How far would you drive to the gym?

How many minutes or miles maximum would you drive to go to the gym?

Not more than 20km max. by car and it should not take longer than 30 minutes one way.
Right now I have to drive about 12km to the gym which takes me like 10-15 minutes by car and half an hour by bike.

I have a gym, walking distance, and I didn't go, even though i had paid membership.

Now I go to a gym three times a week, and the gym is a good 15 minutes by car, from my home.

I signed up for one that was cheaper but about 20 mins away from my house. Never went paid for two yrs. If I can commit to exercise at home for 90 days. I will then join the gym thats about 5 mins away from my home. Closer is always better.

I wouldn't live anywhere far from a gym since I go every day and my time is precious. My gym is walking distance, approx. three minutes each way. Used to be five minutes by car.

what is better la fitness or 24 hr fitness

la fitness is more far from my house, mapquest says
Estimated Time: 6 minutes Estimated Distance: 3.51 miles

24 hr fitness
Estimated Time: 4 minutes Estimated Distance: 1.98 miles

Walking is out of the question, i only walk on treadmills but i dont like to walk outside/on the streets. i like to drive everywhere.

I have a membership at both clubs. LA Fitness has really great new clubs. If you live near an older one then i would say go to 24 hour fitness.

All the new LA Fitness clubs are beautifully done with the latest and greatest equipment.

You should go take a look at both clubs and see what amenities they have ( Swimming, Racquetball, sauna etc.)

I also travel quite a bit and having both memberships allows me to have a gym pretty much wherever i travel in the US.

I would say 20 minutes at the max. Many of my workouts are last minute things where I didn't plan on it and then all of sudden I just say "fuck it", walk out the door and go to the gym. If the gym was too far I couldn't do that.

There's a 24 hour fitness about 15 minutes from my house but the local park district has an awesome weight room and it's only 5 minutes away. Plus, 90% of the time I'm the only one in there. Also, with it being empty all he time I can pose in the mirrors like a narcissistic douche bag when I have a good pump going....lol!

there is a la fitness thats 3.51 miles away from me but i think its an older one. I would prefer 24 hr i think because there are more locations so i can pick the one that has the least people. i can't work out in a place where there are too many people or people are too sociable etc i want to work out somewhere isolated where there are hardly any people or one that has a lot of old people. I don't want to work out in a "happening gym" with lots of young people ready to mingle etc. I only want to work out and go home and I'm not comfortable working out in a busy place.

Whats the best time to go for when there's no people? I am guessing between 10 and 11 am in the morning cause everyone will be at work??

Also, I hope the machines are not facing each other are they? I never went insde 24 hrs so I don't know what the layout is like... Are the machines facing each other so the person using the machine across from you can see you directly when you are working out?
The gym in my building had all the equipment away from each other so you're not really facing others when using the machines... I am not used to working out in a very busy place so it is rather intimidating. I also don't want to be "faced" against other people when using machines, it makes me feel self conscious and awkward.

I read reviews on some 24 hr fitness gyms on yelp.com and a lot of people say that some of the places are like "meat markets". Is this true? I just want to work out I don't want to socialize or talk to anyone, "social scene" type places freak me out.

I am 1 block from the gym, if it should take a car to go to a gym, probably I would go only 2 or 3 times a month...

I have about 5 gyms within a 15 min drive from my house. I don't go to any of them, I go to a park about 3 miles from my house and run round it every day. Distance is 4 miles - then I do some weights in my house. Its also good for taking my dog a nice walk as he comes with me.

I'm really envious of all of you that have one less the 10min away, that's convienience right there. I recently moved and I had the choice of a gym or a running track by the house... and I went for the running track. But now, if the drive to the gym is 25min. The worst part, I didn't do neither for a more than a month and now I'm 5lb overweight.
