Don't lie to me!

Ok, I have a serious question. A webmasters future lies in the balance of your answers.

How much money could a serious webmaster make in a year, starting at ground zero, with nothing?

Remember, her future depends on your answers, and don't you fuckin' lie to me!

Yes she has a good design sense. More so than I've seen on some adult sites.

so many variables

but i would hazard a guess at between 24k and 35k

these numbers should grow yearly with both hard work and more experience in the biz

There are a lot of factors, but probably in the 18-20K range...now, if she has a "day job" to keep her normal bills paid and takes every dime she makes for the first six months and keeps re-investing in things like paid hosting, automation scripts, etc., she could do better. Her business sense would probably be more of a factor than design sense. Can she run this like a business? Can she keep bills paid while building her empire? These are very serious questions, if she wants to make a decent living in this business.

I would have to agree with most of the posts.. If she busts her ass she can make at in upwards of 45k.. but thats streaching it to far. i would shoot for under 20k a year. get her to set a goal and go for it, if she has someone to teach her the ropes and doesnt want to have a life the first 2 years and works hard she can make it.. but coming in fresh and not networking will leave you in total dissapointment.

bringing more sheep into the dark fold eh shoey?

to put an exact figure on what an adult webmaster can make in their first year is like asking how long is a piece of string. there are so many factors and one formula doesn't work for everyone. if she works hard and has half the brain of these idiots, she'll make money.

BTW give your friend a hearty GFY in advance...

She seems like she'd take to this like a fish takes to water. And she also seems to understand business. And I've talked to her a couple of times... She has twice the brain.

It's really going to depend on a lot of factors.

How much time you have. You going to do gallery posting? Going to build a TGP, Going to build AVS, Free sites? Going to do all of it?

How fast do you catch on? Do you take the advice of others, do you research the ideas presented on the boards?

How much you have to invest in content and server space?

Put a decent amount of time into it, and experiment a lot, and I say that you can make $20-25k your first year depending on how fast you catch on. Then again, most people dont figure it out, quit and go back to their day jobs.

It depends..Some people have huge skills and some never rely on people and vice versa..Skills can be taught though. To me one of the most important things is networking and making sure people like you..Learning how to rapp with people and creating a good repor with people..My sucess has come from people liking me and thats a fact..When I started i didnt even know what a URL was.. I didnt know jack shit..

So Red if she has a good personality and has the skilss i think she can do 40kPLUS for the first year..

When i started thats all i did was talk talk talk to people..

You can have great skills but if your an ass,No one will deal with you..I wish her the best and if she needs to ask me anything ? Shes more then welcome..

I think with a good plan, a good attitude and some support, there is no reason a webmaster shouldn't be able to make $50k+ easily in one year...

Best of luck.

I think that there are too many sides to this industry it be able to give any certain figure,
also it can depend on thing like how motivated you are, how you network yourself etc.

personally i wouldn't know about starting from scracth coz I was lucky enough to have soemone hand me their 6 years work .

I think that somewhere between 25 - 50 K sounds reasonable if you are really going to go hard at it.

I'm sure with you, Red Shoe by side - it''ll all be sweet You're a great guy and always really helpful!
and your big yellow smiley face always cheers us all up !

Well to be completely honest I didn't start TGping until the 2nd week of October. And by the end of November I had received approximately $2k Canadian in cheques from my sponsors. Minus of course the bandwidth considerations and other associated costs.

And you have to remember here, I am pretty new to the scene as well. I don't honestly think you can live a lavish life the 1st year of this biz. But if you have a decent full time job and you do this on the side (Steady) you can make some really decent $$$.

I hope to anyways!

RedShoe,

I'll play devils advocate on that question,
Odds say she probably won't be in the biz in a year.
but if she can beat that hurdle and she does all of the networking and hard work and learns the ropes from friends all as mentioned above, she probably will be making 500 bucks a month clear by the end of her first year. and if she persists the numbers will just get bigger each and every month from there on out.

Peace and send her a welcome from me! :-)

I'll say $20K-$25K if she sticks with it... and uses her brain.

I have been in the biz for about 3 years. First two years I wasted my time and made about 3k per. 2001 I started networking and found the right sponsers and have made about
10 times that and expect it to double or hopefully triple in 2002. If you work hard and don't waste time fucking around like I did the first two years I would say that she could make between 20-40K.

If you're not in this biz because you love it to begin with -- then I think you're already doomed. Where is she???

I think Redshoe just wants to quit his special effects job :p
