Is cherry beer a girlie drink too far?

I usually can't stand beer but my bf just had me try a cherry flavored beer from a collection of stuff be brought back from a biz trip to Belgium. I must say it is rather nice. Good way to get girls drunk

yea, it's pretty good, but not something I would drink regularly, they fuck you hard on imported exotic beers like that here at bars... $9/bottle or something...

Kriek.

Yeah... Lambics are good stuff. Lindeman's is probably the easiest to get, but I'm partial to Boone (pronounced "bone") myself...

I love lambics. There are also many other flavors, such as: Peche (Peach), Framboise (Raspberry), Currant, Pomme (Green Apple), and Gouze (no fruit flavoring - just the sour/tart beer).

When people tell me "I don't like beer," I've often given them a Lambic of one form or another, and that typically changes their mind in a snap.

I'm certainly of the mind that there's no such a thing as people who don't like beer - only people who haven't tried the right beer for them.

Belgium is just a day trip so you can just load it up in the back of the car and bring it back without duty if it is within reasonable quantities.

We are getting married in July and part of this run was to cut down on the booze cost for the reception and get stuff from there cheaper than in the UK.

Ahh... St. Louis Kriek, from Brouwerij Van Honsebrouck, Ingelmunster.

Yeah... Lambic is a definitive Belgian style.

Originally, a lot of them were brewed using "spontaneous fermentation," where the yeast was not applied to the beer directly, but, instead, the fermenting vessels were open-air containers... and they'd open up the roof so that natural yeast would fall down on the wort (unfermented beer), and kick off the brewing process.

Now-a-days, with the understanding of microbiology that we have, that style of fermentation is practiced in far fewer breweries than it once was.

Bellevue Kriek is the one you can get around here, and thankfully some of the nicer bars happen to have it in stock. It's pretty good stuff, and not "girly" in any sense, it's just a different kind of beer, and not to mention way older than anything (yes older than McCain even).
