:2cents Less Than Zero

I caught this on some channel tonight on TV while surfing.

Wow. 1987... 20 years. Makes me feel old.

In hindsight, I am not sure which is worse. Feeling old, or watching this movie now, and thinking back to all of the people I've known, and lost to drugs, among other things over that 20 years.

Maybe it's when I run into old high school people, and those old 'cools' and see, ro hear what their life's become in those 20 years since. How for them high school was 'the best time of their life'.

How sad their life was over at 18...

It's a good movie. Supposedly the book's better (tends to be the case most of the time). The movie's from back in the "brat pack" days of the 80's.

I never watched the movie, but read the book.

Pretty decent. Written by the same guy who wrote "American Psycho," which is still probably the most disturbing book of fiction I've ever read.

This movie (Less Than Zero) is probably one of my favorites from the late 80's....

Weird Science, Breakfast Club, Sixteen Candles, Pretty In Pink, Can't Buy Me Love..

I like, and watch, all those classics a few times a year. Have them all on disk.

It brings back some nostalgia growing up back then. The original 'teen angst' classics.

Oops.. .forgot one. 'Some Kind of Wonderful'

Bought that about a month back for $5. Man that was a good movie, and still is a good watch. How many of you jumped back when Andrew McCarthy opened the door....dayum that was some shit.

I thought that movie was awesome for it's time. When Robert Downey Jr. starts sucking cock to support his drug habit, that was "shocking" that people would sink that low. 20 years.. Wow.. I can't believe it's been that long.

Read Glamorama, also by Brett Easton Ellis. It is crazy, engrossing and clever!

I love Ellis and have read all his books, but just couldn't get through that one. Having 3 pages of him listing all the people that are at a party is cool when it happens a few times, but when it seems like 30% of the book is that it just started to annoy me. His newest book really is cool though and I loved his others.

I need to watch it again. I saw it first came on cable but I think I was too young to get it. I remember it feeling edgy at that age but with the two guys from Pretty In Pink (thought process at that age).

The film bombed and was a career-killer for Andrew McCarthy and Jamie Gertz, at least as far as "leading" roles go. They were both awful, while Downey saved the ship from completely drowning.

It almost looked like a bad attempt at Michael Mann-ing a film: All style, no substance (whereas Mann's movies have style *and* substance).

Great movie. The part where Robert Downey Jr. was caught sucking off the guy because he owed money from drugs was a vision that sticks in my mind even to this day.

I agree somewhat here. The movie does manage to capture a lot of the 80's as I remember it back then. The fashion, drugs, and music.

However, I don't agree with the substance part of the movie. Less Than Zero focuses on the richies, lifestyle, and drugs. Losing it all. Nor are "all" Michael Mann movies have the substance...

can you say Miami Vice (the movie)? I'm still trying to figure that piece of shit out.
