Scared to fly..... throw some advice

I'm scared the plane will crash due to turbulence or mechanical failure.
Any advice?

That's all you'll need. One as you leave for the airport and then another right before you board and you wont even care if you do crash.

XANAX, an hour or so before. Or take a half when you think you need it, and another a bit later.

you don't need drugs. You just need to fuck a thai hooker before boarding, then stop caring if you make it or not.

Agreed.

I do not same for myself. I take it an hour before take off, and I am fine.

I am not worried about the crash. I've lived a full life. However, being cooped up like a sardine I can pass on.

its ridiculously improbable that you'd be in a crash, and even if you were in a crash its still pretty likely that you'll survive the crash

odds of dying in a crash though? astronomically huge, like winning the lottery if you buy 2 tickets huge.

Broadly speaking, the numbers are compelling. From 1983 to 2000, the National Transportation Safety Board investigated 26 major commercial accidents involving 2,739 people. A total of 1,525 survived, or 56%.

lol well people do win the lottery, and since there are so many people on the earth and so many flights some are bound to crash, but look at it this way: you can fly a plane twice a week for the next 100,000 years before you're likely to crash!

here's what i suggest.

go to this site that i found the other day... read the transcripts and listen to the flight data recorder conversations before the planes crash.

these guys are surprisingly professional as they die.

it really put me at ease

oh yeah. always survivors when a plane flies into a mountainside at 550 knots, has a collision in mid air, misses the runway etc. no big deal at all.

sounds to me like you are trying to convince yourself.

There used to be some free downloads on that site, I assume that there still are. I printed them out and read them a bunch of times.

They helped.

I heard somewhere that an extremely high percentage of those that do die in plane crashes are first time fliers. Probably just a rumor though.

I've been on flights in typhoons, where they thought they found a bomb, and where the landing gear wasn't all the way down and locked into place. You'll be ok...that's why all the fire trucks and ambulances are lining the landing runway.

No sweat......you can't change fate.

Enjoy the trip.

Focus on what awaits you there and look forward to that before you take a xanax and if it is a long flight, an ambien. I used to be afraid of flying, even though my dad was a flight attendant for years until he retired, but then I read that the the probability of a crash due to turbulence is extremely rare, as most of the accidents occurred usually at take off or landing, primarily in inclement weather.

Now it is just another form of transportation to me like an automobile or bus or rail. Just a way to get where I'm going.

Also, there are self hypnosis/self help audio cd's that you may find reassuring.

You need to do some meditation before you fly, that should clear your mind and of course help you to stop thinking on that.Don`t be afraid its perfectly safe and you need to stop thinking negative on all this

Afraid to fly?

Grow a pair and face your fears.

Eat 1/2 a xanax and relax. If you go down, it's out of your hands anyway. You're going to die sooner or later. If it really bothers you, prepare your will and estate now so if it happens, you are covered.

I wonder how many motor vehicle accidents occured in that same time frame.

Tidal, flying on a commercial airline is about 100,000 times safer than hitting the highway in your car.

(give or take)

Just don't sit near the window, and pretend you're on a really big bus. :D

I think after the Air France plane that just went down anyone would have a fright before boarding their plane. I get very panicky on planes and would never sky dive/bungee jump/etc.

Go to the Dr., pop a Xanax and doze off before your flight. It's out of your hands and you just have to let go of the control factor. It's like if you go to the Doctor after a heart attack- you have to trust and have faith in another person and just let go.

If you happen to get that "winning" lottery ticket, nothing you can do about it.

Make sure you're living your life the way you want to in the meantime....
