Wordpress MU
Anyone using wpmu with domain mapping to manage multiple domains/sites? Do all the popular plugins work like Akismet, All-in-one SEO, etc...?

I'll post my experiences once I mess around with it. So far, the domain mapping works well. Instead of 20+ individual blogs, you just "update" the single installation of wordpress-mu.

I myself am intrigued by MU so looking forward to how your experiences turn out. Seems like it would make things a lot easier in terms of systematizing blog creation and their upkeep.

No, didn't need to do anything to .htaccess. Just needed to setup domain aliases with the host. I'm using the domain mapping plugin, from the main programmer of wpmu.

I am not a fan of it at all.
Once you get 1 blog with some decent traffic and not just some 'tossaway' I think you will regret the fact it runs off MU as opposed to its own fresh install, one you can tweak and fuck with and make unique. It will be hard to maintain crispness and response by running a few 'good' blogs off the same install. Now on one domain, its a different story, I love it.

I couldn't install this properly over a year ago when I first tried, but I was told it manages all your blogs!
Also I heard we are going to have no choice about using it very soon |

I tried it over a year ago and wasn't a fan. The latest version is practically the same as Wordpress 2.8.4 though in most respects. Much nicer.

Oh, don't be mean harvey. I think my question was pretty 'exact.'
Do all the popular plugins work like Akismet? All in one SEO? I'm hoping someone who replies will mention the plugins they are using that work just fine.

The domain mapping plugin looks shit hot, and is exactly what I was wondering about. I'd like to give MU a shot, but only if I can use the software across multiple domains, as opposed to just subdomains of 1.
Please let me know how this works for you! I too, am waiting to hear a bit more feedback. |

The only one that I know does not work is the google sitemap plugin. I use All in one seo, technotags, lazyblog, akismet, feedwordpress, firestats, adhesive, central ping list, maxbannerads(though they say wpmu is not supported), samsarin php widget, wp security scan, statpress and wp-stats. I don't run all those stat packages on one install, I am comparing right now to see which is kindest to cpu and memory.

docputer, thanks for that list! Did you like firestats better than wp-stats?

I do, I am using the paid version of it, which is the same as the free, except it tracks people that use your rss feeds

@docputer yes, Google XML sitemap needs some tweak to work with WPMU due to the nature of the plugin. Read these instructions to make it work with all your blogs ![]() Note: there's a simpler solution for it, but I really didn't test it, so use it at your own risk

Do they stay on top of updates to WPMU when WP updates?
I used to use it and liked it but worried a bit about security when there was a lag between the WPMU getting updated and when WP released a patch to fix whatever the latest exploit was. |

recently they have been updating often. 2.8.4 came out within a few days on both WP and WPMU
