I think it's a nice idea. Now when they start selling a product I can buy, call me back.

The company is not new, they changed their name recently that's all.
High bandwidth with satellites means no more than 50 kb/s and expect to may no less than $1/minute, if they ever get of the ground.

Did these opinions come out of deep left field or do you have some info we don't know about?

Go to Bill Gates page, you'll notice that the company is already his... and I'm not kidding.

According to there site:

Network Access Speeds
The Teledesic Network will use a constellation of non-geostationary satellites to provide global access to a wide range of data, voice and video communication capabilities. A variety of user terminals accommodate "on-demand" single channel rates from 128 kbps up to 100 Mbps on the uplink and up to 720 Mbps on the downlink.

And:

Using advanced satellite technology, Teledesic and its partners are creating a communications network that will enable cost-effective access to telecommunications services such as computer networking, broadband Internet access, interactive multimedia and high-quality voice. The Teledesic Network is designed to meet the broadband needs of government, business, non-profit organizations, and individuals on a global basis. Teledesic is a private company based in Bellevue, Washington, a suburb of Seattle.

Thats true for now.. But with a company that will go live in 3 more years, they probably have developed a way to fix that
