Understanding the product you're selling.

Saw a post on another board and it was not from a clueless newbie, he might be clueless though , and it made me think. How many really understand the product they are trying to sell?

You might understand the delivery method and how to load it up, but how many truly understand what they're selling?

His point was he wants sites with exclusive models and sites without saturated content.

It's possible to get an exclusive model. By paying her a lot of money. A decent looking model who will convert traffic can earn $50,000 a year in this business. Add on the cost of shooting her and you're looking at a very big content bill.

Yes you can sign up a model on an exclusive rev share deal, but she will own you unless you can keep paying her and her boyfriend or you find the 1 girl in 100 who will work for peanuts while you spread pictures of her naked across the Internet.

If a niche has 50 sites, with different site owners, and we sell a set to 20% of them then that set is saturated. If there are 500 sites and we sell to 50 of them we have barely scratched the surface and made a lot of money. Now go figure why good shooters shoot for the same money as 5-10 sales. Seems they don't want to make any money or it's a bit tougher to saturate content.

If you disagree with that, tell me how we sell a set to 10 sites in a niche with 2,000 sites and it gets saturated. Also explain why so many people are buying content on a continuous basis when it's not working and their sites are not working.

And lastly. If you want all these things, please don't tell us that "Top Dollars" supplies it. Because the top 20 companies can do it does not mean everyone else can and if you want to narrow down your choice of sites to promote you have to realise what others can deliver. The top programs love it when you ask for what they can afford to give out.

I think taking pictures of girls with big smiles as they are getting fucked is completely not understanding the market. But, that's just my opinion.

Because when you have a lot of people trying to sell a product they do not understand you run the risk of losing the customers trust, respect and sales. You end up with a situation of 1000 people looking and 1 person buying.

And we would hate this industry to get to that situation wouldn't we.

Of course if your business model is a lot people driving a lot more people in the hope that someone will buy something then I can see how you would see things differently.

Placing the head of a penis inside a model's vagina for a perfectly posed shot is "getting fucked" ?

Maybe I'm horribly inexperienced, but I've never known a girl's temperature, complexion and sweat level to stay normal when she's being fucked!

Did you ever think aico might not know what happens to a girl when she's having sex?

Or that the girls "temperature, complexion and sweat level" only rise as she pockets the money he leaves her?

Do you seriously imagine that anyone who is successful has any real secrets from others who understand the field in which they operate? The reality is that you could post a blueprint for your business on the internet and doing so would not dent your income by a cent, nor make many others rich.

Few if any business models are technically complex or especially innovative. One company succeeds while another fails, because of differences in vision or philosophy and the way they are applied. Every single bit of knowledge anyone needs to be successful is right out there in the public domain, but most are content to produce poor copies of what they see someone else doing, instead of taking the trouble to learn and understand for themselves.

...a comment which demonstrates very well that understanding the product you sell is not important, but understanding your market is. You likely would not target Paul's pictures at the same audience you might Nubiles' content (for example), but to fail to recognize that there is a market for them, is, well sad.

Online porn, with some honorable exceptions, works on the principle of one size fits all. We pay some lip service to the concept that different strokes suit different folks, by talking about categories and niches. But by and large we make no distinction between different parts of our potential audience. Horny late teens or dirty old men; educated or trailer trash: they all get the same.

As a result, success in this business is largely achieved by throwing enough raw numbers at products and living off the tiny proportion to whom we actually sell something. Our efforts at growth focus on making those raw numbers bigger or on tweaks intended to appeal to those to whom we already appeal. There is little evidence we think at all about why we fail to sell to 799 out of 800 (or whatever).

Which is maybe not the smartest way to work, when it could be easier to make 1 more sale to the 800 visitors you already have, than to have to find 800 more.

Hey Paul, look at the 10 girls on my site and try to find one of them on any other site in the world? Well without them breaking the law and stealing my content that is. All under contract. The more they do the more they make. Most are happy with what they have done and will accept the part they get from time to time from sales other then the pay site. I don't think people care. I even thought about selling it all and no one really cares that the models are 100% exclusive. I guess they figure it can be pulled off and it does.

Good post as always. What so many here think is porn is like programing and can be done like a "Paint by numbers" exercise. Get x amount of content, y number of affiliates, z traffic and it all falls into place. Porn never was like that and never will be, thankfully.

If I move the market up a bit I educate the affiliate and surfer a bit more and cut out some competition. Because most here will never learn.

made2ordervideos I never said it could not be done, just that it's not easy. OK your business relies on your ability to keep 10 porn models happy. Mind if I don't think that's a sound business plan.

Another great post. The crazy part is many here dream about selling to one in 800.

Ask them how to achieve more sales and they will tell you throw more traffic at it. Few will say get more sales from the existing traffic they have.

People using the same format and method to double traffic and then wondering why they have not doubled sales. What they did was ignore the product and market in the expense of the traffic.

The problem is most don't understand the product and market, yet do understand the webmaster and traffic. There are exceptions and if you look at them they are doing fairly well. Some have realised if you can deliver a product that sells you let others who know about traffic deliver it.

Yes you will lose out a lot of webmasters who demand every whizz bang tool for free, 24 hour support, a party at every show, their asses kissed on boards. But the guys in this who want to make real money send traffic to where they make the most money.
