Spankbuxx.com blows away 10 years of affiliate links - GoFuckYourself.com

Hey, this is a heads up for anybody who has ever promoted a Spankbuxx.com site. After a year of struggling (and in some cases, failing) to pay affiliates (see this thread), Spankbuxx.com has announced in an email to affiliates that it will no longer track or pay for sales from any of the links affiliates have installed since Spankbuxx.com went online (with its first site, Spanking Online) in 1999. (To be fair, Spankbuxx.com moved to NATS in June of 2005, blowing off old links at that time, so the current change only blows off 4 year's worth of links unless you updated older links at that time. Picture me, wearily raising my hand.)

If you have ever promoted any of the following sites and still have links up, you need to change or remove them:

SpankingOnline.com
FetishFlixx.com
GirlsBottom.com
SlutSpanking.com
SpankingDigital.com
SpankingMags.com
SpankingImages.com
SpankMyBottom.com
HDSpank.com
SpankPass.com

In case you did not get the email that came out today, Spankbuxx is moving back to CCbill. The old links are still turned on and making sales, but now they are making them for Spankbuxx.com and not for you.

We are using CCBtools Which Will Allow You To Use New Hosted Galleries & A Range Of Other Tools That We Are Currently Adding Into the New System.

PAYMENT QUESTIONS :

All sales generated as from this point on through CCbill will be paid directly by CCbill. This means that as from now any New sales you generate will be paid from CCBILL. You must though Re - Join our program and change ALL linking codes if you wish to continue promoting our program.

In order to continue to earning revenue through Spankbuxx you need to Re-Join our program ( Link Here ) As stated CCBill will be the company paying all affiliates for all new revenue generated through CCBill. Our new system already has a FHGS and Banners added and we plan on rolling out all tools that come available to users for CCBtools.

Yeah, well, I've been pulling back sharply on traffic since they started having trouble keeping up on payments, but they have some quality content and a very well-established brand, so I was reluctant to pull old links and content. It's also just a huge job of work.

I expect they've pretty much lost all their high-value affiliates by now anyway, so I guess they figure it's time to harvest a bunch of ancient residual affiliate traffic and not pay for it.

Going to CCbill is probably a smart move to try and restore lost affiliate confidence, although as we all know, a company without a commitment to protect old links can have a field day even inside CCBill by constantly changing up the promotional tools.

The only legitimate reason I can see for them to stop honoring old NATS links would be if they had lost their billing. But, if they had lost their billing, would they still be promising to pay old rebills? (Well, they might -- promises are cheap -- but you know what I mean.)

They could start by paying me...they said they would be happy to send wires for amounts under $500 but every time I try to contact somebody about it (icq and email) I get no response.

I have hundreds of links up to them on blogs. CCbill does indeed make me happier but it pisses me off not to get the money I am owed on top of having to now change links.

Yeah. I did manage to get paid -- as of February 16, although they are now a couple of payment periods behind with me, again -- but it was an enormous effort. Not a word of disagreement here. I tried to be as neutral as possible in my first post on this thread, to make it a useful warning rather than a rant. But, as you can imagine, I'm not very happy.

What pisses me off most is that the CEO and head honcho at Spankbuxx, who I know only as Dino, promised me personally and repeatedly that the problems were behind them and that starting January 1 they would be paying all affiliates every two weeks promptly and without fail. It pisses me off most of all that we're still hearing "we'll be in touch at some unspecified future time, not to pay you but to give you yet another promise about when you might be paid at some other unspecified future time." Really, how dumb do they think we are?

Which is all so much more sad because they have excellent content and tours for the market. Not many other spanking sponsors appear to 'get' the market as they do. Of course now I pretty much have to signup again and try to switch out my links so they don't get my sales and give me nothing.

Well hunker down and change your links.... might as well spend the week making sure everything has been changed over. On another note, this might be a good idea to cloak your links to sponsors so if this thing happens again, you only need to change one link instead of hundreds or thousands

Yup and yup. I've been telling Dino on and off for several years that I could quintuple my sales volume with him if he could fix his payment and trust issues, but he just keeps making them worse with moves like this. It's really a pity because the sites themselves always sold well.

I was slow to get into this technology, though I am finally using it now in certain cases, and it can be a life-saver sometimes.

Unfortunately, it's unsatisfactory when we're talking about links to hosted galleries; when you've got a blog post with a picture and a bit of "follow this link to see more of this shoot" sales copy, where are you supposed to point that link when the sponsor stops crediting you for sales on that old gallery? Eventually there will be new CCbill galleries, but probably not the right ones using the same now-ancient content; so either you pull the link entirely and rewrite the sales copy, or you end up with misleading links that don't go where you say they go -- a practice I try to avoid.

There are no good solutions when a sponsor screws you like this. It's years of creative effort, just fucked.

Obviously this is not the first time this has happened to me, nor will it be the last. But that doesn't keep me from getting weary and disgusted when a sponsor does it for no good reason.

After a long day pulling dead (financially dead to affiliates, that is; they still work just peachy for SpankBuxx

) gallery links and putting cloaked links (thanks for the suggestion/reminder, Sharphead) into ancient blog posts, I realized I left at least one site off that list quoted above. In addition to those, you'll need to remove any links you've ever made to:

NaughtyBottom.com

It was a pay-per-movie site they implemented in NATS; the old NATS codes (which were different for every movie) are now redirecting to SpankMyBottom.com and of course affiliates aren't being paid for that traffic. There's no CCBill code for these movies in their new CCBill interface, so you can't upgrade these links if you wanted to.

Back to the salt mines...

Yeah, as the linked thread from the start of this post makes clear, they seem to have got into a death spiral where they spent or otherwise lost the cash that belonged to their affiliates, and so they've spent a year kiting payments, greasing the squeakiest wheels, and using the "we've initiated a wire transfer into Epassporte, you should have your money next week" excuse so often it feels like they have it on a macro hotkey. Back in December Dino put a lot of effort into calming me down and explaining how he was depositing huge amounts of his own money into the business, putting Paul Spears on a leash (Dino used the phrase "better supervision" if I remember properly) and otherwise blowing copious amounts of smoke up my ass. Unfortunately, it doesn't look like any of that was real.

When you need "payment plans" for affiliates you only owe a few hundred dollars to, it's getting pretty sad.
