Why do people want to live on a golf course?

i spent the day looking for vacation home rentals and they make out like it's a good thing to have a golf fairway in your backyard. why if you have enough money for a nice home or vacation home would you want drunk middle aged and old men dressed badly walking by your backyard all day long not to mention golf balls flying into your house? I understand people who love golf wanting to live in a golf course community where they are a short walk or cart ride to the course but backing onto a golf course seems really dumb.

A good golf course property has enough distance that stray golfers are not a problem. Overcrowding usually means a shitty course and no privacy.

the average age of a golf course home owner is about 76 - i don't think they are running around at night screwing on the golf greens.

you would be suprised.... when i lived in PA we lived within walking distance of a golf course and in 8th grade we used to go into the woods and pick up balls and we would see plenty of people that were in the 30s to 50s digging for balls too..

I never really understood it either.I'm sure they can't just walk on and start a game? The homes are probably just as expensive.

My grandparents lived by a golf course and I used to that almost every weekend when I was from like 8 to 11 or so. They lived right on the 13th hole. Was easy to sell them to golfers walking through there.

When Tanker lived in Phoenix his house was up along a golf course and it was funny as hell. Drunken people would come up to us and talk to us while we were in the pool.....

I lived in a golf course community for about 17 years and I've never once played a round of golf on the course...

I did, however, smoke weed and wander around on it with my friends back in my high school days in the middle of the night on several occasions. And I've also snuck on the course in the middle of the night a few times to practise putting on the green. Good times

I have no idea. My brother lives on the 8th fairway of a really tight course. By tight I mean the fairways are long and narrow with not much room for error. Anyways he gets about 15 balls a week on his roof and a ton more in his pool. In fact about 4 years ago or so we were having a bbq at his place and a friend of mine was lounging in the pool. I kid you not, some idiot sliced 3 in a row and all 3 landed in the pool. Of course he didn't yell fore or give any type of warning. One came within inches of my friend who got irate and nearly jumped the fence when these idiots came looking for their balls. He tried putting a net up after that but the hoa made him take it down.

We were looking at houses on a golf course here... The backyards opened up onto the fairway, sure, but there was a tree barrier as well and the fairway was far enough off that it wouldn't be a big deal (not any worse than say having people walking in front of your house or side by side backyards with your neighbor). Having a driving range plus course and country club within a 5 minute walk or 1 minute drive would more than make up for it.)

I dont have the patients to be a scratch golfer. A good round for me is 82, an average round is 86 and when I self destruct Im in the 90's. I used to golf 10-15 times per month a few years ago but I've lost interest lately.

Homes on golf courses also do very well in all types of property market, so owning one even if you dont play makes sound business sense.

a few people come out at 5pm and practice by walking the 3 or 4 holes near their house. Most of the houses will never get hit but some are in a spot that get hit every damn day LOL, I remember when I first started playing. I would swing as hard as I could, Who cares where the ball went as long as it was out of site hhaha. Now I swing easy and smoke one down the middle but it still gets the best of me and I will let loose and rip a kidney in half trying to drive a 400 yard par four LOL, one of these days when I do drive a 400 yard par four I will three putt it anyway but who cares I drove the green right

people have shorter life expectancy when living near a golf course because of the pesticides and fertilizers used

The Bear's Club is the place to be.

http://www.thebearsclubrealty.com/homes.asp

Those are the best, but if the tube sites have been killing your ratios you may have to settle for just a club villa instead.

I'm betting most people do it because of perceived status. Personally, I don't see the point of living directly on a golf course unless you're an insanely avid pro-level golfer with a daily t-time.

My aunt has a house in Austin in a golfing community. The houses and property are all within walking distance but not actually directly adjacent to/facing the golf course. Much better that way IMO.

Nothing like waking up in the morning to find some other guys balls in your backyard.

I got a hole in 1 on the 9th, but I was aiming for the 12th. :D

I'm safely behind the tee looking down the fairway - nice 180yd par 3

And yes, you can have fun on a golf course in the day:
