yawn...not surprising, another reason why i never give my real SS# when signing up for affiliate programs initially. in my time in this "biz" i've come across quite a few fairly large programs who had piss poor security where WM information such as name, password, address, SS and etc were available to anyone whom has a mind like mine. I always informed these companies of the problem and possible solutions but still most people are not taking security serious.

Back in 97 Cybererotica's webmaster info was insanely easy to grab.

I guess that big almost 12 years in the business boasting would intimidate most everyone on GFY...except for me.
See the last line for the date I registed my first domain. Keep in mind I was working newsgroups 2 years prior to it using a uucp alias with an address that had a bang path.

Drav... I did a Kblogger.com entry about this a month or so ago.[Friday, June 03, 2005 -Cascading Values]. Given the data that these scripts have access to you haev to accept that they expose your entire business plan... your members... their emails, addresses..credit card numbers... renewal numbers.... your affiliates... their traffic sources.... fraud.... YOUR ENTIRE business plan is accessible to any of these "cascading script prgrams". And now given the blatant vulnerabilities anyone that does a solid security audit.

Make no mistake about it... you are entrusting your entire business model in the hands of the company that you choose as a vendor. Its very crucial that you examine the history and business ethics of those vendors before you select the one thats right for you.

Otherwise... the could copy not only all of your sites... but have access to your members...affiliates and traffic sources.

Choose wisely or risk being dupilcated out of business.

Gonzo...

I do not run affiliate programs.
I build them.
Making reccomendations.
Carving it out.
Setting up a ballgame.
Creating an image.

Designing the tours. Sometimes 10-20 sites.
Working with the processors.
Explaining the systems.

I have built an entire program in under 1.5 months. That is my record doing the tours members sections to banners and affiliate script installation and implementation.

I am one man, not one of the silly neophytes that run around looking for sig views that are easy to impress these days.

Congratualtions on your first domain registration in 1993...

Dont explain it to me ... worry about your clients.
But in the interest of goodwill let me know when they are done and Ill have my friend "Kevin" do a full and comprehensive security audit for you to make sure that all the obvious holes are found at no charge.

Ill be sure and post the audit on GFY for ya too!

Well, since the air has pretty much left this balloon, let me say that you made a very nice post Greg.

As for Fris...so what happened to him? Did the moderators send him to bed early after forcing him (rightfully so) to edit his post?

Brad seems somewhat humbled by all of this. <marking date on my calendar>

...and, is anybody wondering what that Kanji (Japanese writing) in AlienQ's sig means (I'm not sure if even he does, although I'm sure he will say he does now)?

Answer: Art and Architecture

Sayonara y'all,

ADG Webmaster

EDIT: Oops, almost forgot, nice Emu's there Juicy. Didn't know the beasts could be that expressive.

Hey Todd. Yes I know the Canadians out at Mustang Software very well. I also know John Friel and Chuck Foresburg too. Nice benefits when you hung out with Dennis Hayes from time to time because you were a sysop.

The first implemntation of RIP I saw was on Searchlight BBS. I also had a nice implementation of it running the last commerical version of PCboard. We experimented with it running a multi line dating system with PCBoard and Excalibur BBS as the web was coming on line.

I had 12 lines into my house at one point as well as an ISDN line. You didnt have to worry about processors at first. The checks came in the mail and then we started processing with a fucking flower company... remember Telefloral?

My favorite Mustang Software App was an offline reader called SLMR. Silly Little Mail Reader. Do you remember it?

Shame it had to happen like this - shame that some crazy shit will go down due to this

My staff fucked up. biz is biz, bullshit is bullshit. This is biz..

Tomorrow I will sit down with everyone and figure out where we went wrong. In the end, they work for me and I am also to blame.

BTW, ES has 3 months of clients in line to be set up at $25k a pop.... ES does ok, but I spend most of my time on newer ventures. ES got its own legs fast.

Where is Dave from Hardcore Money these days anyhow? That man knew a good lawsuit.... I remember that humbling experience when Brad had to go to ever resource and post an apology to him.

Gonzo,

I remember all of that mano, good times

Canadians?? Mustang was all out of bakersfield, ca. A good friend used to write door games for wildcat and other, Mike Jordan, and his friend Rusty Johnson.

Yeh, Chuck lives down the road a few miles from us, My Pops does some deck and other work for him once in a while. Smart fellow there.

Slmr I used a couple of times, but not much.. For system mail and groups we finally went to D-bridge, and worked like a charm.

I had a teleflora merch. acct up until like 3 yrs ago

I also remember when Excal came out, I thought it was cool as shit. We ran worldgroup also on Major bbs and it was cool too.

For $25K, I'd fly my programmer in to the client's office or NOC the very next day and have it installed by hand. Not tell them to come back in 100 days.

... But that's just what I would do for my clients.

Yeah had a Trash-80 Model I tricked up with 64K in the keyboard, true decenders in text, clocked up to 5.33 MHz (from 1.6 MHz) with an additional 32K in the E/I so I could bankswitch or use it as a print spooler running an LNW-80 disk controller with 4 8 inch Shugarts and 4 5.25 inch 360k floppies for more than 3 MB of online floppy storage (this was 1980 - 81) and a Votrax SE-01 voice synthesizer chip on the E/I port and running CP/M 2.2... Man that machine was a blast to hack around with... I loved Z80 assembler! Then the 8086 and 8088 came along and screwed it all up for everyone... Damn Intel crap...

Ben,

your def. an old timer

My dad and older brother loved the coco and the 6809 chip in it. We mostly had a cassete tape in it. My older brother wrote like a centipede game and a few others for it. using old peek and poke - Assembly routines.

he got a couple of games published in coco mags and got like 50 or 100.00 back then

One day my wife said "I wish I could figure out what is so fascinating about computers, maybe I should get one and see... " The next day I traded an Icom 2AT that I had tricked up to the police band for another Trash-80 and cane home with it and said "surprise!".... I thought she was going to hit me with the monitor... That becaome my 4th Model I... along with the T1000, 2 Commodore 64s and a Vic/20... that bedroom was HOT!

I didnt know the Bakersfield crew... only the SLMR Canadians. The doors were back then was scripts are to this business. And as I recall there were some hacks dropping to dos from Doorway as well.

Chuck Foresburg and Ward Christiansen were 2 very smart guys. You have to wonder what kind of brain it takes to develop the 2 major modem protocols and I think Ive seen Zmodem still being commerically used to this day.

Excal was a great idea.... they just never did finish developing it it and righfully so as I recall the last plug in I bought for it was an extension to jump out on the web and port the first rev of html code back thru the BBS.

I recall using DBridge for a while to toss some fido and QWK packets and I think it was supposed to port uuci/uuco packets over the the message base format.

I ended up using Ed Hopper out of Plano,Texas and his utility to move those newsgroups and net mail around. Robert Vostreys was a good friend of mine so he were constanly refining the abilities of QWK packets.

I guess RSS feeds on message boards are as close as we will ever get to an offline mail reader again.

Didn't do too much with the Co-Co... but the MC-10 was a cunning little bugger... :-)
