Paid content's greatest enemy

Some food for though in regards to the future of paid content:

North America

Quote:
?HTTP traffic accounts for 46 percent of all broadband traffic. P2P applications now account for only 37 percent. Chalk it up to YouTube and other Internet video sharing sites. The surge in HTTP traffic is largely a surge in the use of streaming media, mostly video?

?Cisco Estimate of North American Internet Traffic, 2007 - P2P 28.5%?

Europe
http://www.ipoque.com/news_&_events/...net_study_2007

Quote:
?P2P traffic is responsible for 50%-90% of all Internet traffic which means that BitTorrent traffic is generating somewhere between 25% and 65% of all Internet traffic.?
Quote:
?The P2P content analysis revealed little changes compared to last year's study. Videos make up the largest proportion. The most popular titles are current movies, pornography and music.?
Quote:
?The amount of P2P has increased proportionally with the overall Internet traffic. P2P has still grown, but different from last year, it did not outperform the overall traffic growth. Instead, some file sharers are turning to alternative services such as DDL instead.?

Maybe someone will enlighten us, the movie industry and the music industry how 'free' will make more money than paid content. No wonder the big studios don't want to put their stuff up online DRM free.

Well all the piracy works for the Advertising companies, I doubt much really goes to the artists.

It seems now a days most things are made for the advertising value and creative merit is an afterthought.
Look at the Writers strike as of recent.
The broadcasting companies are happy with the the "FREE" distribution and digitized content. Internet distribution easily clouds where the money goes and most of it goes out of the artists pockets.

YouTube and P2P to a degree have larger agreements with companies like Viacom that generate revenue for advertising dollars. You tie down the 3 largest ISP's and follow the trail and it leads back companies like Viacom.
