:stoned 1 in 8 americans has worked at a mcdonalds

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/McDonald's

According to Fast Food Nation by Eric Schlosser (2001), nearly one in eight workers in the U.S. have at some time been employed by McDonald's. (According to a news piece on Fox News this figure is one in ten). The book also states that McDonald's is the largest private operator of playgrounds in the U.S., as well as the single largest purchaser of beef, pork, potatoes, and apples. The selection of meats McDonald's uses varies with the culture of the host country

If I recall correctly, McDonald's is also the largest toy distributor in the US because of their happy meals.

I've never worked at McDonald's. However, I've worked fast food. I worked at Wienerschnitzel, which is a hot dog kind of thing on the west coast. It was my first job out of the Marines. I liked working there so much that I stayed on part time long after I got a much better job. I was making like $70k a year and still working there part time just for kicks.

In fact, that's how I met my wife. She thought she was hitting on a fast food employee, but she had no idea she was really hitting on someone who had a real job.

I worked there in high school. Some of my fondest memories from high school involved store #13. A very appropriate designation at that.

I heard once, and I don't know if it's true or not, that after the Catholic Church, McDonalds is the second largest private land owner in the World.

Only 'fast food' I can say I've done was a summer at the drag strip when I was 16. Worked the concession stand in the pits for a few Saturdays and Sundays.

Worked there for 2 years while at school, it wasn't so bad and I enjoyed it for the first year or so.

If everything came crashing down around me and I needed a job I would have no problems flipping burgers again.

Its a job and someone has to cook for webmasters.

I worked at BK for 2 years when I was a kid. I still remember those triple whoppers fresh from the broiler with a tray full of fries fresh and greasy from the fryer....
And yes, it took me over 10 years to lose the weight.....

A lot of people I knew in school worked either there or BK. BK got the 'bad' kids because McDonalds required you to carry a B grade average or get fired.

Same here. Served 10 months. It could be me romanticizing the past, but it seems like the people I worked with weren't as scummy as the kids I see working in fast food today. If the grease doesn't scare you away, the employees will.

I worked at a place called Chic Fli A in Florida. People there know the place.. Its a fast food place but they sell real chicked breast.. Good food.

Had a friend in Highschool that everyone made fun of cause he worked for McDonalds. He graduated and went from flipping burgers to assistant manager, and 1 year later to manager of 3 stores. The last time I talked with him. he was 50% partners with the owners of 21 locations. never had time for University.

When I was 17, I got hired there. Showed up for the first day. Sat for about 4 hours and watched the training videos. When the videos were done, I got up and left. Came back a couple weeks later and picked up my check.

I then realized, it's easy to get jobs at fast food places, and the first day is always some stupid training video. So, I started going around to all the ff joints I didn't want to work at to begin with, and sat in on their training videos, and did the same thing. Made like $350 from that venture.

LOL

Worked at a fast-food place from when I was 13 and 9 months old, up to 17.
I've never had a problem cleaning or washing dishes (..as long as they're not my own), so I'd sit in the corner all night, happily scrubbing, as the new guys would come in, all excited to be on service, and burn themselves out after a few weeks.

Place was great for shenanigans, too.

Yup... I worked there in high school as well back in the mid 80s. Made a whopping $3.35 / hour with a 15 cent raise per hour after my 6 month review. I lasted there just over a year before I quit and went to college. Pretty much hated it there but it was good boot camp. All but one of the managers were complete pricks and their average weight was easily over 300 lbs. Some of the older employees were pretty harsh to me so it was pretty good motivation to do something with my life and not end up like them LOL.

My fondest two memories there are:

1. after a blizzard the roof was full of snow and leaking water into the kitchen... so I was sent up there with a shovel to remove snow. Buried some cars below in the parking lot and also dropped a lot of snow on the drive thru customers. "sorry, it was an accident".

2. going back to my hometown for the first time in about 15 years I decided to visit my old haunts... one of them was the mcdonalds that I had worked at... imagine my joy when i saw the building boarded up and weeds 3 foot long in all the sidewalk cracks... I shed a tear of joy

I've been working office jobs since the day I turned 16. (1st one being a case manager where I set up community service jobs for people who did that instead of doing jail time - I didn't lie about my age but I wasn't really supposed to tell any of the clientele how old I was. I think it was pretty obvious by my shaved head, black nail polish and head full of piercings though.)

No McD's for me.

One of my good friends is a McManager. She makes very decent money and runs a tight ship. She says her best employees are always housewives because they actually want the job. High school kids these days just don't care enough about anything. So maybe the working staff has changed over the past several years?

During freshman year at college I worked there, and at Burger King, and at Taco Bell.....

It was an easy job to get and keep, and the hours were such that I could still go to my classes.

Mind you, I was sick of it after a while, but I actually know someone that stayed on there, worked their way up, was sent to the McDonalds University, and is now a regional director making $175k a year.

I have never worked in fast food. The closest I ever came was working in a bakery.
