I feel ya. I can't stand what they call "Michigan basements" which is little more than some muddy hole. But since this is a bi-level. You get that nice half and half finished area. Well... in my case anyways.

just curious, would you rather setup an office in your own home or rent a place outside ? wouldn't a home office be more distracting? but i geuss it boils down to working styles.

One thing about this house when I bought it was, it looked like 12 half assed finished Tim the tool man projects. One room plugs were brown, next off white, then white. Some phone jacks square, others round, and so on. Basically, as I go room to room, I am making all the crown, base, plugs, etc all UNIFORM. Plus adding in recess lighting in every room, louvered doors, and so on.

Best guess, hopefully, should have everything done by year's end. Then will consider new appraisal and an equity line. Will have put in about $25,000.00 by then I would guess between all this shit I am doing now, and the new roof, and fencing in the back yard with privacy wood fence instead of chainlink.

I am surrounded by dogs. I have the two kittens. I do not need dogs barking at me, or them, 24/7 all summer.

Nah. I like working from home office. I am very disciplined in that regard.

However, I know what you mean. Some people can not work from home. They need that whole separation thing to click in their mind and do the work.

HAHAHAHA!!

I think that CRT is like 8-9 years old maybe? I wanted that 2nd office to be set up with at least two computers. But I ran out of monitors.

I have the other two flat screens in my main office, along with the laptop.

My main office (4th BR) is on the basement level, around the corner from the media room area.

[

Here is my jdavis computer. I managed to get it unpacked, but I have not hooked it up.

Here is a captain's view of my main set up and flat screens, with laptop, and DVD player.

Side view. That equipment on the wall is my T1 (data circuit). I have cable internet on my main machine, but also a back up connection so I am never out of business. Unless I have no power that is.

Other side view, complete with another shot of jdavis computer.

Well that is not going to be a desk for ME, but I completely agree. I prefer to have a view out the window. Although you can 'kinda' see out of it. The sky anyways.

That is mainly going to be used for my girls to do their cam, and chat stuff. Or a workstation to work on some other tasks. They, and I, can make some more money. I can also use it when I do not want to walk all the way down stairs, or a hot spot for laptop whatever.

I also wanna run streaming radio station from there. But... might end up putting downstairs in my main office. I have a lot of wasted space you do not see. I could put a large 2nd desk in there, and run from there.

Thanks for kudos.

Yep. I completely agree man.

It is kind of exciting when you finally fucking complete a room, or part of the house. I still have more stuff we are working on, and the supplies are out there in the garage. But it's a slow process.

I will end up doing the upstairs BATH, and kitchen last because of the cost. However, since I do shoots at my house, a lot of this remodeling shit will be put to good use, and that recess lighting make a nice difference when I am doing shoots. So I will be excited when we get the other two BR done, and living room.

Before I can get recess in the basement/media room. We have to change out the electrical box. It is maxed out. Also need to replace the water heater. Furnace seems to be fine, and will not know on central air until summer. We can't get the insulation up in the attic until we finish recess lighting upstairs. So hopefully in the next few weeks we can get that shit done. Then I can recarpet living room, and then re-do all the hardwoods. Then almost everything will be done upstairs. Other than kitchen, and BATH.

Nope. I did not lay it. I had someone else do it. I am not a manual labor kinda guy.

I had the kitchen, and entry way/landing done with same tile. The landing is half done. Still needs paint, trim (as well as closet), finished recess lighting, hard wire fire alarm. It has the louver doors for that landing closet, but I still need to replace the door between the garage for something better security, as well for Michigan winters.

That is some nice tile. I am going to end up going with a granite counter top, a bit lighter and almost like this...
http://www.marbledepotinc.com/images...countertop.jpg

I am not sure what kinda tile for the back splash yet. I still have to remove the cubby above the kitchen cabinets, and put in a ... name escapes me... but basically it is a over hang, framed in, with recess lighting in there.

This kitchen is WAY too dark, but it is kinda what I am talking about with that boxed in thing above the cabinets, and recess lighting.

A granite Island area with the sink in it is a good way to do it and depending on the house its a good set up to have the island actually facing the living room It makes it so you can watch TV while washing dishes:/

I figure the granite will be a nice touch. Maybe a shade over board. But since I am putting all these other upgrades in the house. Figured it would be worth the investment.

Unfortunately, because of the configuration, I do not think I would be able to pull that off. Where the kitchen table would go is over by the living room. As for the dishes washing, that is what the dishwasher is for, or a woman.

You can't see it in picture, but there is a dishwasher across from the fridge. Plus I have a garbage disposal. So keeps all that filth to a minimum.

I am not planning to live here more than 4 years if everything works as planned, should be on west coast at least part time if all goes well. However, my sister may end up living in it once I am done. Or I will use it as a house for shoots. It will definitely be one of the nicest houses in my neighborhood, if not THEE nicest once all is completed... roof, windows, and such outside as well as all this work on the inside.

Once reappraised, it should be a nice little $60-70k+ plus equity line easily. Even with the current market conditions, and considering what houses in this neighborhood (similar bi-level's) go for.

Looking good. Try painting those doors maybe switch out a few with doors that have windows. Cheap way to lighten up the feel.

Congrats on the new work space

It's nice to have things the way you want them which frees you up for better productivity.
I work at home as well and turned my upstairs bedroom into the office. Downstairs feels like home and upstairs feels like work so I get that little bit of seperation that was mentioned.

Living in Florida we don't have basements and I always get jealous when I hear about how people get to turn their basements into an office or home theater. The cosest we have is a " bonus room " which is usually over the garage and on a upscale home.

One thing I noticed was the unpainted louvered closet doors. It reminded me of the time I replaced all the closet doors in my parents house and then painted them with brush. It took forever

bought my house in July... still nowhere close to being done.

A buddy of mine bought his house 20 years ago, and he says he just got it the way he wants it.

Congrats on the new pad! Those cabinets, though... ugh! Gotta go!

Since leaving my parent's house I've never had a basement. I've lived mostly in Arizona and California, and only really old houses have basements. Being as I've always lived in a brand new home, no basement. Don't really miss them either.

Good for you, Toots. I have the same exact Frigidaire brand refrigerator and stove in the kitchen in the house I live in. My landlady is willing to sell the house to me, but in a way I am happy to still be a renter, especially with the house prices and the state of the market here in South FL. This way I have no property taxes and if anything goes wrong with the house I don't have to worry about anything. For example, the city I live in made the eighty-something year old landlady and everyone else on the street pay over $2500 each just to add some plumbing in their yards for new water meters that met the city code. I am going to be looking for a house with more property and maybe a pool this summer. Of course, your money goes a lot further in suburban Michigan than it does here in South FL!

Yep. You definitely have trade offs from rental to house. That is for sure. Luckily, I found a dude who is just happy to work. So he just keeps plugging away on projects.

I know what you mean on that abatement shit. Or whatever it's called. When I was looking at houses, I made sure not to really consider those one main streets, some under construction, and shit. Those new roads, water lines, and shit really jack up your taxes on top of the rest.

Amen to that shit.

Nothing beats rolling out of bed, grab some caffeine, and off to work in your undies.

Already have the blinds. They are just not up yet. Was happy to finally get that other major shit done. Should have em up this weekend.

I can only imagine the fun the neighbors could have watching since their driveway and main door is outside that window.

They are not going to be painted. They will either get a clear coat, or a 'natural' stain once the hardwoods are redone.

This house has a lot of wood in it. I am switching out the closet doors, shelving in the closets, hardwoods, framing to a 'natural' stained wood as we get things done. The hardwoods are oak, and the doors pine. So once the floors are done. We'll see what we have to do to those louver doors.

Thanks mang.

It's hard sometimes. Picking colors. Trying to imagine in your head what rooms and colors will look like. I was not happy with 2nd office/3rd BR until it was all done. Crown, trim and everything.

Same for 2nd BR upstairs. It is a nice shade of green. The girlies like it. But until the doors are on, trim, crown, uniform utility plates, etc. The jury is still out.

Materials in these projects are not what kills you. It is labor!

The 3rd (of 4) BR now done (4th is downstairs office). This one will be for cams, shoots, and guest BR. Sorry for bad color. Camera phone is shit.

A better shot of the color(s)

Replaced the wood shelving. Added in closet light.

Added crown molding. Recess lighting.

Added new trim. Louver closet doors. New blinds. Matching (new) white face plates for electric, cable, phone.
