I use 2 IE windows on 1 monitor. That you see there is only a sample of the full screen size.

Yea I do alot of audio production with Logic, Cubase, Reason etc. Two monitors is essential. You can get around on one, but its much more difficult.

People who have never used two monitors just cant understand how much easier it makes getting work done, without having to shuffle, minimize, maximize windows all the time. With my tiny low rez lcd I have to use at work I feel crippled.. its like trying to do my job with my mobile phone:P

There was a study released a while ago, that actually measured if two monitors makes you more efficient. The results were that your productivity increases by up to 50%. Tried to take that to my boss, but he laughed at me

Sorry but this is the most clueless statement ever. lol I have dual 21" monitors, and my laptop to the left of those. I use one mouse and keyboard for all 3 using synergy to go between laptop and desktop. Im adding another machine and going to run a kvm setup to switch between the two desktop machines. ANYONE who designs, or does video editing etc KNOWS that once you switch to a dual monitor setup you will never go back. Ive actually toyed with the idea of quad 27" monitors. But yes again. You are clueless.

Ya I use Nuendo to record with, and trying to edit multible audio tracks with a single monitor would drive me bonkers. Going to take a new picture of my setup here in just a bit.

One moment. I said using two MONITORS is stupid.

Using two computers or three computers is a totally different thing.

I use two computers, one for rip and encode and the other for all the rest. The one for rip and encode has always it's monitor turned off though.

I think you are the clueless one here.

But anyways, back on thread topic.. i was going to buy an apple 24" display.. the 30 is just too big for me.

Then I found the Dell 24" monitors wich have great consumer reports ratings, and have a few more features than the apple displays and the best part is.. they are half the price of the comparable apple... so I got two of them!! Going to post a pic when my set up is complete

Ok, so I have got a dual core comp, and can do encoding etc on one screen while working undisturbed on the other one. Still stupid?

Well I bought two dell 2007, 20.1" wide screens.
And I must say I love them.

I'll get a pic here soon. Just bought a new desk, so its a pretty big mess right now.

oops forgot to post a pic, well glad I didnt. I just upgraded this week to dual 22" widescreen flatscreens. Still working on my desk. Trimming out all the white painted areas with wood trim, and building a foot rest /wirechase underneath. And in the middle now of building a enclosure on the left and right side that each store 1 computer. The one on the right is partly done, but needs fabric covering applied, and glass door put on. Getting there slowly.

I've been using two 19"s for a few years and lately, have been drooling over a 32" Samsung HD monitor/TV that's for sale at the mall here for $950.

I need a new computer before I step up. I'm running these two off of a laptop video card with one digital and one analog plug in a docking station. My next step is a desktop with two 512mb Nvidia cards in SLI, that's 4 digital outs. With that, I'll do a setup like the guy above. The 32" in the middle, with my 19"s on either side.

...can't wait.

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16889107008

759.00

If you drop down to the 27" its only 649.00

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16889107005

I really through about doing dual 27"s. Maybe quads, but Id of had to redo my desk quite a bit for that.

i have an 8 port iogear kvm in another room hooked up to 8 dualcore 3.4s and using the iogear kvm consol extender - up to 500ft away connected on cat5e, works flawless - only complaint is no dvi yet but for the purpose of what i do (rendering vids on the 8 machines) its perfect.

Yes thats basically exactly what im doing my only problem is I want to use DVI at least for my main machine. The other problem is I prefer usb mouse and keyboard. So what Ill probably do is use a seperate keyboard and mouse for the other machines. Ill take a look at iogear and see. I like the cat5e option. Will make for much cheaper cable costs. Monitors are going to be about 12 to 15 feet away from 4 of the boxes.

It is. I was a bit buggy for awhile when I used just wireless for the laptop, but pretty rock solid since I ran some cat5 to it. takes a bit to get setup properly, but once you get it, it is tits.

I have water cooling in my system. It's an AMD64 3800+ X2 (dual core) with a stock speed of 2.0ghz per core, and I've got it jacked up to 2.6ghz per core, and it runs at a chilly 34C under full load and about 46C under 100% load. I love it.

Once your file is uploaded you can just glanced over and see it is and pick another, or fill in the description etc... play games while you monitor business in the other one(or two).... 3 maybe a bit much, if you can afford it, then good on you. Two monitors is almost a must though nowadays, if you can't task like a mad man, then the next guy will as he is leaving you in his dust!
I use a 20" and a 24" and I still run out of real estate. I will be buying another 24" soon.

Does it make things faster? Hell yes! I can have a style sheet, the page loading it and the browser of the page loading it all open at once with photoshop in the background to tweak the background of the page to suit the spacing in the style sheet while having my color copier (eyedropper) around with ICQ open to two different partners and another screen open to access the shell on the server the site is on...

Takes about 1/5th the time to get shit done as it did when I used to play pong with the task bar. Anyone who has ever been to my pad and seen it and watched me use it and then got a second monitor (even if it was 2 17"'s) said they increased their productivety 2 fold minimum and can't believe they used to use only one.

What's the vid car needed to handle this?

Can you tell me how do you suppose to speed up or improve your work by adding another monitor? After all, we have just 2 eyes, and both eyes always look at the same direction. So, if you are not pointing to one monitor, you are looking at the other. Only one at a time.

In those pictures I am seeing they use 1 monitor for playing and the other for business.
I will quote myself...

Add to this 2 or 3 metapads (notepad clone) open to keep track of notes or store something I will come back to or whatever. And excel open to pull apart some FHG info I plan to import somewhere...

To you sir I will say this:

You know when you haven't used Photoshop for 5 minutes and now you have to go back to it so you click on it in the task bar and windows reads it from the paging file and displays it 5 seconds later? I already saved and uploaded that file and moved on to the next task.

You know when you need to go back through untitled notepad sections (that have been grouped) in the task bar looking for the one that has the PHP code you were going to use? I already had the window open on the other monitor, cut and paste it and uploaded that too.. I am on to the next task.

You know that info in the big spread sheet you need to grab and cut and paste but keep having to go back to the task bar to put dream weavers window in the forground and then go back to excel and back and forth? Well that time you are spending waiting for the window to open and the time it takes to click the task bar and go back to the area the text is in is all adding up... After 30 minutes of this I kissed your ass goodbye about 20 minutes ago because I was just moving window to window...
