I wasn't happy with being morbidly obese (I got up to almost 370 pounds around 5 years ago) so I went on a strict diet/exercise plan, got down to about 240 and I'm about within that range (250 or so now). I'm pretty fucking happy at this weight for my height (6'3").

I'll have to disagree to a degree. Sometimes being fat IS a choice. Not all fat people have glandular issues or genetic defects. Some people just get lazy, keep eating to fill a void(or whatever other excuse) and get no real excersize. Being against fat people that are fat simply because their lazy is a-ok in my book.

On the subject of hate crimes, I disagree with the policy in general. Any crime done unto others, regardless or religion, race, etc, is a hate crime. Doesn't matter why something was done, but what was done, imho.

There's some disease or gland thing that seems more predominant in women, I can't think of the name and can't find it either, that supposedly does something to impede weight loss. There's a few GFYers that have brought it up several times and I'm sure one will in this thread.

Coincidentally, the few obese people I know seem to think they have this disease. Of course it couldn't be from the lack of exercise, over-eating, bad eating, and over drinking they do.

as i said, there are a variety of reasons why it can be harder to lose weight and maintain weight for people. its not easy for anyone really except for that 10% or whatever number of people there is that have a metabolism so high they just eat what they want.

however... if your body requires 2000 calories to maintain itself through the day and you eat 2000 calories (assumes balanced meals - not a 1/2 pound of bacon once a day) ... then you simply cant gain weight.

i am not trying to argue .. dont take this the wrong way. i think the simple point is being missed that its largely a math formula with a small degree of individuality... obesity is not a genetic program coded in ones DNA that condemns them at birth to weigh 400 pounds at 35 yrs old. you can only gain fat by having a surplus of calories at the end of the day. calling it a "disease" and telling people its not their fault is the same to me as telling people to kill themselves.

I've had it on both sides... The lazy fucks and the people with genetic disorders/abnormalies. Granted that I'm a huge bliever in anything set their mind to, but some of these people are/feel hopeless. I'm 26, weigh 155 and have never spent one day in the gym after high school myself.

PCOS or polycystic ovarian syndrome (Stein-Leventhal syndrome)? It affects the hormones, the metabolism and one of the symptoms is insulin resistance (in some women, all have various symptoms).

I know women who do 1,300 calories a day, exercise 60 minutes a day and still can't lose weight or lose a pound a week at the most.

I've also seen women eat fried mozzarella sticks as an appetizer, eat an entire pizza (or thereabouts) with garlic bread at a meal and then wonder why they can't lose weight.
