As much as I hate to say it, and as much as I swore I wouldn't vote for another republican after the Bush fiasco...I just do not have faith in Obama. His positions on all the issues seem vague and contrived and he just doesn't seem to have the backbone needed. I really want to believe that the Democrats can come in and slow inflation, and stop the certain demise our society is headed towards with the gas price issue, but he just seems a bit flat to me.

Now McCain is no picknic either but at least I can respect that the guy is a war hero. Which, could work against him as well. Spending time in a tiger cage could give a guy an itchy trigger finger. However, he strikes me as the kind of guy who will take the fucking oil if we cannot get it any other way in order to save our civilization, and perhaps that is what we need now that Bush has put us in this position. Another issue is abortion, I find it very hard to vote for someone who is anti-choice. In the end his administration may be in the same vein as Bush with taking away freedoms and war mongering, but our very survival may be at stake here.

I mean look, it is what it is...we are in a critical situation and to stop society from falling into a dark ages of sorts we may need a guy who's not afriad to blow a mother-fucker up...who knows?

With that said...i'll have to wait and see how I feel as the issues come out a little more. I want to go Obama but i'll have to see something more.

They both suck.
It truly is a shame that these 2 guys are the best this nation could come up with to run for President.

It is going to be hard to vote this year. I guess I will vote for the best candidate that money can buy....

McCain = Copy & Paste Bush and I feel that Obama may not have the experience necessary to get the job done. Vega, you are absolutely right, we are headed for depression and things are just not looking good at all. We are well past recession at this point. However, I have not seen a clear plan of action that seems as though it would work from either party.

Where is Ron Paul? Not saying he would do any better, but he seems like a pretty smart guy.

After eating Bush's shit sandwhich, smiling and shaking George's hand, I feel McCain left his backbone in Vietnam. He can't stand up for himself. Which means he won't stand up to neoconservatives, and will back down to a real threat like Saudi Arabia, Inda or China.

If he comes out now and says "Fuck you George Bush, for the way you fucked me, and fucked over this country". I might possibly consider, but chances are, no.

I literally cannot afford another month of where things are going, heaven forbid four more years of the same. If McCain is elected, I will lose my house, and most likely have to leave the adult industry.

I'll take Obama.

Gore Vidal said it best,

?I liked the idea of him, but he never managed to get my interest. I was brought around by his overall intelligence ? specifically when he did his speech on race and religion.?

In Vidal?s opinion, ?he?s our best demagogue since Huey Long or Martin Luther King?.

however...

in Vidal?s eyes, McCain is just a symptom of the real malaise affecting America today: the cynical subversion of the US constitution. ?The Bush people?, he says, ?have virtually got rid of Magna Carta and habeas corpus. In a normal republic I would probably have raised an army and overthrown them. It will take a hundred years to put it all back.?

So gove The Story Of Obama a chance, all the guys with policies pandering to the moronic electorate fucked up.

Assemble the best and try....

and have a great w/e GFY

He would make a much better president than either candidate. The republican party has gone to the shitter, but Ron Paul remains true to what a conservative really is. If he was the nominee, I would gladly rejoin the Republican party.

You don't really believe that Obama will order a pull out from Iraq do you?

Wait until it gets a little closer to the election and he will qualify his statements in regards to Iraq just like he did yesterday with his NAFTA rhetoric from the primaries. His former chief foreign policy advisor let that cat out of the bag a while ago just like his former economic advisor let slip his true NAFTA stance.

Obama is worse, by far.

A year ago I would not have thought I'd be voting republican this time around (I'm independent, but have leaned more Dem in past presidential elections) however the Dems really fell flat in their offerings. Obama has an incredibly partisan voting record, and a very short one at that. Early on he seemed to be attempting to run as a "uniter" of some sort, yet his partisan voting record would indicate creating even further division between the two parties than we are experiencing under the current administration. Virtually everything he has done and every vote he has made has served the sole purpose of gaining popularity and nothing else. He contradicts himself and backpeddles continuously, which is not uncommon amongst any politician, but most of them don't find a need to do it so often as he does. He just doesn't seem to have any idea of what he's doing at all, and I don't support the vast majority of his positions anyway.

Also of significant concern, his proposed plans would end up putting me into a nearly 60% tax bracket. Where the hell is the "hope" in that? Making a person choose between being able to reinvest adequately in their business or save for retirement is not hope for anyone. Lots of people that do part time contract work around here would probably find themselves getting a hell of a lot less of it if those giving them work would be forced to pay out such ridiculous sums.

McCain wasn't my first choice either, as far as abortion goes I'm pro-choice, however the most he can do is appoint someone to the supreme court to decide that matter, and even then it would still be available on a state-by-state basis so that's a compromise that anyone who can afford a bus ticket to an out of state clinic can afford.

I do very much like McCain's idea to repeal or significantly reduce the death tax.

Since our defense budget eats up so much of our tax money, it's also refreshing to see someone interested in reducing fraud and waste in that area. While that might not be as relatable to the average person as, for instance, cleaning up waste in other more public gov't spending, since it takes the largest chunk of our tax dollars it may also have the potential to free up the largest amount of money to be put to better use elsewhere.

What a novel idea, reduce waste to free up funds rather than figure out which taxpayers can be raped for more tax money.

Much as I loathe the war in Iraq, we've got a big mess to finish up with there somehow or other and I am more confident in McCain's ability to resolve the fighting quickly effectively than Obama, who didn't even seem to understand that Al Qaeda has moved into Iraq. A change in strategy, unfettered by Bush, could drastically change our situation there and bring the fighting to a much quicker close.

I also am more inclined to believe McCain would find Osama Bin Laden - whom we should have been putting much more effort towards - than Obama would. His capture may have a significant demoralizing effect upon terrorists around the world, this country deserves justice extracted from him, and maybe it'll stop some innocents from getting killed in some other future attack that he would no longer be able to orchestrate.

Both of them suck. Simple as that.

Voting for neither of them.

I'll still vote at the Polls, but will skip the President part; maybe vote for a 3rd party candidate - won't change the outcome, but at least I'll sleep good at night knowing I didn't vote for either Obama nor McCain.

Obama is arrogant / eliteist while McCain is out of touch / "Bush 3".

Good post, Ray. Good observations, though I hope you come around and decide to take a chance on a different path.

The part of me that is overcome with rational worry for future (especially regarding the energy 'crisis') likes the idea of a guy like McCain being on my side, because I also feel that he will do whatever it takes (militarily speaking) to keep this country as powerful as possible. Unfortunately, I believe it is that kind of politics which will also eventually bring an end to the United States as we know them, and quite possibly humanity as a whole.

They might both be full of shit, but when it comes to their rhetoric, it really is black and white, hope vs fear. Do we want to try to make idealistic changes which could have far reaching positive effects on future generations of humans (but could also bite us in the ass, i.e. lose the US some power), or do we want to ride out our current strategy which will force us to become more and more evil in order to survive?

It's going to be interesting.

Good point. As much as we goof off on this board, this is a fucked up serious matter and our kids can literally be in a full depression if we make the wrong choices. That is if our votes matter at all anyway.

The thing that makes me laugh are these people who come in here and say, "I hate McCain because he's a scumbag" or "Obama is a jackass" or whatever. C'mon kids, we are all grown up now, If you have no fucking idea why you like or dislike someone then keep your mouth shut. It looks like they are sad sacks who hate "the man" for keeping them down and have no rational or intelligent reasons that they can put forth other than name calling.

At least you and I, and the few other adults on the board have a real rational thought process.

Come on man!..the guy was in a fucking prison camp for christ sakes. I'm no supporter of the Republican party or McCain for that matter, but right is right...most people gloat about having grown up with little money or in a tough neighborhood or shit like that, this fuckin guy survived torture in a goddamned concentration camp for the very freedom that allows you to put him down.

I'd be "reminding" people of that sacrifice every day if I were him. How would you hold up in that situation? You don't think that deserves your respect?

Someone should tell Gore Vidal the Magna Carta is an English document. As far as him raising an army, it would be an army of fairies. Even the French would not be intimidated.

that is not correct.

the fastest growing and 3rd largest political party in the USA is on record as being pro-adult and you can find it on this page of their website:

They both suck, but Barry is in it strictly for his own benefit. He wants to be the first darkie in white house and doesn't care about anything else.
