TROJ_SIRCAM.A

Okay folks... I know HQ and others have posted on this email virus earlier.

Check your systems to make sure this virus isn't installed!!

Look to see if you're running "Scam32" or, better yet, look for the presence of this registry key:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Curr entVersion\
RunServices\Driver32=?C:\Windows\System\Scam32.exe ?

More info on this virus can be found here: TROJ_SIRCAM.A

If you do have it, here's an easy fix: FixSirc.com

Apparently, plenty of folks are still getting emails with this thing attatched. The only way to slow down and stop these emails is for everyone to be clean. Spread the word!!

[little old lady from Poltergeist voice]
This computer is cleansed

Thanks

--== BUMP ==--

and adding this...

You can use the free program POP3 Scanmail for checking your email before you download any of it: POP3 Scanmail

It may not be practical to immediately delete everything with an attatchment (because you might delete something you want to see), but if you can download one attatchment email and then recognize the others, you can save yourself some serious download time until this thing is gone.

That virus is FUCKING sickening. I've been getting emails left and right that are infected with that virus, I even got infected myself with it, stupid me, ha ha ha.

Anyways, this virus is a PAIN IN THE ASS !! The only thing that I could get to work on my computer was Explorer, nothing else. I did get into my Norton early on, but it said that it couldn't delete it and then the virus must've shut down the program also because it said that I have to re-install my virus program.

HOWEVER, if anyone has this virus, go here - http://www.symantec.com/avcenter/ven...oval.tool.html I tried dicking with it, but couldn't get rid of it, so this should do the trick for ya. I know that once you get it, you can't do much and if you're not the most literate at digging into stuff, then this fix-it patch will do wonders for ya.

GOOD LUCK !!!

nice post guys.
No doubt this virus is an epidemic spreading fast, seems like Im getting more and more emails with the virus everyday rather than less.

Only way of stopping it seems to be educating those that get the email not to open it.

Biggest problem is that the virus modifies itself, so it's a different attachment every single time varying in size from 140K up to 4Megs. The virus spreads itself to every e-mail address found in people cache-files. So I'm getting a shitload of 'em myself. Curing it will be hard. I'm really surprised I didn't hear anything in the media about this yet. I assume a lot of big companies are getting the e-mails.

They seem to be coming from valid email addresses, so I've been emailing them all back to let them know they have the virus installed (I just pasted the above info). I haven't had one show up for about 12 good hours now.

I even saw more pop up... One was a VBScript that tried to execute ActiveX commands on opening the e-mail. So not after opening the attachment, but after viewing the e-mail itself! I was prompted by my system 'cause I made one change to my security settings. If you're using IE I would suggest you check http://www.thehun.net/articles/altersecurity/.

We are getting hundreds of this virus in our business email. I reply to all of them, with a free SirCam remover URL and website abou this virus. But I keep getting the virus from the same people. Are they idiot or what ?
Or this fucking virus delete all "reply" emails ? I sent normal email to 2 of them asking if they got my warning mail.. let's see.

If it gets that bad where you're email is full of huge file attatchments, then use the POP3 Scanmail to check your email before you download any of it. The program will let you delete the emails you check off, and then you can use your normal email program to download the rest.

I'd probably grab one email from each person so I could send a reply to the people sending it... but I can imagine [the frustration with] a few [people who] will be thinking "yeah right" or as Jer said, "but my virus scanner says I don't have it".

The fix from Norton wouldn't hurt a system that didn't have it. Maybe I'd start telling them to download and use that file to detect it. Of course, if they're that dense, they're probably opening all the attatchments to give their advice anyhow - so it'd only be a temporary fix.

I delete them from the server then start to download emails from that account, and during that minute or two I find even more have been sent...
