Do you like scriptlance, rentacoder, etc?
I'm thinking about using scriptlance's service to look for a full time employee from Asia. Anyone know of a better place? I mean better place as in more people are legit. I'm not looking for a super skilled .Net developer or anything of the sort.
Thanks

RentACoder seemed to have more English speaking professionals, GAF is an Indian playground but I've never used Scriptlance

It's so hard to find good people. Most who are of any value are already hired.

Depends on what you need. For complicated stuff I have had better luck on RAC and Guru. Elance is good for simpler stuff. Never used Scriptlance. Not to sound racist, but be weary of Indian bidders. In my experience many will say ANYTHING to get the job. In these cases check their reviews and project history thoroughly.

For scriptlance, the secret is in selecting people that have done similar jobs before and are highly rated. Not all ratings are the same. Check the job amounts for each rated job. It must be similar to your project--if not, avoid the person because it won't be a valid comparison.
To increase the number of bidders, select the Featured bid function. It costs a few bucks extra but is worth it. Scriptlance is great for coders and network staff. |

Any decent programmer that hangs out on these places gets offered a full time job in no time.
It works more or less like this: Scenario 1: 1. programmer completes a job, work is done well, on time, etc 2. "Hey, you did a good job, we have ton of other projects, wanna work for us full time?" 3. "Alright, when do I start?" Scenario 2: 1. programmer completes a job, work is shitty, full of bugs, 3 months late 2. "Wtf man? you fucked us good here.. I'm going to leave a negative rating on your account..." 3. "lol, you do that, and I'm cutting off any support, you will then pay an arm and a leg to have some other coder fix the shitty job I did" 4. "fuck me, this asshole has me by the balls" [positive rating left]

i've had to go through about 8 foreign outsourcers, i got a filipino guy going now and he's working out great. outsourcing is hit or miss, if you get a good guy pay him a little more and he will love you. give the guy an extra $2/day and he will worship the ground you walk on, and you'll have an employee you can rely on. just don't ever let them get lazy. be stern with them. i talk to my guy once a day and every thing comes back just fine for about $40-50 a week. i don't even have to babysit him he wants to keep this job so bad. just start taking them on and trying them out until you find someone reliable. fire up a project that isn't going to be a big rush, then run a bunch of new foreign workers through it. take guys from anywhere, your odds of hitting a good one or a bad one are fairly evenly matched in my opinion. i found my guy on digital point of all places. i made a camtasia video of the process and written instruction on their tasks. most will show just how reliable they are with a day or two. make it clear that if they do not deliver, they will not got paid. a lot will start dicking you around right away, just tell them they're done and don't pay according to the circumstance. i've had a few of them last maybe a day, before i give up and send them on their way. anywhere you go is going to be the same deal, just start trying guys out, and don't play with them. if one doesn't deliver immediately send him on his way and get to the next. it took me about a month to find a good guy, and now he's training his sister to work for me too. the key is finding someone who follow instructions well. ![]() |
