I stuff my burgers with herbed butter, garlic and onion. lean meat is much better with that as it doesn't shrink as much... and honestly the meat tastes better

the Chili Tomato Hamburger Helper is great - though it does lead to mudbutt usually

Perhaps not a great burger but a very good burger can be made from both extra lean beef and turkey/chicken. It is all about what other moisture you introduce. I make a mean turkey curry burger that is nearly fat free and uses mango chutney in the mix to bring the moisture.

Yes, fat tastes good but you can make the burgers taste yummy without the fat too. Trust me, I do a new low fat burger (with various meats) every other week as a treat.

As far as hamburger helper goes, we don't have it in the UK so I admit that it is a bit of a white trash memory treat when I go back home. Then I remember it wasn't that great and I can make something similar way better on my own. Sort of like Kraft Macaroni and Cheese (also very hard to get over here).

i think you had tainted meat - all HH is is ground beef, pasta and some chili mix - chemicals but pretty much all packaged foods have the same chemicals

Hamburger helper has a shelf life of like 900 years.

You definitely ate some bad meat.

I havent had hamburger helper for at least a year now... and I only accept a couple versions... but i have to say Sharky, Lasagna was long ago ruled out as the very worst HH on the face of the earth...

try this one out sometime...

Cheesy enchilada... its hamburger and spanish rice... coock it up ... get some tortillas and some fresh lettuce and salsa... slap some HH on the tort... chop some lettuce and layer it about, some salsa... now that makes for a tasty lunch or dinner... quick and still lite...

most of the other older versions are pure shit...

sorry about your pooper

Hey dude, you're supposed to drain the oil/grease out when you are done cooking the meat but before you put in the noodles otherwise it will taste like the oily stuff you are talking about. I used to eat hamburger helper years back but now I hate it! You just reminded me of why!

I can't even fathom being hungry enough to make Hamburger Helper.

I was out of food once, so I made up the pasta, but their mixes are vile.

You must have grown up rich because there were times they sold those boxes for a buck and they made cheap white trash meals when money was tight. I am sort of glad we went through that stage growing up so I can judge real food against the powdered stuff and know why I like the real stuff better.

I will say though, that when I went home to the States and saw the tuna helper stuff I did wonder why people needed help making tuna noodle casserole which is one of the easiest meals to make on your own.

I decided to move past that and give it a shot anyway. I ate it in college, why not now?

Fast forward to 30 minutes ago, about 15 minutes after eating this disgusting meal.
My ass has been spewing almost non-stop. I'm sure to have lost 4-5lbs, You know.. about 13 flushes worth. The T.P couldn't handle it, so I had to rinse off in the shower.

Is this a normal reaction to HH?

It's Canned meat. very salty. Not known for it's taste, but perfect if you live on an island prone to typhoons where you lose power and can't store meat in the fridge.

You would know if you had.

Back in the same period where my parents stretched the budget with HH they also did macaroni and cheese and spam. For a good year, when I was about 6, that was my favorite meal. I have had spam meals that aren't that bad but I haven't had spam at all for years.

In the UK spam is actually not that cheap these days. On top of the fat content that is one of the reasons I haven't had it in years. I could buy a ton of canned tuna cheaper if I needed something that will last.

This thread fucking owns. A friend of mine came over one night, ate hamburger helper, then proceeded to drink a fucking 12 pack of bud longnecks. He passed out on the couch, belched in his sleep, and up came the helper along with the beer. Motherfucker didn't even wake up. I threw a towel over him and woke him up. my wife saw what happened and almost threw up too..chain vomit reaction like fucking "stand by me" or some shit.
