Nope it shows a pattern of Obama supporting illegal and unconstitutional laws. Much like this new mandate he wants to implement.

The government cant even teach our children to read and write. For 30 years our education system has been declining. What started 30 years ago? The department of education. If we are really serious about fixing our education problem we need to bring it back to the state and local levels.

Obama just wants to waste more money on failed policies.

What's illegal and unconstitutional about asking people of the USA to help the country they live in? Is it so wrong to ask this of a nation's citizens? Demanding it's a different story.

Personally, I think the entitlement everyone seems to think they have in the USA has gone way overboard. Much like assumptions people make.

To ask is one thing to mandate is another. Mandating people who have not committed a crime to work is slavery.

I see the sense of entitlement is also coming from people who think they should tell others how to live their lives.

Do I believe people should help their community? Damn straight! Do I think it should be mandated? No way in hell.

Obama isn't in charge yet, so of course he isn't the one doing the raiding of medical marijuana spots in California. Why didn't your favorite republican administration respect the STATE? Doesn't that bother you?

You dig big government? I could have sworn a couple of posts earlier you were advocating that states' should make the decisions?

Or do you have a sig and just dig the conflict for sig impressions (I have sigs turned off, so am curious)?

Not only that, but if it's the State or Federal government mandating something, it's still a government mandate.
Why federal = bad and state = good makes no sense to me.
More power to the states doesn't equal smaller government, it equals different government.

Same thing here. They can either participate in community work or co-op at a local business. Either way it gives them both experience and the opportunity to network with others.

I've retarded posted before and I'll probably do it again. Hell, I probably went retarded in one of your threads. Regardless, I'm frightened by people who write straight-up, contradictory posts.

I'm also frightened by a lot of other things, but that's neither here nor there.

So glad that we put a stop to all of that shit after WWI and WWII. If we have proved anything, we have proved that community service does not help and it indeed is not only unamerican it is slave labor.

Great Idea IMO.. 100 hours a year for 4 years, and you get the first $4000 of your college free?? That is $10.00 an hour for community service..

What is wrong with that? Its a great deal... Help out people who need it and get a break on your first year of school.

Like I touched on before.

What would happen if say those who qualified could get free medical school, or say free nursing, medical specialty, etc. In return when they graduate they put in same amount of time school took working at a hospital for minimal pay (survivable but minimal). Would that not help to get closer to affordable healthcare plus get more people into healthcare.

Too many variables on this one, cost of living based on state/region/city, cost of gas for going to work, inflation rates etc..

If they pro-rated evertying based on expense reports and such you would need to file and prove, why the fuck not do this? It could work if it was done right.. 8 years of school, 8 years of working getting by.. That would put you on the same income level as your profits after paying the student loan cost in the first place once they start racking up interest..

It would be a plausible alternative to loans.. but you would have to calculate inflation and all those other factors per year or per 6 months in some areas.

They sort of already do this with interns and shit. ER's are already full of people just out of medical school.

It also does not have to be equal time either, just reasonable.

It's probably been said by now but did any of the idiots 'against' this actually read the details? $10+ an hour for a college student sounds like pretty good pay to me - places they usually end up in pay FAR less. And hey - don't want the $4k... then don't do it.

Even the middle school when you look into it, would be more a part of their lessons and probably a lot more valuable as a lesson than some stuff they do now.

this is a good concept but must be well planed and organized to be effective so most impotent is the implementation of the program.

Hey guys it's not $10 an hour, it's $40 an hour.

You get a $4000 per year tuition tax credit.

And again, even if there weren't financial incentives...you could make something like this part of the curriculum in public high school and colleges that receive any type of public funding.....and that would cover 90% of all kids in high school and college.

Teaching kids how to be good citizens is one of the missions of our public schools, this is just an extension of that.

How about the kids that dont go to college? And this is not about if its a "good idea" or not. Yes community service is a great idea until its mandated. The government has no right to make anyone work without pay.
