Muhahaha

Could I beatdown an able bodies person in a fight and win? Honestly yes but not everyone. Lets just say if you do fight me make damn sure I do not get a grip on you at any point and pull you to the ground. Regardless though if a fight takes place between an able bodied person and a person in a wheelchair the dissabled person already has won before a single blow has taken place. It is a lose lose situation for the abled bodied person.
Lets say you beat the fuck out of me, well whoopie doo you beat up a person in a wheelchair, lets hope nobody saw it or there may be a group beating on you. Then on the flip side, you get in a fight with a person in a wheelchair and they beat you, well shit you just got your ass kicked by a gimp. I sure in hell hope nobody saw that either.

I do not think there is a UFC for people in wheelchairs, though may I suggest you watch some indoor basketball. I think Bravo or the learning chanel has a special on this month called murder ball, check it out.

The chair may not attract the chicks but it puts them at ease. Now the story on the other hand well

Yes and yes.

Fuck no, push me around. I get tired all the time and I am not gunna turn down a free ride.

I prefer manual for day to day life and motorized when traveling or in hotels etc.

When you tickle your feet does anything happen . like in your head maybe.. The nerves must still exist right ?

How do you feel about stem cell research.

Do you think a non-paralyzed person could ever beat a pralyzed person at a wheelchair race ?
I can not feel myself piss, though I know when I need to, same goes with shitting. Though it is a little different cause then I feel some.
Colostomy bag, dear gawd no.
Tickling is all mental man. Very little to do with nerves. Try it, nobody can tickle themselves. Now to answer the underlying question. You may get a reaction if you stimulate the nerves and this usually results in a spasm of some sort. Yes the nerves are still there but in my case they are short circuited or dead ends when it reaches the spinal cord in an attempt to reach the brain. Some have found detours or other routes and some just do not get there ever. Like I can still feel hot and cold somewhat but not how hot or cold. Or I could bend my foot funny and end up with an ache in my lower chest.

I am all for stem cell research and what it can do for future injuries. I know I typically would never be a candidate since most or all results will be applied primarly to resent injuries. Those that are against it just need to wake the fuck up. Either we use the tissue or we destroy it. If you value life so bad then surely you would not want it destroyed right?

Umm that really would depend. There is a lot to be said for general arm strength, but even more for understanding the basics of driving a chair at any significant speed. Then few people really develop their triceps much and that is where the strength comes from when pushing.

I'm not paralyzed, so ASM's answers will differ.

I think one of the best feelings in the world is a good piss after a night of drinking.

Sure, it tickles.

I am for stem cell research for the most part, though I do have a few concerns, which I won't get into here.

I don't really understand your question, but I do know that those wheelchair racing dudes are fucking fast.

One of my best friends is paralyzed from the waist down and I'm always afraid to ask questions and they always begin "no offense but..."

She actually just had a baby and they took blood from the umbilical cord and had it stored so she can possibly use it later ... stem cell all the way baby!!

Get into it

He was asking if a normal person was to sit in a chair could they beat a chair bound person in a wheelchair race.

On the flip side, I could bet good money that I could beat anyone in a race with me in my chair and them running on a flat course if I could pick the location, have a 3 foot head start and there was no touching allowed. Manual chair as well.

Do you ever have a problem with people stealing from you when you fly? Twice when my husband, who was in a wheelchair most of the time towards the end, he had something stolen from him by the people that help you on and off the plane. The first was when we went to the vegas convention a few years ago and some guy on the cleaning crew that came in while we were wating to get off insisted on helping him off and then his wallet was missing. The airline then claimed there wasn't a cleaning crew that serviced that plane and more or less refused to look into it.

Sly suggested getting a chain to attach his wallet to and he did start doing that.

Great thread and it answers a lot of questions that people are usually scared to ask.
My grandmother was on a wheelchair for as long as I can remember, she fell walking down the street and they operated her for something small but ended in a major disaster. I spent most of my childhood taking care of her, she was my real life Barbie growing up because I would dress her up and play with her all the time. This thread brought up great memories as she passed away 6 years go. The spasms and the bruises from sitting all the time are the worst part but life goes on and you adapt.
I have a friend who was paralyzed since birth and he got married a few years back and had a son last year.
Nobody said life would be easy in any situation, you just have to adapt and fuck whoever does not like it.

I hate to fly and do it as little as possible. Had this issue once where I ended up in one state and my chair ended up in another. Plus I have so much shit I need to bring with me that I NEED and can not easily replace without prescriptions.
Yes I have had stuff stolen before though, there is no limit to the lows of human depravity.

I watch my stuff like a hawk. Chain works good, but better yet I just give it to somebody else to hold. If there's a chick around, purse is perfect.

Kudos to the both of you for being willing to openly answer so many questions about something so sensitive. I have to admit I've always been very curious about a few things asked here (actually, all the Q's Smokey asked lol).

Since I personally don't know anyone in a chair, it's not exactly something I can ask some stranger in the street: "Hey buddy, I'm just curious. Can you feel your penis? Are you able to jerk off?" lol Ya know?

So even though my curiosities have already been filled and I have no more Q's, thanks for laying it all out there.

Yeah, US Airways essentially broke his chair on the internal leg of our flight and nobody would look into that either. Pretty hard to be in a different country with a broken chair and no money because they stole your wallet.

I think the thing that annoyed me the most on his behalf was people talking to me instead of him when we were both there. Especially when the question was about him. It was the assumption that because his legs didn't work very well that his brain must be hindered too. In reality he was the smartest person I have ever known.

I have my own way of dealing with certain people. One just master the ability to totally tard out. That alone is super priceless.
Nothing like hearing someone at like Costco make a stupid comment and then following them through the store making wierd arm and face gestures and yelling out items they pick up. "Toilet paper, yea!" and clapping.

Yeh, that depends on where in the country you are. I grew up exactly like that. I was shocked when I moved to California, people actually spoke to me!

Those are the type of people that get my super special tard treatment. Want to see someone treat you a whole lot different at customer service. Tard out on them real loud. " Oh no! No! he touched my winkie! no, not good, 911 911"

Which brings me to ask - 'Timmy!' ..funny or annoying?

Kind of both. Not really funny or annoying, but more funny than annoying.

Truly depends on the person and situation. I have no personal shame so I do not mind getting super annoying, even if it makes me look like the biggest goober on the face of the planet to the point it embarrasses relatives long since deceased.

I have zero issue using the chair and or others embarrassment to my advantage when I am being treated wrong or unfairly.

Oh yeah that was you huh!

Should of kept your mouth shut, I had forgot who it was that pissed me off.
I revoke my offer to cuddle and instead offer up the option for you to participate in a video taped demonstration of how to perform a sterile catheterization that I can share with gfy.

On a side note in case you are one of the many who can not see tidbits of info hidden within what many people say or talk about. There is an adult sales lesson hidden within this thread. Something that is highly important yet so often overlooked that it literally is mind boggling.

Great thread Very informative and nice to read answers to questions that many of us wonder about.

My question is, being paralyzed, are you able to have children?

Why not?
My testicles are perfectly fine and it is not like they died or something. So I can easily have a doctor harvest semen if I wanted them to either via syringe or through electronic prostate stimulation (same as they do for bulls).
From there it is just a matter of insemination into a willing female.

Oh ok... I didn't know how that worked after I read the above posts about ejaculating. That's really interesting.

you know what i like about internet message boards? you don't have a clue how people look like, what race, what color, standing on two legs or sitting in a wheelchair. i don't fuckin' care whether you sit in a wheelchair or not - you are obviously one of the smarter persons here and that's what counts.

ASM

i think it's great that you are answering questions.

do you remmber how big was your tumor, how long it took them to find it out it was the cause and after the surgery there was no connection at all in the spinal canal?

thanks

Great post ASM. I've been in a chair now for 28 years and one of the biggest obstacles I've come accross is people's ignorance. Obviously it's not there fault, as many able bodied people have never personally known a person in a chair so they're clueless and want to treat you as a 'cripple' which is annoying as hell. Knowledge empowers and I really dig this post!
The top questions always asked is
Does your dick get hard
Can you have sex
How do you use the bathroom
The funniest thing for me is going somewhere with my wife (who is a hottie) people always assume she is my sister, or my nurse. Now that I'm getting older looking and since she's 8 years younger than me and hasn't aged since we've been married I'm starting to get "is she your daughter". I think it's funny, cause everybody knows a guy in a wheelchair can't be taggin a hot piece of ass!
