He has zero chance of winning as a republican.

If he runs as an indy and gets close to winning I predict that he will have one of those "airplane accidents".

I actually saw Ron Paul signs and a couple cars with Ron Paul bumper stickers for the first time this week. The media is very scared of this guy as you might notice he gets 0% coverage. Typical.

They aren't "scared" they are just owned by the other parties.

Ron Paul would like to abolish the IRS, abolish the FED, and go back to the gold standard. That might sound good on paper, but anybody with even a rudimentary understanding of how our ecomony works would know the devestating consequences.

I like the guy and all and would vote for him if there was a slim chance his name showed up on a ballot but does anyone in their right mind think he'd be able to change anything? I guess I'm asking for GFY to explain how the US political system works, because I don't understand it anymore.

As far as I can tell, it's bad-ass lobby groups running the show with even badder-ass corporations behind them. Plain and simple. Not much different than a theocracy, though just switch "god" with "monetary value" of some sort and there you have it = US government.

Maybe I'm just jaded right now, so apologies on my post.

He's hands down the best candidate for an industry that has suffered enough at the hands of the government overstepping its bounds.

I'll take any Republican. However, Mike Huckabee really stole the show at the debate. I think I have a new favorite. It would be great for our country to dismantle the IRS.

You know.. If he puts the power back to the states/people, porn will be illegal in most states/cities online-offline, shipping, stores, ect..

We had to have federal protection from the state & people.

He doesn't support Roe v Wade - AT ALL and by giving the power back to the states abortion will become illegal again in most states.

I support a womans right to choose, but understand the need for regulation. Something the State level has already proven it can't do.

Americans aren't liberal enough. They are prude, Christians, that sin and hate it so much and they are told it is so bad, that even though they use porn and view it - they will vote it out. The worst people against smoking are x-smokers.

And Poor Texans man.. How fucked up would that state get.

I'm kinda afraid to give the power back to the people.

Prob good-intentioned man, prob an honorable man, a number of original thoughts, but totally impractical in suggestions he is making on the campaign trail.

It is vital that economic issues are addressed by whoever ends up in office and sadly can't see one person showing any ability to do this from either party. The candidates from the current party in power, tho some good comments have been made, are, as a group, a disgrace and have demonstated no ability in any form.

Despite that, got respect for a number of candidates and they are prob honorable people - but verbal on a campaign trail can make it difficult to see under the skin.

This is very similar to a boardroom - 60% are total wankers and incapable of boiling an egg, but may be nice people on a personal level. However, like companies, no nation can support baggage and at this time the US needs seriously strong management - not strong in their ability to emit rhetoric, but actually address priority issues and produce verifiable results.

Got no time for wanker corp directors or politicians and hope the US electorate choses wisely and the electorate turn-out is substantially more than it has been in the recent past.

You people need to open your eyes...

The U.S. House of Representatives on Wednesday overwhelmingly approved a bill saying that anyone offering an open Wi-Fi connection to the public must report illegal images including "obscene" cartoons and drawings--or face fines of up to $300,000.

The Securing Adolescents From Exploitation-Online Act, or SAFE Act--will "ensure better reporting, investigation, and prosecution of those who use the Internet to distribute images of illegal child pornography."

Only 1 or two people opposed this bill - guess who it was? Yeah, Ron Paul.

Ron Paul has old school (constitutional) ideas like abolishing the Fed (The country was fine without a Fed from 1776 - 1913) and going back to the gold standard, but, he realizes many of these things could not be achieved without the full approval of the Congress and the American people. Any big changes would be done over a long period of time like introducing a parallel, sound currency based on something like gold.

Lets not forget that everyones hero Mr. Alan Greenspan, in 1966 wrote his most important paper, "Gold and Economic Freedom" where he strictly defends the importance of a gold standard and outlines the dangers of a paper system. Or maybe we should reflect back on the Great Depression, which the Federal Reserve was designed to prevent ... and did next to NOTHING?

Still think I'm full of shit? Maybe the words of these great men might change your mind ?

In the absence of the gold standard, there is no way to protect savings from confiscation through inflation. There is no safe store of value.
- Alan Greenspan

I sincerely believe... that banking establishments are more dangerous than standing armies, and that the principle of spending money to be paid by posterity under the name of funding is but swindling futurity on a large scale. --Thomas Jefferson to John Taylor, 1816

The trifling economy of paper, as a cheaper medium, or its convenience for transmission, weighs nothing in opposition to the advantages of the precious metals... it is liable to be abused, has been, is, and forever will be abused, in every country in which it is permitted.
--Thomas Jefferson

If Congress has the right under the Constitution to issue paper money, it was given to them to be used by themselves, not to be delegated to individuals or corporations.
- President Andrew Jackson

All the perplexities, confusion and distress in America arise, not from defects in their Constitution or Confederation, not from want of honor or virtue, so much as from the downright ignorance of the nature of coin, credit and circulation.
- John Adams

Now, I will say the gold standard is not a perfect system either. But this irresponsible, runaway spending under the fiat system that has been going on is a far greater threat. Ron Paul and his views are not perfect either, but obviously some drastic changes need to be made in Washington.

anybody with a rudimentary understanding of economics knows that a debt based currency results in inflation on an exponentially increasing curve, which is completely unsustainable, and we're starting to get to the part where it ramps up.

I see there's some misinformed people in this thread.

Ron Paul, without a doubt, is the ONLY person running who will keep the government out of our lives. A lot of people are catching on - I've supported Ron Paul from the get-go & remember getting excited to hear he raised $100,000 bucks in a month - he's doing that DAILY now.

He has support, people. He can EASILY win. He is the only person running who's worthy of the title "Mr. President", in my honest opinion.

But then again, I live by the philosophy "live & let live" - I don't give a fuck what anyone does in their own home, & I see no reason why any of you should either.

Americans are becoming a lot "less" blind - sure, there's a lot of idiots out there, but the idiots are usually too concerned with the next episode of MTV cribs to worry about voting. ;)
