Hmm. I tolerate 80s, because it's familiar. Finding Van Halen's 90s shit on the oldies station annoyed the hell out of me. I had a pair of parachute pants in middle school. I wore then twice. Everybody else continued to, so they got 'pantsed'.

The combination of leggings/spandex, good girl looks, and whore makeup was awesome.

One of the greatest metal/rock bands ever!!!

I've seen the Scorpions live at eight different shows over the years...including the concert that the Tokyo Tapes album was recorded at.

I also caught the Scorpions the next year in Japan too (the Japanese love that they include a Japanese folk song, "Kojo no Tsuki" in their playlist). Video from that show is included here:

One of my favorite Scorpions shows was at the US Festival (a 3-day show featuring dozens of bands, such as the Clash, Van Halen, and David Bowie). The Scorpions played in front of 400,000 people on Heavy Metal Day:

Damn...I pulled up a clip of the Scorpions playing "No One Like You" from the US Festival, and it was awesome!!!

Bands that had already played before the audience of 400,000 that day, included sets by Quiet Riot, Mötley Crüe, Ozzy Osbourne, Judas Priest, and Triumph.

The Scorpions were followed by Van Halen - keep in mind, the music was nearly non-stop for 12 hours...and the cost was $20 per ticket (I got in free because I was working for a radio station).

The band came onstage just after sunset. As they took the stage a group of airplanes did a fly over with colored smoke trailing behind them. Well, you'll see:

Musical taste is a subjective thing, however from a musicians perspective, on a strictly musical composition and artistry level, both U2 and Red Hot Chili Peppers have crafted a significant and diverse amount of finely crafted music within their genre.

Their live performances are equally impressive...

I had the honor of being a part of the promotions group at my University that presented U2 at a free mid-day concert during their first U.S. concert tour in support of their first album. I knew they were destined to be great. I've seen them at least a dozen times since, and they rocked every time.

Red Hot Chili Peppers is more of an acquired taste, but once you tap into their vibe, you discover that you have found a great meld of rock and funk (pius Flea is one of the most kick ass bassists around, to this day).

Seen RHCP live a bunch of times too...

One of my favorite shows was the one they played at the Tibetan Freedom Concert in Golden Gate Park (a 2 day show featuring a diverse group of bands, such as Beastie Boys, Smashing Pumpkins, Bjork, Rage Against the Machine, Sonic Youth, Beck. and the Fugees).

If you are still awake and feel like tripping, here is live Smashing Pumpkins playing a song that they did at the Tibetan Freedom concert mid-day - I laid on my back looking up at a blue sky with beautiful white clouds, as the band mixed in some Hendrix ("Crosstown Traffic") and Jefferson Airplane ("White Rabbit") jams into the song. Me? I just floated away...
