Do any of you contact members of your paysite who did a cb?

I mailed 2 or 3 over the last months just asking why they did a cb. Ofcourse no answer.

Do some of you take it a step further?

So far, knock on wood, my only CBs have been fraud/stolen card related... I've have long email correspondences with people who asked for refunds though. My favorite reason was "I found out it wasn't real".

When I first started charging for access somewhere around 2001 or 2002 each time I wrote an earnest email asking why they charged back, pointing out it cost me money and negative kudos points

Never got a single reply back... now I'm more jaded and just live with it.

Nah I just post their emails on gay chat forums.

I KID!!

I actually post their home phone numbers on the gay chat.

KIDDING!

But Ive had a few that have had to cancel their recurring memberships that told me they had financial issues. Ive given a few of those a month or two free if they rebilled over 4 months prior.

Exactly.

I block them at both CCB, and Verotel. I then will normally CC them to make sure they get a copy of the e-mail notifying them that I requested they be blocked forever.

When we suspect a purchases might chargeback, we call ahead of time to verify that the card holder was the person who actually made the purchase. If it is not, we void the transaction at CCBill to stop our chargeback rate from climbing.

If we miss one and it becomes a chargeback, we call them to ask why. We get some of the coolest excuses:

- It wasn't me.
- It wasn't me, it was my son.
- No excuse just please don't tell my wife.
- It was my wife's credit card and she saw the charge and questioned me.
- I'm poor and can't afford it
- I'm disabled and can't afford it
- I'm on welfare and can't afford it
- I didn't cum
- I felt guilty afterwards.

The BEST one (or worst one depending how you look at it) was a woman who, upon getting our phone called, freaked out because it was her daughter who had made the purchases... "You fucking little dyke you stole my card didn't you? How many times do I have to tell you that gay girl sex is wrong! I am going to send you back to that special doctor if you don't get over your evil facination with girls!"

I felt really bad for the girl. She's a teen and she likes girls. Big deal. Stupid mom can't cope and is embarrased by her kid's choices. She's the one who needs to go to the "special doctor" whatever he is...

Anyway...

So we send them a collection letter but of course it doesn't work. Every once in a while we will threaten to file a police report AND turn over the chat logs which include dates, times IP Address. Usually chat logs that are pretty fucked up ("Hey girl, can you hold your dildo like it was your own cock and jerk it off for me?") get the best response.

Tee hee

With some of the rules that Visa has in place, it amazes me at how easily they allow them.

I always love the CB reason of Family member made the charge and I ( card owner ) did not authorize it. Sadly Visa rules say that the card owner is responsible for anyone in the house that charges on it.

Webbilling.com has a full Collection Division that goes after every chargeback against our EU direct debit platform - Our collection department aggressively pursues every chargeback ? including principal amount + charges. Collection involves legal letters, phone calls, etc., and begins immediately upon our notification, and we make it very easy for the user to make good on his debt. We attempt to recover every single transaction for our merchants and these credits become a revenue stream of their own over time.

We win 90% of our CBs so it doesn't really affect us.

In the event we lose, I submit their email to as many tranny email lists as possible.

The funny thing Visa could give everyone a pin you have to use online to charge something. The pin would never be record it would just be the key to allow you to charge. Fraud and chargebacks would reduce greatly but I think since it makes them money and costs them nothing they are fine with the way it is.
Think about it how come your picture isnt on every credit card you own? If they cared that would be the case.

Not that many chargebacks yet, but as Joe pointed out there are a lot of options how to even actually recover the money from your European, especially German users.

I send an email to every single one. Most are fraud or were planning on charging back from the get go, but it makes me feel better having that customer service.

They already have this in place for some banks. Some of my old credit cards had it, and my current one's do as well. I suppose, from what I can tell, it depends on the bank.

I consolidated, and closed cards a year or so back. But some already had you do that PIN step for purchase. If memory serves, I wanna say it was mainly on my MC cards. But I think my WAMU was a VISA.

I think I did once a long time ago, maybe with the first one we got. I do think about it, but feel like my time would be better spent blogging or podcasting about cb's in general to educate them about how those effect small business owners. Lately I do feel like people are having money problems and are just desperate, especially when I've seen a couple of people who are getting refunds & doing chargebacks who've been long-time members. Either they really weren't aware they had an active subscription or they are just financially fucked.

In general I just feel like it's better to use my time making new sales or content instead of worrying about the rare chargeback or calls-to-ccbill (instead of emailing us) for-refunds. They have to already know they're being assholes.

If you have European traffic and chargebacks on your joins, The Webbilling.com team is setting appointments for August Internext. Introduce yourself at the Mix & Meet Market Thursday August 7th, 2008 or contact us in advance for an appointment to discuss Webbilling Advanced Direct Pay and all aspects of our proven EU direct debit platform. Let us show you exactly how you can best leverage current economic conditions for your specific programs.

You know me, and you know knowledge is power, so let us show you some things - if with nothing else, you'll leave us with a better understanding of the EU markets, methods and culture - and insight on reaching your EU goals.

And if you and your business plan are ready for the eighth annual Island Gathering in October, Epoch.com will award a complimentary trip to a lucky winner.

Interesting answers. Good to see some people go all the way. I guess im just too nice.

Now i understand if one of my sites doesnt update or whatever they do a cb but i know most cb's are just people who would do it anyway and its just theft. I was being nice by just mailing them asking them why (only a couple of times). Maybe i should be less nice.

I really hope it is not that easy to get peoples cards banned at billers. I have seen both the tours and the insides of many sites out there, along with the tricks they pull. They are begging for chargebacks it seems and if these people can get those pissed off customers banned would really suck ass.

I have had a good percentage of chargebacks reversed, some by the bank and others by the customer. My method works a lot of the time.

Of course, I do some research first, checking the IP, email, etc. for possible fraud signs. If it is fraud I just let it go.

I think Frank is right, most of them plan to CB.
At all my chargebacks the fuckers surfed my sites almost daily, so i assume
they cannot be that bad.

Approximately what percentage of chargebacks are you able to recover?

Between 60-95% depending on the level of fraud protection you choose, and further to the posts above, because of our personal involvement with the user through the collection process we are able to remove users who make good on their debt from our negative database because there are all manner of reasons for chargebacks
