We offer Wowza to our clients at a cost of $50 monthly. Although Lighthttpd and NGNIX are excellent for some applications, Wowza does have some distinct advantages. In scale there is bandwidth savings because unlike the open source alternatives, Wowza allows for a true fast forward versus the other which allows a fast forward but continues to download the whole file in the background. Additionally, there are some linking and security options that Wowza brings to the table.
If you would like to discuss this fruther, please send me an email or perhaps we can catch each other on ICQ or the phone during the business week. All the best Brad

We moved our VOD platform to work on Wowza. Its better then the free servers out their but at the same time cost less money then the FMS. With version 1.7 their performance has improved a lot.
We use Wowza for FlV, MPEG2, MP4 and Windows Media Server for WMV. Both works on the same box and shares the same data base so we end up supporting same functions on both systems. Jay |

Used it briefly in testing and then abandoned. Seems like a good product though.

Feel free to contact me about a server that will best suit your needs with Wowza media installation for the best combination of price, performance and security! Just send over an email to either [email protected] or [email protected]. ICQ is good as well!

all three viable alternatives are listed in this thread, nginx, lighttpd and wowza.
Wolfy, yes this would be an alternative. |

Never heard of lighttpd being used as a flash streaming server.
How is that done? ![]()
