I am finally prepping the hours of video that I have been stocking up on. The videos are ready to be converted to .wmv files and will be available shortly. My question is: What length of video clip is preferred? Should I chop them up into segments or should I offer them in full length, or both?

my members have been quite happy with 10-20 mb chops.. but that was nearly a year ago.

sooo many users have high speed connections today so you might want to think about offering the full movie even, which means more bandwith of course. you'd be surprised how many people are too lazy to download 20 parts

Let me add this.... For every 1 minute of video, in broadband form, it is approx. 1.8mb. This is not for MY site... It is for my customer's sites. So... As a customer... What option would interest you the most?

I do both Aaron
Full length and 3-5 min .wmv clips.
All of wich are encoded for dialup, medium, and hi bandwidths.

I would recommend 2 mg files for the 56k guys and put the whole thing in two parts for the broadband folks.

I have found 20-30mb clips fine for broadband users and dial-ups seem to be able to handel 5mb.
The only complaints I here is size vs play time/quality

yeah offer full length alongside cut up versions for dial-up..

oh i forgot, try and link a freebie/shareware movie editor from tucows etc.. alongside the smaller clips so the users can edit the shit together into one long clip once they've downloaded the sections.. easy with mpegs.. not sure about apps for wmv tho..

I think having as many options as possible is the best way to go.
I mean if all else fails you can just sell me the full length high quality and I'll chop it and compress it myself for the dial up users.
But if I have to spend extra time/money on labor to do this, then obviously I won't be willing to pay as much for the content itself.

However if you had a full length vid in broadband and dial up format, plus the corresponding 1 min clips for each on the same CD that I could just upload and link to, then I'd probably be willing to pay a little more for it :D
