"I would like to chargeback my membership"

I found the following text in the FAQ of a paysite (there were no faqs about refunds/credits, so probably by chargeback they mean refunds/credits too):

"Question: I would like to chargeback my membership

Answer: CHARGE BACKS AND FRAUD FROM OUR MEMBERS
A billing chargeback will place your name, address, zip code, and
credit card number into an Internet fraud database. ALL INTERNET
CREDIT CARD COMPANIES USE THIS DATABASE. We DO NOT have any control
over this fraud database.

If you chargeback your membership, the billing company WILL add your
information to the ban database. If you get into this database you
will not be able to use that billing company again. It is
impossible to get off the ban lists.

BE SMART! DON'T DESTROY YOUR INTERNET CREDIT BY BEING ADDED TO THIS
LIST AND INVESTIGATED FOR FRAUD!"

...

Is all of this true?

personally, I think that it's just a scare tactic to get people who actually read it not to chargeback.

CCB, BHE, and Verotel (my first hand experience) will black list your e-mail address, and credit card.

You will not be signing up again any time soon toots, and they do not reinstate you.

Well first I thought this could be a gimmick to prevent a customer from charging back, but I'm not sure now. If a customer charges back/refunds the money, this customer is a much higher risk for the processor, and the probability for future chargebacks is higher. And chargebacks/refunds are the biggest problem for processors, right? Not saying anything, just wondering.

If I was a customer, that was charged for a second month (forgot to cancel), and want to refund, and if I read this, I don't think I'll ever join an adult paysite again...

I don't know about the "current" processors but in the past I recall PSW confirming that a chargeback would add the card number to a denied list, which means the customer would no longer be able to complete a transaction through them.

There is probably no internet-wide database, but given there's only a handful of major billers it's pretty much the same thing.

A refund, and a chargeback are two different things.

It's next to impossible to get a refund from CCB. I know I had joined an adult site once, the whole membership section was completely down for a week, and they refused to refund until I canceled at my bank. Then they issued it to prevent the $25 chargeback hit.

Some processors will give you a refund for site issues, didn't get canceled and you can prove it, etc. But if you issue a chargeback, then you will be blacklisted, along with your e-mail, and credit card.

Contact a CCB, or Verotel rep. Either will confirm that chargeback people get blacklisted. I can't speak to the handful of others that are left. But it would seem to be common sense.

For those who want a refund, CCB, or not. Their best bet is to contact the webmaster. Even with CCB, the webmaster can issue a full, or partial refund from their control panel.

With Verotel, I just shoot merchant support an e-mail and they get one. I've done this probably a hundred times with people who sign up twice, and things of that nature. I have done it in a few other incidents, assuming they have cause, or can back up their canceled story.

On refunds, you are not blacklisted to my knowledge. The warning applies to chargebacks.

Indeed.

I thought the same at first, until I read the NEXT paragraph...

Quote:

will not be able to use that billing company again.
It is
impossible to get off the ban lists.
Hence, that statement would be true.

I have asked them this at shows and they will not confirm or deny it as it will get them in the shit with VISA. However card holders who CB are a risk and it would be common sense to deny them in the future.

I will say I have charged back a few purchases via ccbill and have bought other memberships with same card and email. I often will join up to sites to see how they handle everything before I even sign up as an affiliate. Ussually I will ask the site owner for a refund if their shit really stinks and including but not limited to that they promise shit in the tour that is not there, broke members areas, etc.

There is no internet wide shared negative database. As a processor, we do blacklist chargebacked customer data and those of our merchants that choose to use our global database will benefit by having these blocked for their sites as well.

Questions?

I don't know how all this is relevant, especially since I can get a disposable credit card anyways...

Oh and another point: Maybe my kids won't stop stealing my card and charging porn sites to it, so I chargeback and get on the banned lists to prevent my idiot kids from sneaking my card onto a site again...

Not as scary as you might think.

I do not have, nor need to post the links. I've received the answer to your riddle in e-mail(s) from all the companies I have mentioned. If you have that many questions or concerns on it, e-mail their reps here on the board.

When people have done a chargeback on one of my sites, I used to e-mail CCB and Verotel to tell them to blacklist the member who did it. Both have responded on multiple occasions that I no longer need to send e-mails. They are automatically added to the blacklist when they chargeback, or check bounces.

I heard it straight FROM the companies. Which is why I am confident in my post in this thread toots.

Lol@ "your zip code will be placed etc"

How is it that reasonable measures (if you charge back we won't be doing business in the future) always end up drowned in assclownery verbiage (we will have your cat prosecuted for terrorism and your yard carpet bombed).

Ends up making the industry look worse than a petting zoo.

Lots of chargebacks are legit though, like when someone's CC gets stolen. I myself left my wallet in a park once, and by the time I called the credit card company someone had already bought a bunch of porn with it.

So when I told Visa, *they* surely initiated a bunch of chargebacks because of the situation.

We blacklist chargeback customers as well and if you want a certain customer blacklisted from your site all you have to do is ask. We do not block customers who have been refunded unless they have been refunded for fraudulent reasons.

Ok, so there is a blacklist for chargebacks. And legitimate refund users aren't blacklisted. But what is your position for refunds as general. Do you have a list for that. Maybe not a black list, but some ...gray list?

I used to have a note inside the members area, similar to the one in OPs message.

A little simpler and less dramatic but to the effect that CBs would get you blocked from using that processor again (after having checked with the processor that they did indeed blacklist CBs)

12 months later the processor asked me to take it down after a member queried it. Never quite understood that, after all its what they said they'd do in response to a CB.

I think it has been less than 3-4 times over the course of more than a decade. Ussually a refund works fine. Then there is almost a few hundred sites that got a full trial or monthly fee. Fail to see biting hand.

How is it that reasonable measures (if you charge back we won't be doing business in the future) always end up drowned in assclownery verbiage (we will have your cat prosecuted for terrorism and your yard carpet bombed).

Ends up making the industry look worse than a petting zoo.
Have you started to notice nobdy gives two shits about your comments? It must have been that moment when everyone finally realized you were not really a woman.
