yea I'm 41 and already a mother. When this came up the other night, I thought about if I could do it all over again from the beginning now...still thinking about that.

I feel, especially in today's society, haivng a child in your 40's is pretty acceptable. The only thing that concerns me with older mothers is the risk of down syndrome. Once you pass 50 then new issues are raised, such as can a 70 year old adequately parent an adolescent / teenager, or life expectancy - will the parent reasonably be around long enough to see the child through to adulthood.
I can see where you are coming from. But I can see a 70 year old adequately parenting in the teen years if they taught and nurtured them from birth. It comes down to the parenting from day 1 which will mold the relationship in the formative and teen years.

70 year old's may not have the physical strength but the one thing they have is wisdom and life experience in having already lived that long. And paying that forward is a strength to pay forward more than a physical strength. It's about having lived in mind and spirit, not just body. That is nurturing from more than just physically keeping up.

What about the insecurity the teen would live with knowing that its only a matter of time before their parent dies? Not to mention possible stays in hospitals, etc. Life expectancy is only 74 for women you know.

My mom had a baby a few years ago at 42, doctors told her it was a bad idea and risky and stuff... She did miscarry the year earlier, but she tried again and now I've got a healthy brother 24 years younger than me.

I think it's pretty asinine for anyone to pass judgment one way or the other. It's her life, it's her body, she can do whatever the fuck she wants.
FTR I think the baby will be much better off with a mom that's 43 than one who's 23, or 13.

The only exceptions to the "pass judgment is asinine" rule for me would be something like Octomom....where she intentionally has an assload of special needs kids that you and I have to pay for.....but even that's a slippery slope type of thing.

People have been using the word blessed like it was ketchup on fries. To be blessed is to have God move heaven and earth for you, not after you sneezed (please save your etymologies for this expression for another thread).

Can't disagree with Horny Joe on this one. They were indeed blessed. Congrats to them!
