My diet tips are boring - count calories, eat your veggies, exercise and play for the long game rather than thinking there is a quick fix. It was actually finally getting to grips with that last one that allowed me to stick with things this long.

I do not really 'diet' per se. I watch my diet, in regards to what I am eating.

For example, I eat a lot of those Healthy Choice steamers. I also pick up a Stouffers Baked Chicken, and Mashed Potatoes, and Chunky Veggie Soup, Healthy Choice (less salt) things for the bulk of my main meals. They are under 300 cals each.

For 'treats'. I pick up those Andes mints. You have have 8 of them, and it's like 200 calories or something. I am out, so I would have to read them when I have them, but out of most of the candy. I have to have something good, but low calories. Having 8 of those tiny mints almost makes me think I have had a 1500 candy bar.

If you follow a 'diet' for long enough it just becomes how you eat. That is the case with me now. I know what my daily calories look like but I still like to count most of the time to keep myself on track. After two years of eating as I do now which is low fat, more veggies than meat, slow burning foods to control insulin and the occasional 'cheat' day it is just how I eat and if I stray for more than a couple days I feel rubbish.

don't count calories, but make healthy choices

every meal should have colorful vegetables in them, dark green salads and spinach and brocolli and green or red peppers etc etc etc, beans are extremely good, if you eat grains make sure they are whole grains ie. whole grain breads, tortillas, etc.... cultured milk products are great ie. yogourt, kefir, etc... avoid fried foods completely, avoid artificial foods and flavors, avoid refined sugar products, no soda

it isn't that hard and you can eat all you want if you are eating the healthiest choices, and it isn't like a diet where you go on and off, once you get used to the taste of healthy foods you won't want anything else ie. soda pop tastes like nasty artificial sugar syrup etc.

going to an organic grocer like Whole Foods is a great idea, even if you aren't completely convinced of organic, but overall the natural healthy choices are much easier to make there (and really, who can argue against eating food with no hormones and pesticides in it?)

500 calories a day is starvation level even if you were a 95 pound girl. Your body will hold onto every bit of fat if you eat like that and you will get weak and sick from it as well. You may have to eat a lot more healthy foods, small meals throughout the day. Maybe more like 2000 calories for a 170 pound man (depends on your weight). Also lift weights and do some exercise, otherwise the starvation diet will just transform you into a weaker, smaller out of shape person.

In my opinion people should learn how to cook. These days it is all about fast food or frozen dinners. I would say that 19 out of 20 meals I have are home cooked balanced meals. Use you kitchen!!!

*hugs and kisses*

LOL. I would like to see your daily sodium intake. I'm betting at least 6000 mg.

You should really try getting away from that prepackaged stuff. It all has way too much sodium in it. I can always tell when I've been taking in too much sodium... I feel like crap.
