Hunting for food is okay but hunting for sport is just fucked.

You don't have to "go after" anything. Unless you live in Africa or N Korea or some other shithole place, meat is plentyful and is easily obtainable. Once again 99% of "hunters" don't actually hunt. Not by any REAL sense of the word

Being that my father is a brown bear guide in Alaska... and having grown up in that environment... i think "hunting" should be separated into two categories.

there is trophy hunting... i.e. shooting a 10' brown bear to nail its hide to your wall and "hunting" for things you intend to eat.

I personally don't care about animals, their alleged "feelings" and have no issues with shooting them and watching them die. However, i have always felt all my life that its totally retarded to spend huge dollars to fly around the world shooting animals for the sole purpose of having a story and trying to get into the record books. I'll kill something i intend to eat or or something that i know will get eaten.

I suspect that if most people grew up like i did surrounded by elephant foot stools, full mounted lions, rhinoceros heads, zebra hides, stuffed lynx, bobcats, elephant tusks, tiger skins etc etc etc etc etc... they wouldn't have such a high opinion of either hunting or hunters... or even guns for that matter.

A sane person wouldn't have to spend too much time around trophy hunters, sitting in their "trophy rooms" looking at tons of dead shit that was killed just for a good story and have to talk to a group of psychotic fucks that thinks its all great and wonderful and can't wait for the next exotic hunt before that person started thinking hunters are idiots.

I love hunting. I love getting out there. I dont get something everytime I go and that is great. At least i get out. Nothing I shoot goes to waste. If i could eat wild game all the time over farmed animals, I would. Some pics from this fall! It was a good one indeed. Also hunters put alot of money into the local economies and wildlife management.

No You=Hypocrate & Mentally Challenged

First off who made you the authority on what is and isn't a sport?? Also why is it that you anti-hunting types think hunters are here to impress you or for that matter even give a fuck what you think?? I go out with clothes and equipment to have a successful hunt plain and simple.

As far as your last comment... I would just find a path you walk frequently and hang a bag of cash from a near by tree. Then bait the site with a couple half dressed hookers, when you paused to check the bag or say hi to one of the girls guess what? I'll probably be tying your carcass to the hood of my truck! All animals have their weakness.

Oh and your sig at the end of this post was one of the funniest things I have seen in a while! LOL Thanks for the laugh..

The deer levels have to be maintained or there are too many deer hits on the road. Deer hits are the bread and butter of our local auto body shops. It's what keep them in business.

So what is the problem with hunting them? How is hunting them any different from eating animals from a farm? You seem to not have a problem with that. Plus the money paid for licenses goes directly to the Ministry of Natural Resources (around here)

In our area we have to use black powder guns. So there is some challenge to it. You can't just unload with a semi auto.

And feeding them is also illegal in our province during hunting season. If you could use a 270 with a scope and a salt block in the middle of a field, then ya, it would be pretty easy. I still know plenty of guys that end up without a deer at the end of the season.

Such a hypocrite. You're a joke if you think it's "better" or more "humane" to go buy meat from the store rather than hunt it yourself.

Or are you a "man". Do you follow your own advice? Do you strip down naked, walk to the local store. And kill the t-bone with your bare hands?

Or is it you simply take a blind eye to what really goes into producing that t-bone at the local store. Purchase it without knowing or caring. And have a sense of self-righteousness because you weren't the one with your finger on the trigger.

Idiot.

Good God, GatorB, you've done it again...you've managed to suck all of the stupid out of the room...way to go, genius...

As someone who grew up as a hunter, an ethical hunter at that, I can say that most "animal rights" people and such are uneducated about animals at best. At it's core, hunting isn't about sport or impressing a couple internet jerkoffs, it's about putting food on your fucking table. You can go to the store and buy a nice steak that came from a cow that was knocked in the head or you can go out and hunt something down. Either way, an animal dies so it can be put on your table.

I think caged hunts are bullshit, but ultimately, if the meat is going to feed a family, then so what. There are some ethics in hunting and stop believing the stupid hillbilly stereotype of the guy sitting in a tree...sure, it happens, but those guys just don't have the grapes to track down an animal and actually "hunt".

I remember tracking deer, antelope, moose, elk, etc. sometimes for days...closing in and ultimately putting food on the table. This past September, I went antelope hunting with a bow and arrow. Sure, there's a rush associated with it and it had a nice set of antlers, but at the end of the day, you can't even make decent soup from fucking antlers. That antelope was sure tasty though. It became tasty sausage, antelope steaks and even managed to end up in a tasty antelope stew.

Ethical hunters are actually ecologists and constantly take care of mother nature. Sure, there are a few fuckfaces. Ultimately, a vast majority of hunters take care of nature. Hunting helps control animal populations. have any of you animal rights people ever seen a bunch of antelope or der starve to death from overpopulation? It's not a pretty site. Most ethical hunters will continue to track down a gut shot animal. One year, I even tagged a deer that was 90% wasted meat. Someone had gutshot it and either didn't know or care enough to track it down. When buying a hunting licenses, duck stamps, etc. that money is also used to help out with hunting areas, game farms and more.

Painting all or most hunters as sociopaths is an extreme liberal prejudice. Psycho hunters exist, maybe even in a higher ratio than the non-hunting population. I agree with pleasurepays - people that hunt for trophy rather than meat are questionable. But maybe it's better they take their pathology out on wild game by legal means rather than on people, since they need an outlet.

Is it inhumane to catch fish when I can go to the market and buy fish? They die by suffocation both ways. One shouldn't go fishing because fish don't have human intelligence and fall for a worm on a hook?

Some people don't mind getting their hands dirty, others want to eat meat but pretend to take the high moral ground because they let somebody do the killing for them. Thanks to the internet, I've seen what it's like in slaughterhouses and it's many times worse than the pictures of a couple dead deer I've seen.

Cripes, if people didn't hunt deer and moose once in a while our cars would be slamming into them left and right on the highway in no time.

Quit knocking hunting, if society ever has a major catastrphic collapse you'll ALL be hunting for food eventually. That is assuming you survive.

Seriously - people think its OHH so cure when little 12 year old Tommy can sit still for a hour FISHING

But he sits still for 4 hours with a 15 pound high-power rifle while covered in deerpiss, for a chance to take down a Animal - then he is a murderer?...

FACT - animals eat plants - plants help the environment. We need to shoot more animals to save the planet. Al Gore told me that

Dressing up in camouflage, getting out of the house, building bonds, learning to survive by one's own means/skill, learning about what is actually sacrificed when meat is put on your table by observing it firsthand, being physically active, being rewarded with tasty meat is no more absurd than grown men playing video games which millions do every day.

How about this. Next time you want to "survive by one's own means/skill, learning about what is actually sacrificed" Instead of going hunting, you take your cloth off, wrap yourself in a sheet, put a big Tupperware bowl on your head and run down the river to get some water - BARE FEET. Run on the highway and pretend the cars are wild animals.

Then you will appreciate running water

There is a difference in killing and eating an animal for basic survival and killing an animal for an emotional high. When people are holding up the antelers of a deer they shot and taking pictures to send out to their friends, that's hunting for emotions. That's hunting to try and feel powerful over another species. Of course they will eat it, but that's not the reason they went out hunting.

Can't people take a picture AND eat the animal for survival both?

My brother in law would argue with you, he does it all the time. (and rarely sends me any deer meat, which I love... but I'm no hunter)

man everyone has thought way too far into this.

hunting is about spending time with family and friends. if anything it teaches you how lucky you are to be able to hit up a grocery store and get fresh meat without having to do any of the work.

have you ever tried to clean an animal? you gotta gut it, skin it, quarter it, and cut out all the meat off the bones and shit, then bag it and freeze it. it's really a full days worth of work.

truth be told i love going hunting for the fact that i get to see my friends and family that i don't normally get to see throughout the entire year. killing a deer is just a bonus because then i get to have some tasty meat to eat for a little while.

just because you associate bambi with deer doesn't mean it's bad to hunt animals. it just means you suck and i dont.

Sure, I'm not saying it's bad either. I'm just saying that the reason that it's solely for food is kind of silly. People are hunting because they enjoy the thrill of taking an animal's life. We don't see people coming home from the grocery store, taking snapshots of themselves holding up a cornish hen and then sending it off as their Christmas card.

C'mon this is crazy haha.

You guys are acting like Christians do to non-believers. They're constantly up in peoples' business. I don't believe in God, so I don't care to hear some Christian preaching about how bad a person I am and that I'm going to Hell because I don't believe in the Holy Spirit.

Let's say all hunters are redneck neandrethals. After having sex with his sister, Skeeter wants to shoot some deer because he likes the taste, the hunt, and prefers to kill than going to the market to buy meat (an portion of an animal killed by somebody else). What does it matter to you what Skeeter does? Go for it Skeeter, just do it legally, and stay off the hell off my property.

it's amazing how people genuinely believe the stereotypes that go along with hunting. especially when they've never actually hunted, slept in a tent in the woods, or even shot a gun in their life. fucking comedy if you ask me.

Who's to say what the hunter feels unless one knows him/her personally. Most times when I see somebody posting pictures of fish they caught, I don't think it's because they want to show domination over other species. They're just proud of their catch and want to record it and the memories that go with it. As somebody who has fished, I understand this. The fish is the reward for patience, luck, skill. The hunter posting pictures with his catch is probably much like the fisherman with his pics. Nothing more, nothing less.

All I know is that one day back in the early 90's when a cousin of mine opened his freezer full of packets of butchered moose to me and said "Take what you want" I was in heaven, and ate like a king for months whenever I cooked it.

I'm too lazy to go tramping through the woods, I need more hunters in my sphere of influence, not less.

GENEROUS ones.

It's all "Farmed Animals" - acres upon acres of these animals breed and kept under HORRIBLE living conditions until they're slaughtered and mass produced into meat piles for your pleasure.

So. Unless you're a vegan - STFU
that is a good point

It's the same thing. The fish/deer is your trophy. No different than holding a trophy for a basketball tournament or bringing a hot girl with you to a high school reunion. It's still being done to satisfy an urge to feel better about one's self. The difference being that hunting is at the expense of an animal's life. Like I said, there is nothing wrong with it, it's human nature. I just don't buy the whole "it's just for comraderie or food" description.

You should try Venison jerky. Best stuff on Earth. I went to college in Minnesota and had 3 roommates who hunted and packed the freezer full of every type of deer meat imagineable.

I've been a vegetarian since I was 16 so I got it pretty much figured out. But there is always one guy who tries to trip you you up by naming several things that contain animal products. I always wonder why they think they have put more thought into this in the past 30 seconds than I have for half my life.

people go on deluded for their entire live's sometimes! honestly though, you've probably put more thought into it than anyone else in these threads, so i can somewhat respect that.

the thing i don't understand is this. Why is it wrong for a meat eater to question a vegetarian, yet it is perfectly acceptable for a vegetarian to rant on endlessly about their cause and how much better they are for it? and call everyone else a murderer?

it doesn't make sense. they can call me a crude inhumane killer, they just need to stop getting so worked up when i call them a bitch or a faget. k, deal? that;s what i thought, fagets!

i don't give a shit either way. I eat meat and wear animals. Have never hunted but I would try it. I've fished and that's fun. I think its the gloating and the bragging pics and trophy-ing that bothers people though. There's a rule about not doing that kind of thing after scoring a touchdown in football. They banned it because it was determined to be disrespectful and unsportsmanlike and diminishing to the integrity of the game. Not that I'm for banning anything. Just pointing shit out.

I live in Michigan and if Big Ten country didn't have hunting; everyone nationwide would need to add about $2000 more dollars a year to their auto insurance. Someone needs to pay for the collisions. I personally think hunters should get together and quit hunting for a couple seasons, just to watch all the animal right activists taking down their no hunting signs and begging them to hunt again. I bet they would buy the carrots too!
