I use a Mac for development, Windows for Media/Games, and Linux for servers... no reason to hate they all have their strengths and weaknesses ;)

What you don't pay in $$$$. You'll pay in your time maintaining the damn thing.
so is my time and I never had an issue with a pc in over 5 years... since you so concerned about time, pc will do work twice as fast for the same money and if you know anything about pc's you can have a bulletproof system without any issues.... if you're clueless about computers then ya I can see how you might want to get a mac, but don't knock pc down because you're not familiar with hardware.... not to mention about Windows Server 2003, does mac even offer that type of OS ?

Nothing to do with it being a PC. You are probably overloading it with junk and/or its old or you have a hardware failure happening.

I am still using a PC from 2001, I just had to change the hard drive once, added ram, and also installed XP Pro on it. I got my money worth for sure. I will most likely get another dell soon, it seems they are cheap enough now that they are disposable every couple years. I also think the macs are great...but too expensive.

You're knocking me for not knowing anything about Windows but you don't know that OS X has a Server edition that interacts with Active Directory and is pretty much easier in every way to setup and manage when compared to Windows 2003?

I ran a Windows 2003 Server (Active Directory) and Exchange Enterprise Server for 4 years at a 1,500 employee company and also helped out on the client/workstation servicing side (hardware and software) when needed.

I know plenty about PC's...as soon as I left the 9 to 5 routine and the work issued laptop behind I picked up a Mac and exhaled.

I gave you my opinion. Please don't lecture me. I dropped $3,000 on a laptop knowing full well what I could have gotten on a Windows box.

Edit: I also taught an A+ Certification prep class for 2 years.

Many people here just don't understand the Mac. Its not about price, its about the total experience. The Apple Store, Genius Bar, OS X, beautiful hardware with high quality components. Stability, easy of use, etc.

The Apple Tax is nearly gone, I compared an apple to a dell and the apple was within 200 dollars. My piece of mind and time are well worth that extra. My days of fixing the registry and babysitting windows is over.

Also its worth saying that I would love to use FreeBSD or OpenSolaris or even a Linux Distro however the lack of major commercial apps are a deal breaker.

No, you're simply clueless. You're not very well knowledgeable in computer hardware.

I have not checked the latest MacPro's, however the last time I did the closest thing you could find was Intel's 5000 series. These are the Intel Server Motherboards, for Xenon procs. It's the closest off-the-shelf motherboard you can get to the Intel MoBo Apple uses.

Here is the NewEgg dir of Intel Server boards, go find the listings of the 5000 series. They're all in the 300-500 price range. You think Dell uses those mobos? Or any other "standard" PC manufacturer? Ha!

http://www.newegg.com/Product/ProductList.aspx?Submit=ENE&N=2%2050001157%2040000 302&Manufactory=1157&SubCategory=302&SpeTabStoreTy pe=1

For procs, they were Using Intel Xenon's with Harpertown Cores.
http://www.newegg.com/Product/ProductList.aspx?Submit=ENE&N=2010340727%205000115 7%201652841710&name=Harpertown

Again, you think Dell is using these procs in their machines? No, most PC manufacturers will go with a cheaper proc with the same "specs".

To the average joe, a quad core 3.0 GHz is a quad core 3.0 GHz. They don't understand the difference between the cores or the proc itself. Or that the price range on quad core 3.0 GHz Intel procs is from $300-$1,700.

If they're selling you a quad-core 3.0Ghz, that's all you're going to see, and you're going to buy the computer based on price. Not whether that is a $300 quad core 3.0 in there, or a $1,700 quad-core 3.0 in it. Some people see beyond the marketing scheme of lowest price, and want the better hardware. You get what you pay for. I've been building my own PCs now for a decade. I'd never use the shit ass hardware any of the standard PC manufacturers use. The parts I buy are the higher end top of the line stuff, which exactly the route Apple takes when building their machines.

People that complain about Apple prices are tools, and don't know shit about computer hardware. A PC with the same hardware as a mac will cost the same as a mac, there's no "theory" here, go research the shit yourself.

- Their ram is however over priced, but everyone knows that!
