WTF are these people thinking? EVERY convention we have some dumbass who has to show up and fuck the program up for the others by damaging property or whatever. We hear about that shit all the time so I won't go on any more about it.

One thing that is rarely mentioned on the boards is people abusing certain substances. I can understand a little but not to the point that it has you so fucked up that you can not do business or even enjoy other parts of the show. Stay and home if you wanna be a vegetable.

I am not talking about the person who occasionally gets fucked up, I am talking about the idiots who show up drunk/high/or whatever and you never even see them sober.

It's pretty annoying when you have a conversation with somebody and the next day, they don't even recall seeing you. So you have the same conversation again...and guess what? Same story the following day. I don't have time for this shit. I go to these shows to have fun and conduct business, not to waste my time with people who are too stupid to know when they have reached a reasonable limit.

Yes, I got pretty fucked up on Thursday night. The difference is that I still remember what went on, I did not damage anything, and I chose to stay sober once the show started.

The actions and negligence of one specific person at this show has prompted me to cut off all ties with this person from today forward. This is a person that I considered a friend until about 3 days ago. You know who you are so don't be surprised when I do not return your emails, phone calls, or instant messages.

Personally, I am down for starting an industry black list to keep these people away from the shows. Just do not allow them to register, it's that simple. The people who can not act responsibly can make a choice. Grow the fuck up or stay home. Your antics and bullshit are not wanted. Our industry has a bad enough reputation as is.

I would like to thank those of you who attend these events and know how to behave. The majority of the people have a clue but it's amazing how just a few people can fuck things up.

I just think when things go wrong which at any event with more than 30 webmasters in one place is going to happen, there is a right way and a wrong way to handle a situation.

Pointing fingers and hoping they are being pointed in the right direction and making accusations that are completely untrue without all of the facts is certainly not the right way to solve a problem.

It has been the same crap for basically every show I have attended. Like other people have mentioned here, some individuals just get rediculously fucked up ... I for one just avoid dealing with these people. Everyone has drinks, and has fun. But the small majority of people do go far far overboard. It is not what our industry needs.

Being completely fucked up at shows is something I have experimented with and since the April show, I no longer drink/drugs at shows. At the Mexico show, I drank one day and was sober at the end of it. I usually just keep to smoking weed, I am fully functional on that. I can understand where you are coming from Aaron, the shit getting ruined is too bad. The hospitality suites and parties always end up getting trashed.

I'm pregnant right now and won't go to the shows that much cause it sucks when everyone around you is fucked up on E, coke, alcohol, etc. Not my scene for the time being, Vegas should be interesting!

If people at the event see them all screwed up, then they won't do business with them. so the person will put themself out of business by their behaviour.

If they cause a disruption at the event, then the sponsors or whoever sees it should notify a bouncer and get them bounced out of there. Simple. Just treat it like any other party or business meeting.

An idea that we once tossed around was a drug/alcohol free convention....for the most part. It would consist of seminars, gatherings, etc., but at night time, fuck the porn parties....nice dinners and shows would substitute. We have Vegas at our disposal and we drink and check out strip clubs...personally, I would rather have a 5 star dinner and go see David Copperfield or the Blue Man Group.

I agree with this 100%. The biggest problem with the webmaster parties are the morons who get too hammered or drugged out of their skull to do anything but slur and sound and look like a bumbling idiot.

I wish it was more professional at times. I can understand "fun" but some people just make it a joke sometimes.

I had an event with 10 people and things went wrong.

I think there were a few crazy incidents where some people were out of hand. I also remember people blaming the wrong people for certain things that were happening.

The think I enjoyed most was being told to go to my room I was not aloud to come out not even to go to the ice machine or to go hail a cab or to smoke a ciggerette.

I wasnt even drinking or anything. Was just quietly by myself getting into an elevator and told "Get back in your room and go to bed" and no she was not joking around with me!

Very well said Aaron. I myself do party quite hard at these gatherings but I recall conversations, and I still do get business done in this state. I certainly don't trash furniture or other people's belongings and I keep relatively quiet and calm compared to some others. OK...here is *MY* take on this...keep in mind that I have a FAR different point of view than most people here:

When security has taken the events coordinator out of her bed at 3am to deal with a loud crowd smoking outside...she will NOT be happy!

When security says, "Smoke them fast and get inside." That is <B>NOT</B> the time to light up a fresh cig. It is time to go into your room. Stop whining about it, there was nothing more I could do.

I almost went to JAIL to keep everyone from getting kicked out of the DoubleTree. By the time security came and got me out of bed, they had printed out a list of everyone who had registered under our promo-code and had high-lighted the names/room numbers of those that they considered 'problems'. By the time people came rolling in on Saturday night/morning, security <B>WAS</B> looking for a reason to kick us al out of their hotel. Friday night, there had been extensive damages to their property.

Having to cut deals and buy off non-convention hotel guests is rediculous! I hope I am not in that position again!

Hearing about the problems that occured Friday night (from bottles being thrown on to the marble floor of the atrium to drunken conventioners sleeping in the elevators) during my wrap-up meeting Saturday was humiliating! I had been braced to hear how we were loud, drunk and sloppy, but out and out DESTRUCTIVE?! Since WHEN does pulling the plants out of the planters and flinging them down several floors in to the atrium seem like a good idea? Or having contests throwing glass bottles down 6-8 floors to listen to them crash on the the marble? What if someone had been walking down there and had gotten pegged by a bottle? Since WHEN is it acceptable to SLEEP in the elevator when you HAVE a ROOM?!

Grow up people, if the GFY Drunk Cam Girl can pull HER shit together for the weekend, why the FUCK can't everyone else?!

That is my rant...

Ah Kayla, it's nothing unusual or new with this crowd, Aaron is entirely correct.

Vancouver was no exception and getting the 'delinquent' report every morning from the F&B director was a cross between amusing and horrific.

We, unfortunately, had people peeing in the lobby of the hotel, fire alarms being pulled, damage being done, a hotel that smelled entirely of smoke and more.

To think this is anything new is silly, it's been going on as long as we've had shows. I can remember one big company that got kicked out of the show hotel over a strawberry margarita machine gone wild... and many other incidents over the years.

Am I saying it's right? Fuck no. But as the event co-ordinator, you need to be prepared for these things since they will happen.

It's not limited to adult either, I've been to non-adult shows where the childish behaviour, altered states and damage to property were much worse.

I almost went to JAIL to keep everyone from getting kicked out of the DoubleTree. By the time security came and got me out of bed, they had printed out a list of everyone who had registered under our promo-code and had high-lighted the names/room numbers of those that they considered 'problems'. By the time people came rolling in on Saturday night/morning, security <B>WAS</B> looking for a reason to kick us al out of their hotel. Friday night, there had been extensive damages to their property. Having to cut deals and buy off non-convention hotel guests is rediculous! I hope I am not in that position again! Hearing about the problems that occured Friday night (from bottles being thrown on to the marble floor of the atrium to drunken conventioners sleeping in the elevators) during my wrap-up meeting Saturday was humiliating! I had been braced to hear how we were loud, drunk and sloppy, but out and out DESTRUCTIVE?! Since WHEN does pulling the plants out of the planters and flinging them down several floors in to the atrium seem like a good idea? Or having contests throwing glass bottles down 6-8 floors to listen to them crash on the the marble? What if someone had been walking down there and had gotten pegged by a bottle? Since WHEN is it acceptable to SLEEP in the elevator when you HAVE a ROOM?! Grow up people, if the GFY Drunk Cam Girl can pull HER shit together for the weekend, why the FUCK can't everyone else?! Vancouver was no exception and getting the 'delinquent' report every morning from the F&B director was a cross between amusing and horrific. We, unfortunately, had people peeing in the lobby of the hotel, fire alarms being pulled, damage being done, a hotel that smelled entirely of smoke and more. To think this is anything new is silly, it's been going on as long as we've had shows. I can remember one big company that got kicked out of the show hotel over a strawberry margarita machine gone wild... and many other incidents over the years. Am I saying it's right? Fuck no. But as the event co-ordinator, you need to be prepared for these things since they will happen. It's not limited to adult either, I've been to non-adult shows where the childish behaviour, altered states and damage to property were much worse.
