Former Astronaut Certain We Are Not Alone

Earth Day may fall later this week, but as far as former NASA astronaut Edgar Mitchell and other UFO enthusiasts are concerned, the real story is happening elsewhere.

Mitchell, who was part of the 1971 Apollo 14 moon mission, asserted Monday that extraterrestrial life exists, and that the truth is being concealed by the U.S. and other governments.

He delivered his remarks during an appearance at the National Press Club following the conclusion of the fifth annual X-Conference, a meeting of UFO activists and researchers studying the possibility of alien life forms.

Mankind has long wondered if we're "alone in the universe. [But] only in our period do we really have evidence. No, we're not alone," Mitchell said.

"Our destiny, in my opinion, and we might as well get started with it, is [to] become a part of the planetary community. ... We should be ready to reach out beyond our planet and beyond our solar system to find out what is really going on out there."

Mitchell grew up in Roswell, New Mexico, which some UFO believers maintain was the site of a UFO crash in 1947. He said residents of his hometown "had been hushed and told not to talk about their experience by military authorities." They had been warned of "dire consequences" if they did so.

But, he claimed, they "didn't want to go to the grave with their story. They wanted to tell somebody reliable. And being a local boy and having been to the moon, they considered me reliable enough to whisper in my ear their particular story."

Roughly 10 years ago, Mitchell claimed, he was finally given an appointment at Pentagon to discuss what he had been told.

An unnamed admiral working for the Joint Chiefs of Staff promised to uncover the truth behind the Roswell story, Mitchell said. The stories of a UFO crash "were confirmed," but the admiral was then denied access when he "tried to get into the inner workings of that process."

The same admiral, Mitchell claimed, now denies the story.

"I urge those who are doubtful: Read the books, read the lore, start to understand what has really been going on. Because there really is no doubt we are being visited," he said.

"The universe that we live in is much more wondrous, exciting, complex and far-reaching than we were ever able to know up to this point in time."

A NASA spokesman denied any cover-up.

"NASA does not track UFOs. NASA is not involved in any sort of cover-up about alien life on this planet or anywhere else -- period," Michael Cabbage said Monday.

Debates have continued about what happened at Roswell. The U.S. Air Force said in 1994 that wreckage recovered there in 1947 was most likely from a balloon-launched classified government project.

Stephen Bassett, head of the Paradigm Research Group (PRG), which hosted the X-Conference, said that the truth about extraterrestrial life is being suppressed because it is politically explosive.

"There is a third rail [in American politics], and that is the UFO question. It is many magnitudes more radioactive than Social Security ever dreamed to be," Bassett said.

Actually, last year the Vatican put out a press release that it is okay and not contradictory to christian faith to believe in UFO's or alien lifeforms.

I have always held the belief that alien lifeforms would be indistinguishable from a God or Gods as the people of this planet have come to worship. By their very definition and mythos they are certainly alien to us so they would be one and the same.

There was one older us government briefing document that I'm looking for about homeland security that stated:

1. Ufo's do exist.
2. The issue of ufo's and secrecy is the most important issue of the united states government, even more than the h-bomb.

It was a real government briefing document that had been verified, from 1957.

We have a very tight system of beliefs that our government/way of life starts branding into us at a very early age.. I don't think most people would admit to believing in ufo's/aliens if one slapped them in the face.. because it's so fucking bizarre to think about and try to comprehend, and really makes us feel uncomfortable about the foundation of most of our beliefs, god.

I just know there is a lot more evidence to ufo's/aliens than people would like to think.

Much more than any other paranormal issue like Ghosts or Monsters.

Edgar Mitchell is not the only astronaut who has had experiences with ufo's / aliens.

Well, I'm no expert on this subject, but I've watched a few shows on TV about it. From what I've gathered, if there is life, it wouldn't be possible for them to travel this far in a normal lifetime. However, we still don't understand much about worm holes and blackholes. So if it's possible, it would probably be through those. I'd like to believe we've been visited, but I have a hard time believing that they would have only landed in the US and we're the ones covering it up. The earth is a pretty big place. Why not land in Russia? Or France?

Now, maybe we've been visited back in ancient times, I'd believe that more since it's hard to explain their massive accomplishments.

That's my 2 cents.

Giving current time lines and depending on a few assorted logistical issues with plans around Jupiter - assuming Mars does not pay off quickly. I still would say within our generation we will discover either past or current life in our solar system.

Einstein already proved that space does have bends and variances.

Better go check your facts. They did figure out that the sky in essence spins through the night. From there very simple tools would allow them to figure out north. They are also not that damn precise, especially if you say we can not duplicate it today with current technology.

If the inflation theory holds up, which most of the leading astronomers think, the universe we can see (Around 28 billion light years wide) is only a tiny tiny tiny fraction of the real universe..

In fact, the size of a photon compared to the size of the visible universe is the size relationship the visible universe have to the whole existing universe according to the inflation theory... this is practically infinite

We align massive structures all of the time. Though we do not line them up with constellations and instead align them with what is needed for our use. Hell isnt someone planning a tunnel under the alps? If so isnt that one massive alignment issue?

And those mayans were pretty advanced with keeping time, based on the the movement of the planets, maybe they figured it out or they had some help. I'm not saying I believe aliens were here back then, I'm just saying I see more "possible proof" then in recent times.

Another theory is that there are more underwater cities buried that haven't been discovered, since the last ice age, it's been covered at the bottom of the ocean. If this is true, they're saying some of these were built over 12,000 years ago. So who knows if were were helped out by others or if man has been smarter then we give ourselves credit for. My theory is, maybe they had psychics back then that documented their visions. It's more logical to believe in psychics then aliens.

Until we see any real proof, I'm guessing we are just too far out of reach from other intelligent life.
