SEO Misconceptions

I read a ton of posts on GFY from people who are trying to SEO a site. Most of these people are completely and totally clueless. I am shocked at the amount of bad info out there surrounding pagerank and links especially. Part of me wants to laugh but part of me feels bad for those of you who believe everything you read on GFY or even worse DP.

Unless you're making a decent living from SEO, chances are you're doing it wrong. Forget what you think you know and do some reading.

Oh, and please, if you're just regurgitating misinformation you gleaned from a "webmaster" forum, please don't give advice to anyone. Chances are you're completely wrong. If you're spewing misinformation intentionally then nevermind. Intentional misdirection is a great way to eliminate competition.

that's not true at all. not even close. that is only true for black hat type exploits.

The same webmasters and practices that were building quality seo networks and focusing long term 5 years ago, are still ranking their sites, the same as they did 5 years ago.

The only thing that drastically changed was how much those ranks earned, and some of the mediums used to create and build pages/networks.

And about getting lucky, if a guy can rank different domains, for different large keyterms, I think it would be pretty logical to say they have a clue. But yes lots of guys/gals build a great site, that becomes an authority for their niche, and rank well in google, it don't make them seo's just makes them good webmasters.

A good seo will create that authority for any term, using whichever site or domain he/she choses.

True, but what is the point of your post? If you don't have anything helpful to say, it's just empty dick-beating, right?

yup you think and I know, I have over 200 top terms in google listed in top 5 for a long fucking time and in many cases terms I like I get many different sites I run listed within top 10, some will go to pay per view sites i run like easyppv some to blogs some direct to paysites etc

I dont have time to list it all but just to shut up those who talk allot of crap here are some

spanking videos number 2
spanking movies number 4
ass licking number 3 9 and 10
ass licking movies number 2 5 and 10
ass licking videos number 4 5 7 10
anal massage number 4 5
sleeping sex number 4
femdom movies number 4

I can go on and on for each site different keywords sometimes im number 1 sometimes 3 things jump and I am about to redo many things to bring shit up to date as YES things did change

if id combine all my stuff into one site that I push id be number 1 for everything but I dont put all my eggs in one basket I learned that a long time ago

and yes shit can change today and ill loose all spots I know that too

so please people when listening to people about SEO ask them to show you what they have done, everyone knows someone who knows someone and when they show you a term they have its some shit term like "girl fuck with guy on anal" and they number 1 big fucking deal

A point? Like I need a point. You think I am here to help anyone? Honestly I am hoping to get a pissing match going between some of these people who fancy themselves SEO experts. I bet I can get someone to say more than they should. Watch.

what changes more than anything is competition for those phrases in addition to how google returns search results based on a very fluid environment. people tend to look at search results as if it should be some sort of static concept, which its not.

every link online, linking to another page has a certain value to pass to the page it links to... that value depends entirely on the value of the links pointing to that page. these are things that change by the second and ripple out to affect almost everyone who isn't fighting aggressively to put themselves in a position where they are less impacted by what others are doing. you can't say "i was number one for "hamster turd recipes" and then reason that "google must have changed something" when you slip to number 10 or 20... without taking a very hard look at the competition and what they are doing and how they beat you.

I'm not going to argue with you. Doing keyword research in the past I have seen your sites ranked well for phrases I was eyeballing. Feel free to say more than you should. I am listening.

Ah, it all becomes clear now, you're one of those who thinks business is a zero-sum game.

My experience of discussing SEO tips is that it's impossible to say too much, because the good info that works is exactly the sort of thing that you can tell people a hundred or a thousand times, and they won't take the advice, because it sounds too much like work.

How is seo not a zero sum game? obviously there is finite number of profitable keywords and only 10 people that can rank in the top 10... and obviously amount of traffic coming from search engines is fixed too... everyone is competing for the same fixed amount of traffic... which is by definition a zero sum game? what am I missing?

I think it's a pyramid where the some of the whole is bigger than the pinnacle. Long tail key phrases can be very profitable and high converting.

But I haven't hit something like... "sex" or "women"... That would certainly be a new game.

At its best (which is rarely) this forum is a place where people do business. Part of that is being moderately helpful to competitors, which, nine times out of ten, has social and business benefits that FAR outweigh the tiny competitive edge someone might be "giving away".

Original poster has declared himself to be someone who does not understand this.

Anybody who publicly worries about "giving away" too much information about SEO has revealed himself to be an idiot. It's like worrying about giving away the secret to being a good writer, or a good musician. The techniques are useless except when married with enormous effort, practice, and craftsmanship.

SEO is hit and miss and trial and error... that is the name of the game, and when you do find something that works, you keep your mouth shut and duplicate the fuck out of it and monetize it before the next Google Dance.

Ignorant boob. I think you post a lot without thinking about what you're saying. Read your posts and think about what you wrote BEFORE you press submit. It'll save you a lot of future embarrassment. That's a free tip from me to you. You'd be a fool to ignore advice from your superiors.

You ought to get a doctor to help you with that diarrhea of the mouth problem.

Unless you're making a decent living from SEO, chances are you're doing it wrong. Forget what you think you know and do some reading.
I have highlighted the problem with this post.

If this post was made to try and rub people's noses in how good you think you are, then that's one thing.
If this post was meant to be informative or helpful, then you failed miserably.

You feel bad for people who believe what they read, and your solution is for them to read more?

In turn, I have highlighted the problem with your post.

What in the world makes you think that my intention was to help anyone? Why would I do that?

At least you didn't forget to close the google pray tag. You'd have gotten all of your domains deindexed.

I quit using that. I changed - I'm now search engine agnostic

So then you just started this thread because you're an attention whore?

Funny to see you calling anyone an attention whore. Pot, meet kettle.

SEO is how I make a living and it's a good living at that. Matt Cutts wouldn't have a job if it wasn't for us.
