My Personal View About Us and the Elections

I write a monthly column for my "Dave Cummings" sites, and for a Texas Magazine ("Adult Quest"), and for some web sites; normally, I focus upon sexual stuff, but this month it's all politically targeted.

Bottom line--Since, IMHO, a McCain victory might be more burdensome for us that an Obama, here's what I wrote.

FROM THE TRENCHES
BY: Dave Cummings----Porn Star/Producer/Director 10/13/08

It?s happening! Extensive elections nationwide are forthcoming, and WE have an opportunity to be heard via our votes. Please, do indeed vote! And, please keep in mind that local and state elections also impact upon our freedoms and lives.
We consumers of Adult Entertainment have our best chances of keeping government out of our personal and private lives by voting out those at local/county/state/federal level who let their personal religious views, or those who influence such elected officials, trample upon citizen-voter rights.
Before I open up and tell you my personal political preferences, let me vent a bit. I am tired of the constant political mailings and intrusive phone calls urging me to vote one way or the other. I am tired of television and radio political bombardments. I am tired of the political sniping, badmouthing, and attacks against candidates instead of their opinions, and I am very upset with the way some ?reporters? in the media seem to be cheerleading and commenting in a biased way, instead of ?reporting? news in an objective way. Damn!!!
I feel like the present congressional leadership is extremely inept, and somewhat childish. I dislike what seems like laziness in Congress ?c?mon, get some meaningful work done, not just politicking baloney! Just look at the latest economic crisis and how some in the Senate added ?earmarks? of many, many, many billions to the Bailout bill. What gall, what favoritism, what scamming, and what bullshit! We taxpayer-voters have been, and are being, taken advantage of by our elected officials. I say that Congress has behaved badly and ineptly to the point that term limits are now needed. Let?s push for term limits on Congress, and let?s think about one five-year presidential term.
Here?s my present thinking on the presidential race:
A. I like the way the Republicans generally are against increased taxes, want smaller government that stays out of the private lives of citizens, and seem more focused against terrorism and making America energy -independent; I dislike their unwillingness to more fully separate church from state, especially as it regards citizen access to Adult entertainment, their stance against abortion and stem cell research funding, and the possibility that they would kowtow to religious hypocrites in appointments to the Judiciary.

B. I appreciate the Democrats for not being obsessed with policing the access of consenting adults to adult entertainment (hopefully, their Department of Justice would focus on child porn and crime, not what consenting adults watch/enjoy/do in the privacy of their bedrooms), and for their view on abortion rights and stem cell research. I am not enamored by their quest for more taxes, or government programs like healthcare. Lately, Senator Obama thankfully seems more realistic about defending America, and what it takes to fight terrorism.

Bottom line is that I personally plan to vote for Senator Obama, unless, like here in California, he is so assured of the electoral votes that it won?t hurt for me to vote a protest sort of ?write-in? for Dave Cummings (I do have a B.S. In Economics, and Masters Degree in Public Administration). Besides what I opined above, Obama seems more accepting than McCain/Palin of the rights of Americans to access adult entertainment. I also plan to cast votes against ALL my Congressional incumbents, as well as present incumbents at state/county/city level (unless, of course, I find the challengers to be more dangerous to the separation of church and state, or so holier-than-thou that I don?t trust them to properly govern without their religious views tainting the objective accomplishment of their official duties).
Let?s take our beloved America back from elected officials who show more concern for partisan politics and their jobs than they do for OBJECTIVELY serving of their constituents.

Let?s vote, and let?s ask others to also vote!

I agree with the majority of those sentiments and think anyone who makes a good portion of their living in adult should vote Deomocat on that auspicious Tuesday. I would encourage everyone to exercise their right to vote regardless of their choice. Voting is a freedom we shouldn't take for granted.

"I like the way the Republicans ... want smaller government that stays out of the private lives of citizens..."

I hear people say this a lot but I can't think of any real life examples of Republicans wanting to stay out of people's private lives. It seems just the opposite to me. They want to control marriage, sex, porn and other adult entertainment, births/abortion rights and more. Can you name some specific examples of areas where Republicans advocate staying out of personal affairs?

I think it's pretty god damn funny that in many states the peoples vote does not even count. The electorial college makes the call regardless of what the general vote is.

In the state I am registered in, it is not a battle ground state and my vote DOES NOT COUNT. This means I can also write in Dave Cummings and it doesn't mean shit. Something is seriously wrong with that. Why bother to vote if my voice doesn't count?

Every American should have a say. EVERY AMERICAN. The popular vote should decide, not the electorial college.

I recall news reports over the years where the repubs were against new and expanded government programs that would increase taxes and allow gov't to operate the bureaucracy involved with the new tax/budget-supported program. Wasn't that one of the reason why Mrs Clinton's health proposals failed during the Clinton administration.

I certainly don't want more gov't involvement like the U.S. Postal System -- UPS/FEDEX/etc works fine, though.

While lobbying for the Adult Industry for the last 10-11 years during the annual Free Speech Coalition Lobbying events at the California Legislature, the repubs repeatedly were against taxes and new programs, particularly if the programs took over already-functioning and effective civilian-run matters. Case-in-point is Dems Sen Calderon's 2007 and 2008 bill that proposed taxation against everything "adult" (including Internet sales/memberships/etc) in order to provide programs/offsets to mis-perceived and untrue "secondary effects" allegedly caused by gentlemen's clubs and other adult venues--the dems had a majority, but since it was a tax bill that required 60% majority, it was defeated by the republicans--whew!. Same for a bill to take over what AIM already does to prevent STD/HIV breakouts in the porn business---do you really want the government mandatorily entering your photo shoot or cam shows in your home/living room just to check on health and OSHA stuff? I don't!

Well, that's not what Dave was saying. At least, that's not what I took away from it. In addion, I clarified my post by saying *if you make a living in the industry*, I think your choice is clear. Either way you vote, the act in and of itself is of utmost importance.

agreed. I live in a very liberal state that will be going to Obama. So if I vote for him, it doesn't really matter because he is already going to win the state. If I vote for McCain it doesn't really matter, he is going to lose the state anyway. I will probably vote independent just so my vote actually counts.

The electoral college is outdated and encourages corruption. It should be done away with and replaced with simple popular vote just like every other election in the nation.

Indeed, some republicans do seem to be influenced by the radical right-wing hypocritical nut jobs who want sex legislated out of American lives:-(.
