SEO - different IP less importnat now?

It looks like interlinking sites on the same C-class and even the exact same IP is more helpful now in the Google SERPs. Does anyone else think this might have changed a smidge?


Also, do you no follow your links to FHGs? Would it be better if FHG's were noindex?

From the wiki for nofollow:

I don't even think multiple class C matter anymore. Google knows who you are no matter how many network you try to hide behind.

exactly. i am willing to be they are looking at domain registars as well. even if you have 20 domains on 20 different class C IPs, if they are all registered to you, its basically teh same as having them all on the same box.

just remember... no matter how smart you think you are, Google will always be one step ahead of you

lots of ip's and class c's matter if you are talking about backlinks. (see sig)

but, spreading your own sites over lots of ip's and then interlinking them to fool google, doesn't seem to work as well anymore.

I've never seen any kind of penalty for linking between sites on the same class c, or same IP for that matter.

According to google, it's the content that counts, among all the other criteria for ranking. If it has it's own domain, or even subdomain, and the link is relevant, it should not matter whether it's the same IP.

Think about blog hosts and shared hosting. They all come from the same IP(s), and each site can still rank seperately with it's own PR.

I would say that if you create a website and you make it's own identity; then create links in on different c-class ip's from different hosts helps..

i agree with jay. there are some linkwheeling techniques that will actually give you an NP-Complete that NO search algorithm can figure out. they have ways of identifying the things that they frown on. Bottom line is..... don't abuse anything. I play in practices that are frowned upon as seasonings to organic practices. Don't over do it and you'll be ok, IMHO.

I did it some anyway even though I was told it wouldnt be as helpful. It helped a little bit like I was told.

I dont use the same google analytics account to monitor multiple sites
I don't stay logged into google
I don't use google toolbar

to clarify: google has been a registrar for some time now and most likely has access to all the info even if you use domain privacy.

Just to clarify also, I'm not saying its good to interlink all your sites It don't matter with the IP's but thats assuming normal site building and link developing, I wouldnt link together a bunch of sites on the same range. But I wouldn't interlink a bunch of sites period. There is just better ways.
