Sponsors are more responsible for killing the industry, with their billing practices.

TGPs are the industry.

Those damned paysites and affiliate accounts are there to just serve our TGPs.

Aren't they, Sleazy?

i wouldn't say its 'killing' the industry but the source of 1000's of free daily updated pictures almost eliminates the need for the casual porn surfer to join a site. chances are unless he sees something that he really likes, he'll be content with the free stuff. personally i'd like to see things go back to the old days before free content and hosted galleries. thin out the ranks a bit.

I don't think it is killing the industry. P2P file sharing is a bigger threat. People go to TGPs to watch commercials. If they want more they have to buy. What's wrong with that?

Complete fuckin bogus. TGPs are great high-traffic sources, easy and quick porn for the surfer and the traffic does convert.

But that doesn't mean that there's not money to be made with other sites.

tgps are helping the industry if anything. its like saying the people at costco that hand out free sample cups of food are killing the sales because people eat the samples and dont want to buy food.

lets think about this - how many porn signups does Yahoo get for total volume of all hits it gets, not just specific people looking for porn?

if you compare from that standpoint many TGPs may even do better for ratios then search engine. I started my site looking at search engines thinking that there's no fucking way I'm basing my buisiness on the whimps of a for profit board of directors that can change my entire business with the stoke of a pen - so i got my own raw traffic and never concerend myself with search engines at all.

TGP is killing the industry for simple supply and demand factors... TGP's provide massive amounts of people to massive amounts of free content. With all of this at the surfer's disposal, whats the use of buying a subscription?

TGP has, with time, evolved into a conssummate part of the industry. No matter what one's opinion about it is, the fact of the matter is that it's here to stay, at least for the time being, and those that aren't taking advantage of it as a potential relatively simple stream of revenue are losing out, and have nobody to blame but themselves for the loss. Money is money, turning it down simply on the basis of "That's now how we did it in the GOOD old days" is ridiculous.

And if anything is killing the industry, it's webmasters. Why? If you have to ask, you're probably part of the cause.

Exactly. So why waste all those hits on "freebies"?

I like sleazy. I like his business model. I just wish he (tgp's) didn't have to give so much away for so little return.

I've said this a few times before and don't know if any of the big TGP players have tried this, but I'd bet you'd double your revenues if you'd just let them see only the thumbs and make them pay to see the enlarged pics using a micropayment system.

Someone already has this model.. actually more like a system any TGP can plug into. If I can find the link again, I'll post it.

Is it increasing revenues for them?

I'm a big believer that the next wave is going to be all about micro payments for porn. Where you click a thumb and a ridiculously small amount would be charged to your account. Pennies add up when you are dealing with tens of millions of people like the porn biz does.

I like sleazy. I like his business model. I just wish he (tgp's) didn't have to give so much away for so little return.
do you have any idea what my return is?

NO

thus, you're an idiot.

2 years ago this TGP killing the business argument was a good one. Now, with broadband surfers making up such a large part of the signups, TGP's are as Rick said 'Just a commercial.' Picture galleries are no more than big ads now.

As long as no one regularly starts posting videos longer than 20 seconds we will be ok. Anyone that does that should be shot. I know a lot of big MGP owners that won't allow large movies to be added to their pool. Hopefully everyone else is on the same page with this.

Although, ratios would be incredible with no free porn out there. I don't think anyone could argue that.

the concept has certainly been around for awhile, but never really took off. there was a huge mpeg movie paysite from the late 90's that was making a killing charging on a per megabyte usage. they ended up fading away though, as other quality movie paysites began emerging.

Like the content providers!

sounds like tgp2 and doesn't work in a free open marketplace.
the one who doesn't comply will get all the traffic and in the end all the money.

If you could get to costco just by typing in a URL, and get thousands and thousands of samples, would you buy food?

TGP's used to be softcore/teaser pics... now there's no difference between the content on the galleries and the galleries in the members area.
