Make $500 per member with us, you bet! Why recurring rocks.

I was playing with my NATS admin reports, I noticed I can list members in order of what they spent over the lifetime of their membership. What came up was pretty shocking. Over the last 3 years since I started my program, there are 100's of members affiliates have sold that have spent over $500 on their memberships to date.

I thought at first maybe they signed up and forgot about the site, but looking at their activity, all of them are active members logging in weekly, some daily since they joined. That is a big confidence booster on my part and I look at these stats when the porn god frown on my and I have a bad conversion day or something.

But the point is if a program has a good members area that updates alot, and they use limited trials to convert their trial members to full with an instant upgrade link, recurring always makes more sense in the long run.

The members that have a red background have expired, so that's why the login activity is not current, but alot are still active.

So you want to make a good recurring income? Hit me up, or just signup below!

It's all about the average. How many ONLY buy the trial and don't recur into full-month?
Include those in the equation to get the numbers to compare with and you get the real per-signup earnings.
Not saying recurring isn't good. But... lot's of if's in there...

Those that lands on paysites with absolutely shitty members areas. Those paysite owners that have a slight clue will rebill and rebill and rebill. Period.

Someone signing up for a site is willing to pay, already got his card out of his pocket and he's not doing that for 3 days. He's doing that to get the content he's looking for. Any paysite owner that knows how to retain could easily pay affiliates not $50, not $100, but $200 and still make money.

I was a HUGE per-signup supporter until I started to compare on long periods. There's not even a correlation, revshare on GOOD programs (usually NOT THE BIG ONES with a few exceptions) beats per signup on ridiculous numbers, something like 8:1 or 10:1 for the same paysite and/or niche.

You're preaching to the choir. I referred to the "average".
No doubt, recurring is great.
But, there are MANY unknown factors in there.
WAY too many, to make it the only basket to put your eggs in.
Again, how many actually buy the trial but don't stay for the full month? Or, leave after the first month? How many charge back? How many demand a credit?
Not to mention, what if the program shuts down? Or stop updating? Or stop paying?
Or, lo and behold, the surfer cancels and returns again and again but you don't get creditted for the re-sells?

Ofcourse, you can have a guy recurr for years and years. And at the same time have 10,000+ who did not.

Lot's of if's in there. Lot's and lot's.

Point being: don't put all your eggs in one basket.

And,

In the last few months the biggest trend I'm seeing is rebills being declined, rather than members actually cancelling

you need to be using a gateway/processor that has "step down" rebilling where they try smaller amounts if the initial amount didn't go through, netbilling has this, and a few others do.

true, it's a pretty complex equation figuring out what works best for a program. If for example I didn't have trial memberships, my retention rate woudl be alot better, but since I do, and I use limited trials with instant upgrades, I end up being able to cash in on some of the lower quality "cheapo" traffic then would never spend more than $1 on a site, and end up converting 50 to 78% of them, which is an extra $24 to $39 the program wouldn't have had before.

Of course there are always "if's" but I've been an affiliate for 12 years, and in the long run IF you have a good site/member's area that is updated and IF you have average quality traffic, recurring is the way to go. Some traffic sources PPS is the best assuming you are ok with double cross sales, one click upgrades and all sorts of other tricks that ends up emptying the surfers wallet to give you the $30 or whatever on PPS.

I mostly promote revshare... sometimes (not often thank goodness) it's the rebills that carry me through a rough month - if I was all PPS, i'd be sunk a long time ago, PPS is way too inconsistent.
