points, I'm sure most were already said but I'll say them again =)

1 - They steal money. Their stats never coincide 100% with our own system and whenever we've confronted them with evidence, they get nervous and start to stutter heh and blame it on bugs and promise ot fix the amounts. I'm sure many smaller merchants don't even notice this if they don't have stats/tracking on their side.

2 - Their CMI, as said above, is down very very often (including at this moment)

3 - Their customer service is terrible. Many hours are wasted trying to get ahold of the right people there whenever problems arise (which is quite often)

4 - Despite all these problems, they charge extremely high rates compared to their competition.

There are many other small factors as to why so many people hate them (even if they still use them), but I'm already bored of this topic so I won't go on ;p

But on a side note, I got a measure of revenge by ramming the go-kart of their VP into a wall at last year's party at CybernetExpo in Montreal =)...I got disqualified but it was damns ure worth it heh

Chris makes this point very well in this thread and is willing ," again" to do something on our behalf.

To be serious for a moment i believe in promoting any company or individual that i work with , who dose a good job for me. Equally i will post my views about companies that don't . The truth is that the only company i have ever had to be negative about is Ibill because i have had a long and frustrating experience with them, they don't want to listen to suggestions they think they no what's best for Adult sites they process for, and they have and will reap the rewards of their policy's.
Because i have had such a seriously bad relationship with Ibill dose not mean everyone will have the same experience, i don't want to see them go down or even leave the adult business, but unless they start to pay attention to the needs of Adult webmasters their clients and the industry as a whole then i don't see a bright future for them .

I used them for nearly 4 years with very little problems aside from those already mentioned. Therein lies the key - when you DO have a problem, they basically tell you to go suck a lemon. Most problems I can deal with so long as I'm being paid on time, but iBill's customer service is among the worse I've ever dealt with in any sector of the adult or non-adult industry.

I have got to tell you I dont have most of the problems with them you are talking about. CMI works most of the time for me, they pay on time all time. Customer service is weak but if you are having that kind of problem call up the food chain and it will get handled quickly. Big companies have pros and cons the con is they dont do fizzy customer service, the pro is they have more money reserves than the others. I also think them charging more and charging for the CB's is a good thing for survival. I am sorry, you cant do things for cheap and survive in the fine driven world of CC processing.

Try waking up one day and finding out 50% of your rebills and income are gone, Ibill went down the drain 2 years ago.

From 97 till mid 01 IBILL was the best hands down.

What happened ? I dont think they just decided to pick you out of the bunch to fuck with you. What type of sites do you run? How high is your charge backs? Remember money lost for you is also money lost for them.

What happened is anyone's guess. This was not just me, this was across the board with plenty of other webmasters, if you a dig
back in the archives here, there a few threads about it.

Sites i ran were general hardcore, fetish, teen, and watersports sites.

I owned and operated 32 paysites along with an affiliate program, my charge backs were normal. I was a premium account
there, doing a substantial amount of $$$ with them.

This was 2 + years back, IBILL seems to be solid now under new management, years ago it was the wild wild west running
rampant at ibill. The mass exodus occurred and ibill was no longer number 1.

I dont think they have ever been the best, maybe one of the first to provide online billing solutions for adult sites and 6-7 years ago they may have been the biggest , but the best i don't think that was true.

Don't fool yourselves thinking Ibill is not the biggest of the bunch. They still are but quickly dimnishing. Ibill has failed again and again.

I do not know why anyone would still use them now when there are great solid companies out there such as Netbilling, CCbill, Jettis, Glo-bill, and others.

Tell me why?

Ibill has paid us On Time Every Time over the past 4 years . .

They have the Best revshare system of all the processors.

They are the Bigest and most unlikely to fail . .

They are a public company.

We will be staying just where we are - with Ibill !!

LOL - you are blind.

Ibill sucks ass. Look at all of the crap they have caused and their shitty customer service, downtime, and staff turnover. They will fail, just like WSB. I give them 1 year nefore Intercept say "No more". It looks like Igallery all over again. Go public & get out of adult internet.

p.s. Have you gotten your WEB900 money?

Epoch cares thats all that it comes down to.

When there arises a problem my rep calls me i dont even have to pickup the phone. When i was getting setup he called me 5 times a day and was so helpful it was annoying. When i speak with support they sit patiently on the line and tend to my needs large or small.

I send emails to support i have a reply within a few hours max. When i need somthing i know i can call and speak to a person and not a monkey. This is great i dont have to demand to speak with a supervisor when i cant get answers because everyone knows their job.

Most importantly Epoch has much lower rates and offers far superior service.
----

With shitbill i could write a book and im still wating now over 3 months later for my sales rep to return my phone calls. They stole the $750 Visa fee from my rebills even after i refused on paper and by phone.

They got me for that Visa fee twice and it took them 2 months to fix the accounting error. They seem to have a quite a few accounting errors up till last month all because that extra fee they refunded was deducated again. So we went in a circle for 2 months adding and removing funds due to their poor accounting.

Basically as i see it they purposly fucked up so they could get some interest on those accounts which were double billed. I dont think it will be the last time either they are in need of rasing some quick cash and mistakes you dont catch would be in their favor. While the CMI is down god knows what they are doing maybe some serious auditing looking at where they can steal a few million from rebills.

Better make sure to save your rebill stats each week and not depend on that CMI to keep track of what you are owed.

I was told to go with Epoch or CCbill from the start and now i kick myself for not taking that advice because i to figured shitbill was king.

I'll tell you why Ibill is still growing. We use them for "real" products (dvds and tapes). Since PayPal exited adult, they are the *only* cc biller of any size that lets you sell actual products.

This fact alone will keep Ibill solvent until at least the end of this decade - they have a virtual monopoly on that business, and my guess is the chargebacks are lower too.

That may not be the case, because its quite easy to get your own merchant account if you have good credit and with products that you can deliver and obtain a return receipt for. We got ours in 7 days and use it to deliver CDs and DVD of content. Then most billing companies will do the scrub for you at a much lower % than the 15% or so that Ibill charge.
