Avn Internext--got A Question?

AVN/Internext is in a few days what I dont understand is all the money to have a booth, and $275 per ticket to each webmaster, why Internext does not host a "INTERNEXT PARTY" similar to what they do for AVN?

Now I have mentioned this to the "new people" they just brought on to Internext. Dont get me wrong D-Money with the Players Ball is Cool, but why with all the money Internext does not host a party to thank or salute all the hard working Sponsor program owners and webmasters that fly in and pay all the money to attend a show?

I have spoken to many Sponsor programs not having a booth this year, the feeling is "why" over the years pay all the money and really it comes down to money "they" pony up to entertain there webmasters, and hook the rocking parties, it just does not seem to make any sense to me, and I thought I would just post it up her for discussion on the GFY board.

See everyone in Vegas, the show will be good cause I know all the awsome sponsor programs will see it to make it so!

It is a good point . . . I wonder how much profit is actually made these days. I am willing to bet that only a small percentage of the attendees buy a ticket that gets them into the forums, combined with lower attendance, fewer booths, . . .

don't concern yourself with the profits of others unless you plan to become a direct competator of them.

I am split on what to think on this one. I have to Agree with Sleazy, but at the same time, I dont see them giving any praise to the people that are making them a ton of money. The other programs are, and they are basically the same thing.

Its not being cheap and greedy. Its BUISNESS. People are in buisness to make money. Half the people that hide behind computers have no REAL idea what it costs to run a successfull buisness.

You see a buisness making a ton of money in 1 area , but dont see where they lose money in other areas. You dont see the BIG picture, just tunnelvision which is why some of you are destined to a mediocre life.

And if they are making a ton of money.. power to them. Same opportunity is open to every person in AMerica and most other countries.. you just need to go out and get it !!!

avn should post what it costs to rent the hall and secure the place, that's money that has to be paid upfront. most that grumble about what AVN makes would pee themselves if they saw some of the expensis, not to mention the payroll they have.

I have a collection of AVN Mags, i looked at Dec 2003 and Dec 2004, The 2004 issu has may be 50% less ads then 2003.

Hope same does not go for the Internext

You figure that with an average price of about 200 and about 5000 people attending they get about a million dollars in attendee revenue. There are about 150 booth spaces at $2500 a piece though $1000 of that goes to the five passes you get with a booth which is accounted for in the 5000 people attending so thats roughly another quarter million. Then all the advertising opportunites probably brings in another quarter to half a million. I'm guessing it brings in around $2 million dollars.

As for cost I'm sure renting the Expo hall is in the high six figures. Then you've got printing the show guides, badges, staffing, promotions, processing charges, etc. Probably cost them 1 to 1.5 million to operate.....Then you have to remember they employ some people full time to sell advertising, make arrangments, negotiate, etc....for the winter show, the summer show and Adult Expo (which is an even bigger event).

SleazyDream, its only a matter of time till someone comes up with the better plan, paying the 3000 to 50,000 for a booth space then getting charged an extra 500 hundred for Internet access or 300 more for the electrical outlets,or ANYTHING extra for your booth is a joke.

Hey I guess that is alright, my question was WHY DONT THEY DO SOMETHING OTHER THAN TAKE PEOPLES MONEY?

One thing you are forgetting in Vegas, when biz is brought to the casino, there is always the "kick back" increased revenues for biz at the tables etc. Buddy is a host in Vegas; it?s a standard deal to large groups that roll that many people with that kind of money in.

Everyone should make there money, of course as Joe and Sleazy say it?s the American world wide dream to be successful and do well. But, what I am saying is the very same way the Sponsors, merchant banks, and every other small company "gives back" to the people that make them money, all I am saying is for Internext to 'HAVE A PARTY, OR SOMETHING"

AVN has the awards, what does Internext have? SleazyDream VIP/TGP dinner< or The Players Ball, Rum Jungle? all sponsor attendee driven....

So I guess I am to believe that AVN/Internext is so tight with there budget they cant afford to do SOMETHING ANYTHING to show some kind of "hey thanks for coming out another year" or "you guys are doing some great biz, here is a party for you"........nada...

I hope a thought like this might shake up or maybe provoke some out side the normal status quo thinking on this matter!

SleazyDream, you know what you are right....they should.

I was in the Rock Concert Event biz/Nightclubs in Los Angeles for about 18 years, i know my numbers, i would be very curious and would love to see that. What would the show be with out your Dinner, or Rum Jungle, or the famous Players Ball?.............to get you must give back....that is all I am saying. Times are changing.........

Look at Webmaster Access....Lensman is a smart fucker, he does the party, GFY WARM UP PARTY he understands what is going on....I support W.A! Internext hopes the Lensman does not decide to roll to Vegas, he would put Internext on notice.

I agree with you there Mike. Lensman knows what it is like to be in the trenches. I think the WA is going to be the future in this business. Great point about ahving to give to get.

Booths are definetely expensive there is no doubt about that. However if you have a new product or service you want to get out to the masses, an Internext booth will get you some excellent "eyes on' exposure.

This is a transitional year actually for Internext.

Players Ball used to be up close with Internext Promoters but since shit hit the fan DMoney has gone indepently.

Which is a good thing.
Now I saw this funny little announcement about some "hoe ball" or somthing that was somthing about CHi CHi La Rue or other supposedly sponsored by Internext promoters...

All I can say is that their tradeshow makes more money than any of their other endeavours...

Next year I have a feeling AVN will have competition in the tradeshow arena, just like they do now with XBIZ

Question is...will XBIZ go head to head?
Or will Klixxx go head to head?

Or will they both team up together and kill the tradeshow as now know it?

I am hearing and seeing things that lead me to believe AVN's complacency is about to change.

I am excited to see if a new hotel will change the ambiance for the webmaster this year. I'll also be comparing prices from last year at the Venetian, as well as looking at the amount of booths on the show floor.

With the attrition rate being what it is these days, and traffic not as profitable as it once was...I'd think it would be foolish for anyone to think that companies will still consistently float $25- $100,000 in expenses for a tradeshow in Vegas.

I know I hear a lot of people complain that they hate dealing with union labor, tradeshow booths, and getting gauged by the hotel for unnecessary charges.
Maybe next year, if what I hear is right, webmasters won't have to come out of pocket for anything....

Just airfare....NOW THAT would be something wouldn't it?

kBizzle..well said!
That is funny I thought that very thing myself about Klixxx or Xbiz.

We did not get a booth this year not because we cant afford it, it just did not make any sense and it just feels like a "shake down". We are spending more money on other things around the show rather than the over priced booth with the 500 dollar extra internet charge for connection or 300 dollar power charge etc..

They used to give out AVN awards and have a party.

Can't remember why they stopped. We won a few awards back in 97and 98 when they did it.

Hey! That's our idea for a webmaster event we plan to start organizing for Costa Rica, soon as we get back from Vegas

The basic idea is we will take care of renting a resort, supplying food, drinks and activities and webmasters/affiliates just have to get here

Mike,
I recall the culture shock when the show moved from the Monte Carlo to the Venetian...Talk about "sticker shock"

While we did end up getting a nicer place to hold an event, we did also incur more expenses. I remember $20 cheeseburgers, and internet connection fees that could choke a horse...

However there were a lot of great parties and "get togethers" that arose from the show being in that location...One being YISHAI's Yearly Dinner at Canneletto's- another being the Players Ball at C2K
The "V" Bar was always a place for some shindigs and my favorite place in the World...Emeril's "Delmonico's"

Many a nice private business dinner was held there. I think when it all comes down to it- most people like to do what they like to do- I know most people in this business are resourceful people who won't buy fresh content for their site or are switching hosting companies to save $100 a month...

It would be naive of AVN to think that these same people
will continue to shell out BIG $$$ once a year for this show if there becomes some sort of competition that gives the webmaster some intrinsic value.

Keep in mind one very important tidbit of advice here Mike...
XBIZ, WEBMASTER ACCESS and KLIXXX are run by successful web operators who have made affiliates millions of dollars in this business.
THEY HAVE TRAFFIC. Traffic = Lifeblood for paysites and products....

AVN is owned by The adult VIDEO news world- their end user is the bookstore owner who purchases product from the video companies that advertise in AVN Magazine.

If you are new to the adult web, where would you want to be? In front of webmasters or video people?

Don't get me wrong- AVN has a very large database of webmasters from years of putting out AVN Online, they also inherited Steve Hearn's old list-

Time will tell- let's see how this tradeshow turns out for them in a new location this time-

Anyone remember what happened when AVN went to a new hotel in Ft Lauderdale...did you guys save money or spend more?

:-))

I know we are spending close to $50K total on Vegas.

However, that fits in fine for our new monthly advertising budget for 2005

For others though, I can definately say the prices are DAMN high for things like booth, wiring, internet connection, etc....

Smaller programs however, can get the same amount of business done from just attending the show, walking around, networking, attending the parties

Really spending big cash I think is more about brand-recognition....it also shows people you have money, and for some people thats enough to convince them to try you over someone else

Don't forget the women

A lot of people have shown interest that I've talked to, some big programs also showed an interest in helping out by sponsoring....

We will see in Vegas who is serious about it, then start the planning as soon as we are back!
