Yesterday the affiliate was king. Today it's changed. Adapt or die.

Powerful words, are they true? Yesterday if the surfer wanted good porn he had to join a site to get it. His options were few and a paysite was his best option, today he has Tube sites and Torrents to get his porn from and besides being free they provide an endless stream of new, to him, scenes.

Paysites have to win back the surfer trust and desire to buy porn, it can be done all it needs is a change in the way we operate. Here are a few ideas that might work to win back those who will spend for the convenience and luxury of getting their porn from a paysite.

Price. If he will only spend $1 for 1 day we have to give it to him. Better if he will spend $3, but we have to balance the effort of winning back those who will not against the long term benefit of changing the way he thinks.

Value. The surfer has to see the value of joining a paysite. Sites with 40 poor porn scenes will not convince a surfer to spend $30 for a month and have done long term harm to us all. We as an industry can give him 400 scenes for his money. We choose to give him 10 sites for $30 to squeeze money out of him. This route is getting harder and harder by the day. Give the customer value for his money, or he will not give it to you. It costs very little to give him mobile phone or ipod porn scenes as an existing options. It's more value for his buck and more reasons to spend it.

Quality. This is another excellent way to win back those who will spend money. Quality comes on different levels. Quality of experience, we have to stop screwing over the surfer before we lose them all. Well managed easy to use sites are customer friendly place. Quality images, Tubes can't deliver a scene in a quality a paysite can. Quality porn is essential. In the niche you're selling, models putting heart and soul into a scene and shot by people who understand the porn they're creating.

We as an industry can no longer rely on the old method of sending more and more traffic to convert at the same numbers. We have to convert more of the surfers already landing on our sites. This is the only way forward. The dream that free porn is going away is pointless. The only way it will disappear is if world governments stop porn outside members areas to protect children. Nice idea, we can't wait for it.

Makes a difference. We have to convince more of the people buying to keep buying, from us or from someone else. Some sites do it and some look upon him as a one off passer by. Next week or month he will be passing by someone else's site and a surfer from that site will be passing your site. It's a giant merry go round. What we have to ensure is they stay buying porn because it's the best option.

As an industry we never dreamed someone will come along and give the surfer a better deal. We looked upon surfers and members as an endless stream of revenue that would never dry up what ever we did to them. Or maybe some did and made their money and got out. Leaving us to pick up the pieces.

But anyone who's ever done real business has always catered to the customer first and foremost. The people who thought they could just rely on heavy traffic alone are either long gone or not doing anywhere near the numbers they'd have us believe.... no matter how much they spam everyone else's threads.

Who are "all these people"?
You're talking about an entire industry, right? And like every industry, there will always be a few people who create quality, industry leading products and then a whole lot of people who don't.
That's how it has been and how it will continue to be.

The fact is, surfers will still leave despite being treated like a king if they simply can no longer afford it. Economic times are tough on the average porn surfer, your sudden desire to treat them like a king (apparently you weren't before?) isn't going to change the fact that his gas costs him more.

It doesn't matter that you have to impress them more. You should have been impressing them the best you can right from day one, when they had a lot of money. Treat them like a king at their best, as well as at their worst.

If a paysite owner didn't have the smarts to do it then, they won't now.
