Great, a $8,500 slobbery bitch. You could have had a kid with a crack whore for that much cash.
I'd spend that much on a dog. Not on a human, though.

you ignorant fuck it depends on where you get the meat from.. you buy good organic raw meat there are no tape worms.. jeez.. my moms dog is 13yrs old, fed raw since day 1, no health issues at all my cat is 1yr old, eats natures variety raw beef, chicken, lamb, no health issues.. healthy and lean as ever.. why dont you go research raw feeding for animals before you post something dumb.. fact: cats/dogs are not meant to eat biscuits(yes dry food is basically biscuit..) in the wild nobody bakes them cookies, they eat other animals.. dumb fucker for original poster.. take a look here: http://search.onlynaturalpet.com/sea...1-993893fbd3b4 onlynaturalpet is a good website to start from if you want your pet to be healthy.

its my moms dog.. german shepherd. like i said the big pet food manufacturers want u to believe that your dog will get poisoned from eating raw food. BUT if you buy a good brand like natures variety, nothing will happen. My cat's been eating it one year.. my moms dog for a few years.. Carbohydrates/grains in those freaking dog foods are not meant for dogs.. they are used cause they are cheap.. bottom line.. feeding them that shit will let to health problems sooner or later. Which do you think is cheaper? 1lb of grain or 1lb of beef

Here you can read this
http://www.living-foods.com/articles/rawpetfood.html and http://www.shirleys-wellness-cafe.com/animals.htm - I have a holistic vet in Tenafly i take my cat to. He sells only raw food and he actually recommends I feed my cat raw diet. I feed him natures variety raw foods,(they got beef, rabbit, lamb, chicken, etc), and my cat is VERY active, no issues, perfect weight, poop doesnt stink at all, etc.. I know what im talkin about here..

I have three rescued Rottweilers. It's one female in particular that has the problems.
As for your raw diet mumbo jumbo, not really my thing. The dogs get surgery and not acupuncture too. My dogs eat a prescription Fish and Potato diet for skin and coat managment that my sister, a board certified and practicing Veterinarian wants them on. With all due respect, no amount of anecdotal experience you have with raw diets is ever going to measure up. Perhaps more specifically, no diet is going to stop breed trait problems, in this case dysplasia and cruciate ligament problems.

well 99% of vets recommend dry food cause thats all they know/taught..
go to a holistic vet and see whats up.. By the way potatoes have no place in a dog or humans diet.. but yea whatever floats your boat. its your dog. good luck

cavemen didn't eat grain... i don't think humans should eat grain any more either... we should just stick to meat and some fruits.
you act as if pets have not been domesticated and they are still on the hunt. |

had to go to the vet the couple weeks ago, our vet thought our dog had a torn cruciate... we went to a orthopedic and turned out to be a ligament in the area that pulled away from the bone a little.
doc gave us 70% it would heal on its own, thankfully it did... that surgery would have been 2500, and if it had been the cruciate, the TPLO would have been 3500. dogs get expensive.. haha. |

Actually i don't know what VET will do a hip surgery to a puppy . If the dog really needs a hip implant , the best way is to wait until he stop growing , so his bones reach the maturity and then you take care of this . If not the implant will be way to small for the big mature bones , and will loose it and then again you have to put the dog for surgery .
I have a mix of Maremanno ( Toscany shepard ) with New Found Land , huge dog , almost 60 Kg and needs hips implant which is about 5000 € , thats very expensive , i would not say i ain't gonna pay this price , but i decided to go for other options : 1 . I feed the dog only with Royal canin ( size health , which makes him loose some weight ) and Spa for dogs ( running under the water , makes his muscles stronger to keep the hop together ) . I have to add , he was born with this hip dysplasia . |

shit Damon I'm really sorry to hear that your dog is needing more surgery, hopefully she will not need any more after this,
What brand of dog food is it that you are feeding them, and is it readily available in most pet food stores. We were feeding our dogs Innova Puppy Food until they were 8 or 9 months old and then switched to the adult Innova Evo that they are still on today. The food is an organic all natural human grade no grain dry food. They are almost 3 now in great shape and have never had any health issues. their coats are soft and shinny, one being so soft that it resembles rabbit fur. I know how stressfull surgery can be for you and your dog and I hope all goes well with that |

My sister's on maternity leave and she doesn't own the clinic she works for, so what she can discount me on is limited in terms of surgery. Also, TPLO is a highly specialized orthapedic surgery that she's not yet qualified for.

Pre existing problems are never covered by health insurance. A rottweiler with Dysplacia _IS_ going to be expensive, so no insurance company will take that on.
Remember, these are rescued dogs, this one in particular form Costa Rica. Bad genes, bad breeding, bad everything.

Sorry to hear your dog has to keep going in for surgeries. Big dogs commonly have hips problems. We have 2 labs that are on $100s of meds a month thyroid, anti-seizure meds, etc. They improve our quality of life, so I'll spend the money to improve theirs!
I doubt it would have prevented the hip surgery but have you ever tried Glucosamine & Chondroitin? We started our pups on it a few years ago and ever since the larger one has been much more frisky. Can tell its helping her joints. |

Don't get me wrong, I love my dogs. But when they start costing that kind of money, I can get a bullet and another dog that looks just like them, for a lot less.

My old dog (collie-husky cross) lived to be over 17 yrs old, I fed him a diet of high-end dry dog food and often mixed in a little extra meat scraps, rice, whatever, mixed with a little warm broth or water. The fact that he lived healthy for years longer than most dogs says I did something right. In all those years I did have to get his teeth scaled and a lump removed from his face which required a general anaestetic. Also had him fixed when he was about 1 and a half yrs old.
All that and all his vet visits combined added up to just under $2k... but in my view a dog is part of the family very much like a child to a lot of dog owners. If Warchild wants to spring for his pooch's surgery then I say bravo. Too bad there aren't more pet owners who care enough to do what it takes to provide their animal with good health care. Of course there will always be haters who just don't get that and never will.

So after things coming out both ends for a few days she went off to the vet. She was on iv there for 3 days, and this is back when I was fairly poor. So I was sitting looking at around 90.00 per day. On day 4 I called in ready to tell them to put her to sleep, and they told me she was well and to come in and get her. So now 12 1/2 years later she is still playful as ever and always my loyal buddy. Haven't taken her to the vet since. Not for a checkup not for anything as the only issues she has had since is occasional blockages which I solved by giving her some cooked ground beef and rice. She has done just fine off Ole Roy dog food from walmart. She is part lab and part terrier and I love her. I would do whatever I could to keep her healthy, but 8 grand is a bit excessive especially at her age now. ![]() ![]() |

These kind of horror stories made me get pet insurance when I got my pup about 6 months ago. 30 bucks month.
I look at it this way...would I rather spend $2000 in five years for nothing, or $2000 in 5 minutes because of a swallowed stick. I'll take the five year plan, cause chances are good that my dog will get sick or injured -- and he's turning out to be a little neckbreaker. |

I personally am not huge into spending massive amounts of money on pets... but I see no reason for some of the comments in this thread. Good God, I can be a cold asshole sometimes but messing with somebody's loved ones, human or animal, you just shut up and move along.
Good luck with the surgery, hope it helps.
