All those sites that I used to make a killing on you can now find the entire members areas for free on torrents and illegitimate tube sites.

The sites that sell now for me are the smaller guys who are shooting stuff outside of porn valley with girls who aren't oversaturated and are taking measures to protect their content from being put out there for free everywhere.

Then once a site has it's content under control...THEN you can put stuff out for tube sites (yes, long clips included), but you can do it under your own conditions and terms...which is exactly what I'm preparing now.

Times like these you have to focus on getting quality traffic and growing the traffic you're getting. Then it may or may not make sales, but if it doesn't it's because everyone else isn't making any sales either. Then when it picks up you'll have all that traffic that now suddenly is converting and things will pick up again.

You can't change the economy to make people buy but at least you can put yourself in a position that when the economy does change you can benefit.

The worst thing you can do is quit but I guess there is always a point where if you're not making any money you still need to eat.

The problem with threads like these is that you can't get honest answers from most people.
90% of the posters here are program owners, program reps, or sigwhores who are going to say their program (or the program that's paying them) is doing awesome....even if sales are down by 70% or something like that.

Sales are shit for sure....but I think it's the economy more than it is the tubes. Sure the tubes hurt...but if your ratios are going to shit and you're making less money on the same traffic, then it's more likely the economy.
If tubes were the problem it wouldn't affect your ratios, because those surfers aren't going to click an ad for a paysite.

Honestly, when looking at my stats some niche sponsors still do pretty well, but compared to a year ago it's still a significant change.

I don't care if a program is going up overall (no offense, but that's not my business) because of new traffic sources, new affiliates, etc. I only care for my ratios, for the perspective of a single affiliate, and more traffic and less sales simply means things are becoming worse.

Excatly. Also, a guy that was making 10 sales per month and now makes 25, will say that it's better than it ever was

On a positive note, i got my first whale ever on a cam site ! It happened a few days ago.
But don't get me wrong, cam sucks ass big time !
10 000 and 10 000's sent over the years to various cam programs and wasn't making real money. The only way is get a whale PERIOD.

I notice a lot of the places we get traffic from are WAY WAY down. Luckily for us, and our business model, we do a lot of our OWN promotion and branding. We also never set up an affiliate program, which sounds like is good.

Traffic seems to be down in referrals, but the bookmarkers, and direct traffic steady. How we MAKE the sales varies, but we are still where we need to be to hit the monthly goal. Last week was a nice membership sales on some sites, while others were tumbleweeds. Clip sales were off the hook. DVD down. But still on target for the month.

Ratios remain consistent as always. Time for some to make, or buy, content that actually converts and retains. See sig nig.

I can't predict the future. But I can tell you what I know from my looonnngggg experience in the entertainment business. And yes, I definitely consider the internet to now be a big form of entertainment and internet porn to be one of the biggest.

So I will tell you what I experienced in another "recession proof" business back in the late 1970's.

1978, 1979, 1980, and part of 1981 were pretty bad years for a lot of people in the U.S. The economy stunk, gas prices were higher than they are now if you equate 1978 dollars with 2008 dollars. Businesses were shutting down (for instance TG&Y was a big "walmart" type dept. store before walmart's were around....they closed up shop)

So anyway, unemployment was higher than it is now, gas was high (and there was gas rationing and shortages), percentage rates were through the roof (I had a bank CD that my grandparents got me that was earning 12%...that was pretty sweet)

And the news was full of the news of all this economic hardship.

Meanwhile I was on the road with my first rock band.

Business was NEVER better. Clubs were packed across the country 7 days a week and we were making top dollar as a cover band playing bars.

The old timers that ran the bars all told me that for the bar business, the worse things got for the rest of the economy the better it was for the bar business.

Now I'm not going to predict that it's gonna be the same for us. But I do believe that after the initial "freak out" period of a couple of months...we are going to see business pick up nicely.

Again, that's just my thoughts based on my experience that people crave an "escape" from their worries. Whether it be in nightclubs 30 years ago, or the internet today. They will find a way to "treat" themselves to something that makes life worth living.

When I lived in S.C. I had a lot of work done on my old home. And it was literally an "old" home. So I basically had it rebuilt over a couple of years. And the guys working on it were the usual cast of characters that do construction work in South Carolina. They didn't have much money, none of them owned a home, and a lot of them lived in rented trailers in a trailer park.

But no matter how bad things were for them...they would still show up at the local clubs I played at in my band on the weekend and they always seemed to find enough money for a bag of pot and plenty of beer.

I think it's human nature, and I think I'm gonna keep working hard and watch how this thing plays out and hope I'm right with my feeling that it's gonna work the same way for me now as it did in 1978.

I would agree the days of the American affiliate are very much in jeopardy.

But in reality, what is happening is that adult is becoming just as hard as mainstream. It always made me laugh when I saw people talking about how adult is dying and they are moving to mainstream. If you are struggling in porn, you'll die in mainstream.

Those that couldn't hack it in mainstream and found a life preserver in adult are going to drown in 2009.

But in reality, what is happening is that adult is becoming just as hard as mainstream. It always made me laugh when I saw people talking about how adult is dying and they are moving to mainstream. If you are struggling in porn, you'll die in mainstream.
