I got audited last year, because of a loss i reported of 3500 in checks stolen from my mailbox. I didn't send enough proof detailing the loss I guess.

It wasn't pleasent, but it wasn't terrible.

Do your self a favor. 4 days before the audit. reset the appointment for a Doctars visit. ( GO TO THE DOCTOR.

the next appointment, reset for something else.. PROVE YOU HAD SOMETHING ELSE...

Then again. Usually on the third time, they will send you a new letter with an amount to pay and thats it.

I'm trying to get them to do it at the US Embassy in Bangkok, which I think they can. Unless they want to buy a round trip first class ticket to go back to the USA. I have a doctors letter that states any flight over 6 hours I am unable to sit in economy chairs due to my bad back. I must lay down totally flat for any flight over 6 hours.

awww, sucktastic! i was audited earlier this year for 05. it was fucking grueling. first visit they had me there 4 straight hours, no break for potty, food or water and i hadnt eaten breakfast yet. they asked me so many fucked up questions, they were wearing me down. i had 2 more visits and got off scott free. what are the major items in question if you dont mind my asking? if you satisfy the first 2 fully on your first visit, they will stop and let you off. they go to the next items if you dont give them all they need on the first two. my first 2 were my write-offs for marketing and vehicle. they nailed me on the vehicle mileage and maintenence and moved onto the communications (phones, internet) and office equipt. good luck

There is another department here in Thailand for that, and since I don't actually earn money here, I do not pay tax to them. If I had a business where I was earning money IN Thailand, they would tax me for sure. But they have a tax treaty with the USA so I would be able to write that off on my US taxes.
