How do you hide your affiliate ID in links?

I see people using this ProtectedLinking sometimes to hide their affiliate id's.

How do you do this?

Is there a way you can hide your affiliate id to where no one at all knows it or can see it?

Any tips would be greatly appreciated,

thanks.

I have seen it done on mgp's,

it will have the sponsor CLICK HERE link, and the link out is actually something like this:

h'ttp://www.protectivelinking.com/ah818 etc.

Any idea people?

i think a lot of people may refrain from clicking if they mouse over and see that.

my own friend told me that he copys the URL shortcut and pastes the gallery URL into the browser because he hates when he is redirected to other sites

So the best way is to do a Redirect?

<html><body>
<meta http-equiv="refresh" content="0;
url=http://www.myaffiliateprogram.com/?XXXX">
</body></html>

but how do you mask your affiliate link without showing your id.

The protectivelinking would work great in this scenario, maximum privacy.. but how the hell do you do that.. lol

your going to create an html page for every link? wow, thats going to be a project eh?

what you probably need is some click tracking software. i use one i had created for SEM & PPC tracking. in the UI you enter the URL and it would spit out a coded url.

such as you enter http://www.sponsorsite.com/affid=youraffiliatecode and it would output http://www.mysite.com/id=3 but redirect to the original URL. I had it set up for time stamping and such for clicks

He is simply asking the syntax for when you run your mouse over it it says www.yahoo.com but when you click it it goes to www.yahoo.com/linkcode

Would this keep your affiliate id private to only you and your sponsor.. no third party could get it?

What i'm asking, and i'm sure there are a few different ways to go about it is:

1. How can you keep your affiliate id or code private to any third party who is looking for it, meaning only you know it and your sponsor knows it.

2. How do you keep your sponsor from seeing you referral url on click stats and sales.

3. Mainly, what ways are there to keep your affiliate id hidden, preferably totally hidden from anyone trying to find it out.

So very many thanks to all the replies.

I can't see many people, dick in hand doing that. Maybe the paranoid ones or other affiliates not wanting to give the sale.

1. You can create a PHP file which redirects the surfer. header("Location: http://sponsor.com/?affid=1234");
But there is no 100% sure way of hiding your affiliate id from prying eyes. Using frames can be risky for the sales tracking.

2. Why do you want to hide this information from your sponsor? Don't think I want to help you on this one.

3. It is not possible to hide your aff. id totally from someone who is determined to find out.

That's simple as hell. Rewrite your urls to go through a redirect and set your text to the url, or even just the domain. I'd give you a working example - but whoever owns SmutWire, has killed it.
