i read an interesting article that basically said you guys in the US already have cloned animals in your food chain. A lot of breeders spent a lot of money on cloning before your FTC banned cloned meat from entering the food chain.

Also it outlined how a lot of cloned animals are much more succeptible to cancers etc...

cloned meat is still meat, so who really gives a fuck?

if it weren't for hellbent christian right wingers holding back research into cloning and stem cell research the things we could achieve within a short period of time would be mind boggling...

It would take some major social change in the UK for it to be allowed here. Heck, if you don't buy organic everything the media treats you as if you are evil.

Actually I will not be eating any cloned beef, lamb, hogs, or chickens as I am one of the very few that I know that still buy their meat on the hoof when they are old enough to sell and I get my chickens from the same dude I get my eggs from as needed. Never been frozen, no antibiotics and all with very large group cages to scratch in and live like a proper chicken. Actually most are amazed when they see my raw chickens and see how orange they are (mostly corn diet, though eek they could be eating cloned corn).

Each year I purchase a steer, two hogs, and a lamb in advance and have the farmer raise them. Not only is this a much cheaper route I know where my food came from, whats been injected in it or what the results of any vet visits were, and what they have been eating. Plus I am not cheating myself as the butcher I have will gladly butcher and package all the meat as I want it and even dry age any portions of the beef I want as well.

Now I could just buy them when they are ready to go to the butcher but that often costs more as you are either competing with other buyers or its at some county fair and the auctions go way to high per pound to reward the kid farmers.

Guess what I am saying is you can live with buy it now convenience and concern yourself with FDA rules in regards to hormones, cloning, and all of that which I really do not see as an issue aside from the overuse of antibiotics. Then of course you have the option of buying meat as I do from someone you know and know more about your food than most ever would consider.

I also buy a few local cheeses but not all of them from local producers, one farm makes a great variety of goats milk cheese and another farmer has some outstanding buffalo mozzarella that is almost to die for along with the best ricotta I have ever had. I occasionally also get some cream and milk from them but in reality that is just to out of the way to do that full time so I only pick that up when I am buying some cheeses and the rest of the time it comes from the grocery store. Also there is another farmer who is starting to specialize in Cheddars but is not fully ready yet, I hope to give him a try come spring.

Along with the assorted seasonal vegetable growers around here and the recent paranoia about the food supply I really think their could be a good business in a food order/delivery business with all this stuff. However with the current economy and the fact that people are actually ok buying food from wal mart I am not sure if I would ever invest in such an activity.

After Shock, that is an awesome way to live. Congrats on being able to eat like humans are meant to, not buying meat in sanitized shrink wrap.

Good work.

i grew up on a farm and as far as i'm concerned this is the only way to eat meat. the difference in money spent on butchering your own meat is huge and you know what your animals have been fed. the price people pay for meat in the market is fucking ridiculous. if you up it a notch further and know how to make your own cuts and can cut the butcher out, you're even further off. i grew up on a beef farm, and hunting. i just can't justify buying meat at the grocery store. it's retarded. i however don't think all cloning is a bad thing. it needs to be done properly obviously, but i don't see there being a significant health risk from consuming cloned animals.

Nah fuck raising them and butchering them myself. Tried it for awhile with both chickens and rabbits. Chickens are noisey, they smell, and are as hard as fuck to defeather. Then when you kill rabbits you have the cops called on you to often cause they scream like women getting assualted.
Oh and I did raise and butcher or helped butcher a pig once, fuck that ever again. The wrenching it up by its hind legs after I shot it was not bad, nor was the slitting of the throat to bleed it. Yet fuck nobody told me about the giant vat of hot water that was envolved.
Plus I do not live on a farm and honestly I also do not have a flash freezer. Though I do have plenty of space to grow veggies and I do raise a lot of worms.

You are already eating cloned vegetables and genetically altered food crops. That is where they started and have been playing around at for a long ass time. And no I am not talking just cross breeding or selective breeding either.

When was the last time you asked your organic (loose word in the US with FDA guidelines on what can be called organic anyways) produce person if that soybean or that corn has been bio engineered?

Odds are soon certain places will have only 1 steer they serve. Lets say they find the perfect kobe steer and the chef and customers love the shit out of that meat. Well for now on you can have that exact same steak every single time you go and it will be identical as long as the chef does not fuck up.

I'll pass. 20 years from now they will come back and say "we didn't know cloned meat could give you colon cancer."

You did not read right. He said we would all be eating cloned meat.

I can't wait till they can just grow a giant chunk of the world's greatest beef in a tank. No entire cows, just slabs of delicious flesh.

Though I do have plenty of space to grow veggies and I do raise a lot of worms.
to take a pig to butcher isn't all that expensive until you get the bacon and hams cured, but then again it really isn't all that hard to smoke your own meats either. i usually just take my pork into the butcher. a butcher sized pig isn't all that expensive to buy and getting it cut isn't either. it's still way way cheaper than going to the grocers. i can agree with you on the cleaning birds, that's one thing i fucking hate doing. we always just buy our chickens and turkeys from the hutterite colony. big plump healthy birds at about half the grocers market price. but rabbits, well rabbits are easy, you can clean a rabbit with your bare hands if you're animal enough. and cutting up large game or beef/pork never bothered me. i also have alot of hillbilly assed friends. so cleaning an animal is often a good excuse to get hammered with a couple of buddies...
