I paid $700 for a 32 LCD .. SO a 40 for $900 seems pretty good to me but I'm sure someone here can give you a much more detailed answer

The HDTV ready is the only thing that I don't like about it, means it has no HD-tuner. But if you are using devices that have tunes in them it won't be an issue. Only issue other than that is it's '1024x1024' resolution, it couldn't possibly be true 1080i (1920x1080 resolution). Price seems pretty fucking solid, regardless.

With the HD thing, if I am watching a channel that is broadcast in HD the it won't display as true HD?

Not if your device (say satellite receiver) isn't an HD-device. Most devices with component or better hookups do have HD tuners, but definitely not all. Double check first that your receiver has a HD tuner in it.

If you're going through cable or satellite, its an extra $5-10 a month for the HD service, which includes a tuner.

If you're going through antenna for the basic broadcast channels (total waste of HD, IMO), then yes, an actual tuner will be needed.

Not really.
Shitty colors, not built in HD tuners, no HDMI(most HDCP compliant dvd's players, etc use HDMI, you'll need a dvi to hdmi converter most likely), low contrast, no digital audio outputs, etc......
For $500-600 you could get a much much better plasma.

Right, which is what I said in fewer words. Because words lead to books and books are for fags. :|

Waste of HD?
OTA HD broadcasts have some of the highest bandwidth through put currently. Sat and cable companies lower bitrates and resolutions(1440x1080) to save on bandwidth. Both directtv and dish do this with all their HD channels aswell as most cable companies.

Getting only the network channels as opposed to getting channels like ESPN, TNT, Discovery, and HBO... yes, a waste. :-)

Yeah for those you got to pay extra, but if you watch any of the local HD channels it's best to get them OTA then through your cable/sat company in most cases.

1080p is 1920x1080

I would save your money, they ran some killer deals at Frys/Bestbuy over this last weekend on Panasonic 42/50" and I would wait and get one of those.

I have been wanting the Pioneer Elite 50" 1080p plasma but I really don't want to spend $9500.

And personally for me I?m waiting for SED TV?s before I get a better TV. For now I have a Hitachi 51? HDTV Projection CRT and I couldn?t be happier with it. I don?t like how LCD and Plasma screens look; when SED screens come out I?ll be just as happy as an Iraqi civilian getting a free taco on Wednesday.

Do you need a plasma TV or you just wanting to get one because its cool or you can hang it on a wall?

Plasma is not all that any more, once upon a time it had a great picture, now its just an ok picture compared to some of the new technology on the market.

I have the Samsung 61 DLP HDTV, when I was shopping I went in to get a plasma, but left with the DLP instead, picture was way better in my opinion, its also 1080P.. best picture I have ever seen on a TV... I have zero complaints

whats the brand? thats a good deal if you want to put it on the wall and have it look nice, but youre going to get much better pictures with both DLP and (especially) the SXRDs from Sony. And like notabook said above, it sounds like once SEDs come out (probably not for at least a year) they will set the standard for picture quality.

You can do better. That isn't even an HD resolution. You can get 1080p LCDs for only a tad more. I doubt you are super concerned with things like black levels etc. I'd keep looking.

Some of the tv's over here are stupidly priced aswell. At the end of the day, it's the same shit you're watching anyway...
