![]() hi there guys
im doing video conversions from a HD video camera with Sony Vegas, what settings do you reccomend? im trying at 5mbit with .wmv 9 and .wmv V8 right now, do you recommend anything else? ideally i want to encode with 2 options: high quality and medium quality and video size either the max (1280x720) or i guess that 640x480 would work too. thanks |

I usually encode my HDV footage to WMV and other formats at 1280 x 720 size at 3500 Kbps or so video bitrate and then a smaller frame size video at 480 x 270 frame size at 1500 Kbps video bitrate. 640 x 480 won't work unless you crop the edges to make it 4x3 aspect ratio. By the way you are usually better off using a professional video encoding app like Sorenson Squeeze or Cleaner XL rather than an editing app like Vegas to do video encoding. It allows you to do batches and also you have more control for filters.

if you want the best quality and smallest file size, encode them as h264/AVC.
you can downscale to any size you want, just keep the 16:9 aspect ratio. One common size I use is 640x360 at 1500 Kbps h264, looks amazing. |
